I currently have XP professional with firewall disabled
and MSN 6.2 installed. However, whenever I try an
audio conversation through MSN I can hear the other
person talking but they can't hear me.

I have the full green signal whenever I talk into the mike
and the mike test passes me ok. I have checked all the
sound boxes on the windows sound icon and they are
all set to use.......none muted. I am on broadband using
a router and not a modem

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks

Tids

Greetings Tids,

If you or your contact are using Windows XP, you might try turning off the QoS Packet
Scheduler. To do so, click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications, Network
Connections. Right click your network/internet connection, then click Properties. Uncheck
the QoS Packet Scheduler, and try again.

Secondly, if you or your contact are using a router (assumingly with UPnP support since it
actually connects), you can clean out the UPnP port forwardings (this is Windows XP only).
To do so, click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications, Network Connections.
Right-click the "Internet Gateway" (should be under the Internet Gateway heading) and choose
Properties. Choose the Settings button, click each 'msmsgs' or 'msnmsgr' entry and then
choose 'Delete' to each one. Then close Messenger (right-click the Messenger icon, choose
Exit), then restart Messenger.

My daughter now has a similar problem.

She has windows XP home edition. Audio
test on MSN works perfectly and indicates
no problem with the mike in/out. She is not
using a router - just a normal ADSL modem.

She has no windows firewall working and
when I attempted to untick the QoS I found
it was a greyed box (ticked) which would not
allow me to untick.

Her problem is worse - she can't hear me and I can't
hear her..........yet she can see me on the web cam.

Any ideas please?

Many thanks
