I am new user to MSN Messenger. I recall when I use to use ICQ there was a
history of all conversations. Does Messenger have this also?

different kind of UPnP problem
A puzzler for the experts perhaps.
I have a home network with half a dozen XP clients (all
SP1 with critical updates). These are arranged in an
Active Directory Domain environment.
I have a Netgear VPN endpoint firewall/NAT but one that
is UPnP capable and enabled. There are Windows 2003
server-based DNS and DHCP services on the network so I
don't use the DNS/DHCP in the router.
Exacly one of the client machines on the network can
successfully make two-way voice/video conference hook ups
with systems outside the local network.
All other systems are unable: symptoms are video hookup
in both directions but no audio is received at the remote
end from my machines.
I have tried explicitly deleting entries in the "internet
connection" properties; doesn't help. I've tried
installing the UPnP components that aren't installed by
default with XP (although the working system doesn't have
those it seems). I've tried disabling the QoS scheduler
(although it's not disabled on the working client).
Since I have one machine that works perfectly, I conclude
that the issue must be with the client system setup
somehow rather than the firewall/UPnP per se. What could
I possibly have set differently on the one "golden"
system that seems to work just fine?
The one system that works was at the point of needing
retirement some time ago...I've nursed it just for this
one ability but it may fail finally anytime. I could
really use help to get one or all of the other systems
working.
Any suggestions for me, please? I'm sort of at a loss :-
( Thanks in advance.
Cheers,

Questions about alerts
I am new to MSN Messenger and have a couple of questions about alerts.
I have set up various alerts on MSN Messenger. No problems with this.
To reduce screen clutter, I close the messenger window (but remain
signed-in). The questions:
1. An alert shows up as a popup. It stays for a few seconds and then
disapears. If I was not looking at the screen when it popped up, I
would never know an alert has arrived. So, is there a way to keep the
alert on screen until I dismiss it?
2. I see that alerts keep accumulating in the Alerts tab. Are they
cleared automatically? If so, how does it work? Or do I have to do it
manually? If so, how do I do that?

I get this message during discussions "The following message could not be delivered to all recipients"
Dear all,
This error message only started when I updated to version 6.1. In the middle
of a discussion to a single or group, Messenger simply doesn't deliver the
message. I then must retype the entire message, which soon becomes very
frustrating.
Thinking that there may be a conflict of the versions, I have looked to see
if I can uninstall the old version. However, I don't know if this is a
problem, and cannot find out how to do this either. Has anyone else

Messenger 6.1 no longer starts up
Weird problem has recently started. Installed MSN Messenger 6.1 last
week. Got it working with video and audio. Al of a sudden this week,
it doesn't start. I doubloe click the icon in the Start button and
nothing. I open task manager and its not there. I try to start it with
Task Manager open, and it shows up for about a second and disappears.
I have uninstalled it, cleand out the registry entries, deleted the
folders and reinstalled (several times) and the same thing keeps
hapening.

Sign-In Problem (0x80004005 Error)
This is driving me crazy. For the past week I keep getting the 0x80004005
error when I try to sign into MSN Messenger. I doesn't matter what PC I try
to use I still get the same message. I created a new account and logged in
successfully. I believe that there is a problem with my account on the
Microsoft side however I keep getting generic responses from MSN tech
support.
I found a forum on another site that addressed this issue. Apparently there
was a guy who worked at Microsoft who verified that this problem was on
Microsoft's side and he actually was able to fix a couple of accounts of
people who e-mailed him. Unfortunately he shut down his e-mail after
getting flooded with requests. Does anyone know if Microsoft is looking
into this problem? I'd like to be able to access my previous account so I

I run on WinXP and MSN6.1 and use my webcam with other XP folks with no problem. We have one user running on NT4.0 using MSN5.0 (last available version for NT) and is unable to connect to our webcam. Is there any plug-in which will allow an NT4.0 user using Messenger 5.0 to view other folks with webcams??? MSN website pages of Messenger 4.7 would show webcam capabilities.
Any ideas would be extremely appreciated!

MSN Sign out problem. Solve it now.
Ok, so you got your Johnathan etc on here, well to let you know
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_mess_disable.htm
Will COMPLETELY remove Windows Messenger and forever rid you of the problem
where Windows Messenger signs you out of MSN Messenger. Now you notice I
don't tag any MS certification and all, that's because I don't need it. I
have been trying my own solutions and so forth to get rid of Windows
Messenger and in the end it was 99% gone.. well then I re-discovered Doug
Knox and his utility which another Microsoft person said, no no don't use
it. Well there's one reason he said that. Because it REALLY DOES remove
Windows Messenger. Don't worry about profile crap he spewed on about, if he
really used the program he'd realize upon a reboot it actually asks you
directly, "do you want to remove all your Windows Messenger Profiles", you
say "Yes" and your problems are forever solved. It WILL NOT mess up your MSN
Messenger and it WILL NOT mess up your computer. All my functionality,
audio, video, file transfer it all works.
So you can trust me or forever listen to these guys who are giving you
partial solutions. Why they wont promote Doug Knox and his solution, beyond
me. I've got my suspicions(but who cares).. So it's up to you solve the
problem or keep posting and checking here for updates, go use an alternative
Messenger. Your choice.
I'm not looking for praise and I'm not looking for pats on the back or
staged thank you's. I'm just providing you the solution to fix the problem
period. I work a fulltime job and don't have luxury of time like Johnathan
but I will help who I can help when I can.
Again, your choice. No hair off my back. Doug Knox = Microsoft MVP

Hello there.
I have a Toshiba e740 with Wifi. It has the messenger app installed on

"Logon to msn messenger service failed because the password is
incorrect or the logon name does not exist. Enter the correct user
name and password and try again. If the problem continues, contact
MSN."
On my desktop i can logon with the same user name and password. I
searched the net for answer, and read there are more problems with
this service, but i cannot fix this problem. I did a hard reset and
tried to logon, but it didn't work. I installed the update and tried
to logon, and it still didn't. I am getting frustrated, because i
really need msn messenger to work for my job. Is there someone who
knows how to solve this problem? Anyone? Thanks in advance.

Audio problems with Japan DSL - cable?
I've been communicating w/my daughter in Japan via email and Messenger.
I'm on Roadrunner. When she was staying with a family who had DSL, we
could only text eachother (I didn't have a webcam yet). Then when she
moved to a family with a cable ISP, we could connect both audio and
video. Now that she's with another family with DSL we can't do audio
anymore, but at least the video works.
So we also tried other connections, like AIM, Yahoo & Buddy Talk. They
all connect audio (we connected Yahoo video too, didn't try AIM).
I liked Messenger the best, when it worked. Just wondering, if there
was a known problem between Japanese DSL and American Cable? Actually
come to think of it another family was trying Japanese DSL to American
DSL, and that audio didn't work either....
