    - Live Messenger 8.0 won't sign me in to Hotmail Since I upgraded to Live Messenger 8.0, sometimes it starts automatically when I start up WinXP Home and signs me in to my Hotmail account all right, but most of the time (probably about 90% of the time) it doesn't. When I start Messenger manually it still fails to sign me in, apparently tries for a couple of minutes and then gives me an error message with Error Code 81000306 and offers to "try and troubleshoot the problem" -- which is always just a complete waste of time; it green-checks the first six items (up to Proxy Server) instantly but seems to hang on Key Ports, spends several minutes trying to do something and then just fails with another error message. I can still get to my e-mail by going to Hotmail.com and signing in manually, which is somewhat less convenient. What's the problem with Live Messenger? I don't recall having this problem with previous versions, and I've been using Hotmail for several years. I have a Hotmail Plus account, if that makes any difference. Tag: HELP Tag: 85877

    - MSN Mail Unacceptably Slow I have a client who is using MSN Explorer and Mail on a dial-up from her house. When she complained to me about mind-numbingly slow operation when checking mail, the first finger of suspicion I pointed was to her dial-up status. I took the system home with me, connected it to my stable LAN, and proceeded to check her mail from the comfortable confines of my broadband Internet connection. No better. This poor woman's PC is being sent to its knees. Minutes on end of hard-drive grinding, interminable delays just to open an email. The solace for her is that this is not a product of her dial-up connection and so maybe it can actually be fixed.     - Windows live messenger seems to have caused mapped drives to disapper. A coworker upgraded to the new live messenger, he said it took away all of his mapped drives on the network. No one else in the office has the problem. He says virus/spyware is up to date. He is running XP Pro. Uninstalling allows him to map drives again but reinstalling makes them disappear. Any advice?     - How to directly connect? I am connected to Windows Live Messenger through a Westell versalink 327W router to my Verizon DSL connection. My connection status in messenger always says "You are connected to the internet through a non-UPnP IP restricted NAT. (Administrator).". What settings can I adjust to make it a direct connection? I found some settings in my router configuration under WAN for Protocol: and my choices are bridge, classical IPoA, PPPoA, and PPPoE. Also, QOS choices are CBR, UBR, VBR.     - Two Hotmail accounts I have two Hotmail accounts, am able to sign in with one laptop, and at the same time sign in with the other laptop on the other account, communicate back and forth between both laptop computers.     - MSN 7.5 (8.0) does not respond when using WEBCAM Hello, Your help is appreciated - I have spent hrs trying to solve the following problem: I have a Philips Webcam PCVC680 and it works fine in a number of programs, like dacamyo and the explorer as well. However, I have problems to get it going in MSN 7.5 (also installed 8.0 and same problem). What happens is that MSN does not respond (it just stops) when I want to do one of the following: - Start a video call - Send a webcam - Webcam settings MSN just freezes, and I can only terminate it in the task manager (in the manager it actually indicates that MSN is still running). When I use the audio and video wizard, audio installation is fine, but the video setting only shows a black screen for the camera preview (it might have something to do with it). I have WinXP installed (and windows messenger 5.1), and I should have the latest drivers for the webcam. What is going on? A solution is highly appreciated!!! Chris Tag: HELP Tag: 85839

    - MSN messenger quits right after signing in If anyone has had this happen they sure haven't revealed the problem as of yet. I downloaded I.E. 7.0 Beta Version 2. Shortly after that when I would sign onto MSN messenger it wouls close on me within 30 seconds. The problem as it turned out was that I.E. 7.0. Beta 2 had no flash player and would not let me download one. It took several days to figure out and every one from MSN tech support was stumped and kept giving me instructions on how to uninstall and reinsall the Messenger. Microsoft support told me to contact MSN as this was not their problem. As it turns out, it was. After upgrading to the 7.0 Beta 3 the problem is gone. I.E. 7.0 final version won't be released until Oct. In the mean while I was advised to watch out that any registry cleaner did not delete any thing with the name Beta 7.0 in it. I do hope that anyone else who has a problem signing in to MSN messenger finds this post and will be able to either uninstall I.E. 7.0 and go back to 6.0 or will be able to upgrade to the Beta 3 version (no matter what version of the messenger you run this will help solve signing in and staying on to the messenger.) Download the Beta 7.0 3 @ http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4c1a8fbe-fb6a-47ac-867d-bb1f17e477ee&DisplayLang=en I had problems with other applications while using the Beta 7.0 V2. The upgrade to version 3 solved all of them. I was not able to revert back to 6.0 but that was because so many files were deleted in the process of trying to fix the errors I was receiving.     - MSN Messenger auto sign-in with Norton Internet Security I'm using WLM (previously MSN Messenger 7.5) with Norton Internet Security 2005 anti-spyware edition. With the automatic sign-in option selected, MSN Messenger sign-in always fails at boot-up or login but always succeeds manually a few seconds later. I can ensure that login always succeeds by removing the "Block access to secure sites" default firewall rule. From this I deduce that MSN Messenger is trying to sign in before NIS has fully loaded, at a time when only default firewall rules are available. Because of the blocking rule above, the sign-in fails. A few seconds later, when the program rules are available, MSN Messenger is allowed the access it needs and sign-in proceeds OK.     - Video Hiccups To All Congnoscenti, Greetings! Both the previous version of MSN Messenger and the current Windows Live Messenger Vn. 8.0 have stopped showing my contacts' pictures in their Contact Cards and the list of contacts. I and my contacts have trouble seeing each other, meaning that we have to try several times until we manage to "load" each other's video. Sometimes we can't manage to establish video contact at all. The procedure that worked for us before was to first establish voice conversation then, by clicking on the button in the lower-left corner of the picture, to establish video contact. I've disabled all other active programs in the system tray using msconfig, but the problem persists, so they cannot be the cause. What could cause this problem, and what should we do about it?     - MSN messenger 8.x - do NOT install!!! After upgrading from MSN 7.x to 8.x, I notice that my PC would start to slow down -- stutters and other pauses. I'm a software engineer and have a lot of experience with tools to diagnose these types of problems. So I'm using some of my tools to figure why my PC is slowing down (it could be any number of things including hardware issues). My troubleshooting quest begins. 1. Safe mode 2. Virus check 3. Spyware check 4. check disk, defrag 5. task monitor 6. Dr. Watson all turns up nothing to indicate a problem. So by chance, I happened to be using pcAnywhere 11.0 to connect to a remote PC (I do this a lot either with pcAnywhere or via RDP to client PC's or servers) ... after I terminate my connection I notice the problem again...very sluggish interface response, even task manager takes 30 seconds to come up. So I load up Active Ports to see if there is some activity happening that shouldn't be -- BINGO!! I find msnmsgr.exe (this is MSN Messenger Live 8.0) has connect to my remote PC that I just connected to via pcAnywhere (even though I've terminated the pcAnywhere session/program). In fact, I find msnmsger.exe is using ports local ports 443, 1711 thru 1756 and has established a connection to 4 different IP's (204.2.128.175 -- 204.2.128.174 -- 207.46.0.107 -- 65.54.195.185) in addition to my remote IP. So I terminate msnmsgr.exe and viola, my PC suddenly becomes responsive again and no slow/sluggish behavior. So I setup the same test, but this time I do and RDP connection to a remote server and BINGO! MSN Messenger 8.0 has established an active connection to that machine even AFTER I terminate the RDP session and the same symptoms again -- my PC becomes sluggish. I don't know about you folks, but I find this UNACCEPTABLE and I highly recommend that anyone and everyone remove MSN Messenger 8.0 if you do any remote connections or if you are concerned (like I am) about connecting to 4 servers and using up so many local ports.     - Odd auto message Hi all I'm using Messenger 7.5 with Plus 3.62 on a WinXP box. I was recently chatting and (I think) miskeyed something, which sent a message saying that I had "slapped someone with a wet smelly tuna". At any rate, the message appeared from somewhere, with my name attached to it. Is this a little Easter egg that I stumbled across, and now can't find again, or is it a legitimate macro facility that doesn't seem to be documented anywhere?     - Microsofts position on 81000314 Just spoken to about a dozen of my mates, who all say they cant log into msn for the past 2 days. I wonder how long it will be before an official Microsoft rep from msn/messenger decides to show us loyal clients the courtesy of telling us exactly whats going on, and when it will be fixed.     - Good 'ol 81000314 Going on the concept that the squeaky wheel gets the oil - I wanted to post my distaste at Microsoft's 'attitude' at this apparently widespread problem where nearly everyone is having trouble getting their contact lists. I can only assume that it has something to do with the migration of the new Windows Live Messenger, and its new features; although i have no idea. Firstly, the error message is ambiguously written as not to infer that there is anything wrong, when in fact there is. Moreso, it offers you a 'connection test wizard' inferring that its your problem, not Microsoft who are making this service difficult. Secondly, I am sure the term "temporarily" does not cover over 48hrs (that i have not been able to sign into the service for). This is obviously a large and widespread problem. Why wont Microsoft do their avid followers the courtesy of actually letting us know whats happening, as opposed to ambiguous error messages, iferring that its our system thats at fault, or relying on people like dear Jonathan Kay (who, for the record, I appreciate that he comments in nearly every thread pertaining to this error) who simply cut and paste the same rhetoric. I mean, you go to the status page, and it says all is fine, when we all know its not. Is this for the peace of mind of their advertisers? I bet it is! Thirdly, MSN support email is a joke. They NEVER reply, and obviously dont care. Why not remove the glimmer of hope you offer us when your product fails. Fourthly, I wonder how MSN's advertisers are feeling about the way theyre treating their clients? I bet theyre still being charged media time during this "downtime".     - Problem Updating MSN Messenger Trying to help out another person here with an MSN Messenger problem. She's trying to update MSN Messenger on an older computer. During the installation process, she gets an error saying 'extracting file failed due to low memory for swapping files, or corrupted Cabinet file'. Apparenlty Messenger won't even let her login now. I did a little research in the Knowledge Base, and found some info re. paging file. She checked the size, and it's at 384MB. She's got lots of free space on her hard drive. She's using XP.     - Serious connection problems with WLM8 Hello everyone. I'm having serious connectivity problems with WLM8. Ever since it has been installed I have not been able to use functions such as video, voice or file sending. Now I know there is no problem with my firewall software (zonelabs security suite) because I have checked through my settings extensively! It's getting a little annoying now though. I've never had this sort of problem in the past. However, even if I uninstall WLM8 and reinstall MSN messenger, I'm still having the same problems. When I send webcam invites other people are not getting them.. and when I receive them from others and accept it just says "connecting" without doing a thing.     - Firewall Settings Preventing Me Logging Into WML8 Hi, I recently downloaded the latest Windows messenger, but it wonâ??t let me log in. It takes an age for the two green men to finally come to a conclusion as to whether to let me in or not, and eventually they say 'You are behind a firewall preventing you logging into messenger at this time'.     - Problem running Windows Live Messenger on Tablet PC - Handwriting Missing Hi, I am wondering is it just me. I was using a Tablet PC and Messenger 7.5, prior to upgrading it to Windows Live Messenger, and I could use the tablet to communicate with others using the hand writing. Since upgrading to WLM, I have lost the ability to use hand writing and has to resort to either keyboard or the hand writing input pad of the Tablet PC. The help topic for WLM suggested to install the Winodws Journal Reader 1.5 but the download section of this program says that it is not to be used in a Windows XP Tablet Edition, which I have got. When I read that suggestion, it does not sound sensible to me as I already the Windows Journal - the big brother of the Windows Journal Reader. Does someone have this problem? Error Code: 81000314" when i try to sign in using another live passport like "najeeb003@hotmail.com" , there is no error , and i can sign in easy, the problem is with the account *yuri@k.st*, and i tryed to sign in using MSN messenger 7.5, and windows messenger , same error with the account, can you help me please tryed the MSN messenger service status , it said "All systems are stable and running." , and the delete cache thing, even it didnt work :( i dont know whats wrong with my account i tryed to logon from WebMessenger , Windows Messenger , even from different web based messenger services like ILoveIM , eBuddy, MSN2Go , nth worked , diff error, but I couldnt sign in with my Passport ID (yuri@k.st), i went to the passport site (passport.net), and i was able to sign in using (yuri@k.st), but still No messenger Please I NEEEEED Help pleas Tag: HELP Tag: 85684

    - Live messenger flashes up on screen but will not stay open I have managed to download and install Messenger but there must be something wrong with my security settings. There is a desktop and toolbar icon but all it does when clicked is flash up momentarily then disappear. I am using a work laptop and I know Messenger is filtered at work through the server but when I use my own personal area of my laptop at home it still won't open. any ideas??     - error 81000314 please update! I have been unable to log on to MSN messenger today. I got the same result from different computers : error 81000314. Login with another account from same computers works fine. Login on hotmail.com with my msn failing account works fine too. .Net passport login is fine too.
