Firstly, make sure you have the latest Windows Updates installed (not that
this will affect
Messenger or your problems, but the following may unblock any sort of
"protection" you have,
and for your security it is imperative that you have the latest updates).
Windows Update can
be found here:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Next, if you have any third-party firewall software, uninstall it entirely
as it may be
blocking your connection.
Next, make sure that you don't have any adware or malware installed, and if
you do, remove it
using these tools:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html - Spybot
and you might even get the new Microsoft AntiSpyware a try
http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671
After all this is complete, reboot, and try connecting to some of these
things again. If
you're still experiencing the problem, try this link:
https://www.amazon.com
If Amazon *doesn't* come up, it sounds like SSL support in your browser is
broken. You might
try repairing this by clicking Start, then Run and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
Then click OK.
After this, do the same with the following:
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
still not working:
in msn messenger Click the Tools menu, then Options, then Connection tab
and see if a proxy has been set. If it has, uncheck it and try again.
