I'm having troubles loggin in to msn messenger.
Every time I try I get a 0x81000306 Error Code..

No configuration has changed since last Friday but since
I first stated trying this Monday, I always get the same
error.
What could be happening?

(My Messenger Version number is 6.2.0133)

Hi guys,

Well, got into work this A.M., tried to log into MSN and
had that same damn error code. I suspect the admins
blocked the port on the proxy to kill all IM applications.
The reason for my reply... Well I fixed mine, so maybe my
solution will work for you as well. I downloaded a free
application called "Hopster" to by-pass the proxy. Once
installed it configured my msn service and I managed to
log in.

Hope it works for you guys :-p

Don't think you'll be able to do much without admin
rights. You might try cracking the admin password using a
linux boot disk (search web for NT password cracker).
They're pretty straigh forward to use and can be used on
any Windows box aslong as you have physical access to the
machine.

Any employee of mine who did that on any of the shop computers would become
an ex-employee...with prejudice.

Greetings Nuno,

There are some minor difficulties with the Messenger service currently that will be
preventing a small minority of users from signing in.

If you are part of this minority, you may find it more handy to use a web-based Messenger
client for the time being:
http://www.wbmsn.net
http://www.e-messenger.net
http://www.msn2go.com
http://www.msn2web.com

Also, a number of software firewalls and proxies may be forcing you to connect using the
method that is currently not functioning. If this is the case, make sure that your software
firewall has given Messenger full access to the Internet connection and if you've forced
Messenger to use a proxy, try turning it off (this will only work of course, if you can
connect without a proxy). To turn off the proxy setting, open up the main Messenger window,
click the Tools menu, then Options, then Connection tab, uncheck "I use a proxy server" and
then click OK.

Also, here are some suggestions (assuming you're not in this minority of users):
1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that
the time and date are set.
2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the
correct case (uppercase or lowercase).
3. Change your password @ http://memberservicesnet.passport.com/memberservice.srf to
something smaller (under 10-12 characters), then try signing in again.
4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ), it's possible
that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet, especially since you
upgraded. You may need to re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall
if this is the case.
5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try
restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an
installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).
6. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the
Delete Cookies button.
7. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check
for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL
3.0' is checked, then click OK.
8. Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK

Hey! If I'm not paying you to surf the Internet, and chat with your friends,
you'd better not be surfing the Internet, or chatting with your friends on
my time.
