    - audio feedback on MSN messenger with webcam need some help here. I've been in Canada for six weeks now, which isn't why I need help (it's great), however I brought my laptop and logitech webcam from the UK where it all worked pefectly for webcam chats via MSN. Now when I try and chat with people in the UK I can see and hear them but the conversation is unsustainable for more than a few minutes because of what sounds like feedback. Using laptop internal speakers, quickcam into a USB port. I can record video and sound perfectly using Logitech image studio, playback no problem. Video/audio tuning wizard is fine. I can replicate the sound using Control panel/sounds and audio voice properties/voice/test hardware. recording is fine, but on playback there is the howling feedback noise. Spoken with logitech and they have checked camera settings, Shaw digital have changed the modem and checked the cables and connections through. Have had camera in ever possible position, run the laptop off the mains and battery. Now I'm stuck. any ideas out there thanks and regards Iain Tag: Encoding Problem Tag: 40095

    - MSN keeps signing off While I am using MSN Messenger, it keeps signing off, seemingly at random, and a box comes up telling me I was signed out because I signed in at another location. Windows Messenger doesn't seem to be open, and MSN now claims to be signed off, but I still get messages telling me when I've got email or when someone has signed in, and they can start conversations with me, even though I can't start conversations with them. When I sign in to MSN Messenger again, I get a message telling me I've been signed out of '.NET Messenger Service' (Note. Not MSN) because I signed in at another location. Whatever this .NET Messenger service is, how do I get it to stop signing itself on?     - can't sign in without administrator privileges I recently changed my XP Pro user account from Administrator to Limited. Now I can no longer sign in to MSN Messenger (6.1.0203). I get an error "Sorry, we could not sign you in because the sign-in name you entered does not exist or your passowrd is incorrect... 0x81000303". If I change back to having Administrator privileges, the sign-in works properly again. Removing and re-installing MSN Messenger does not help. I'm pretty sure this problem is related to permissions. I was having other difficulties after switching the account type to Limited, and I discovered that the account's Documents and Settings profile, as well as the HKEY_USERS registry keys, did not assign any privileges to the user account itself. (Privileges were given to all administrators, however, which is why things worked until I changed the account type to Limited.) When I added full-control privileges for the associated profile and registry keys, everything worked properly, except for MSN Messenger sign-in (I think the problem occurs with any attempted .NET sign-in from the now-Limited account). So there must be other file or registry permissions that have to be assigned permission for the now-Limited account in order for .NET to work properly. But I don't know what or where they are.     - No Messenger notifications when Media Center in full-screen Hi, even though I have unticked "block my alerts when running full-screen program", when I have Windows Media Center running full-screen (and possibly also windowed - not sure yet), I don't hear sounds or see notifications from people trying to chat with me.     - Web Cam disconnets randomly I am running MSN Messenger 6.1 on XP pro. I am in Florida communicating to Colombia SA which has XP home with MSN Messenger 6.1 also. I have a cable modem and the person in Colombia is using a 56 K modem. We can start up a conversation using web cam and it works fine for a while then disconnects. We click on Web Cam and start over again but then get disconnected again after a while. We tried using video conference and it is better but still disconnects occasionally (video quality is worse with video conference). The audio is good and does not disconnect. Is it possible that because of the distance involved there are many routers that might have fire walls that can cause this type of disconnect problem.     - MSN Messenger v6.1.0203 Audio DOES work behind my non UPnP NAT Hi, A while ago I was struggling hard to find a workaround for having voice conversations via Windows Messenger v5.0.0468 and to no avail. I'm connected to the Internet via an Alcatel SpeedTouch Pro ADSL Modem/Router which is connected to my 2 WinXP PCs home network through a switch. File Transfer was working on and off depending on recipient's setup (could never really figure out what made the difference though). Last night a friend recommended trying the new MSN Messenger v6.1.0203 as a fix for the FT problems. Having tried MSN v6.0 in the past with no better results than Windows Messenger, I was quite reluctant to try it out again but was finally persuaded and guess what? Not only file transfers work flawlessly even if its another NATted network on the other end (using the same version of MSN Messenger) even voice, which was always said to not withstand a chance penetrating a non UPnP router is working too. After reading MS's "Windows Messenger in Windows XP: Working With Firewalls and Network Address Translation Devices" article at: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/evaluate/worki01.asp it just puzzles me even more how come all this got solved with me not having to do anything but upgrading the SW? (no router configuration changes made whatsoever) and another thing - can anybody tell (a) how does it do it?     - problems signing in I just got a new computer, and I'm running Win 98 SE. When I downloaded MSN, it loaded fine; however, after the computer was restarted, msn would not sign in saying that I was behind a firewall (0x81000365). I don't have a firewall on my computer but there may be one on the router that I'm connected to. How do I find that out, and how do I open ports to MSN??     - MSN Messenger 6.1 - ONE WAY Audio only Both PC's using the MSN Messenger 6.1.0203 software. We both can use our webcams and I have to say the video is MUCH faster with 6.1 than 6.0. Both PC's are Win XP Pro. Mine is through a Linksys BEFSR41 1.44.2z (Only firmware I found to be stable). UPnP is enabled. Neither of us could get the audio to work until I did a hard reset of the router and re-enabled the UPnP. Now I can send my Audio and the other person can hear me but I can not hear them. Their connection is using the Netgear WGR614 wireless router (connected through the ethernet port). I made them reset their router and go back in to turn on the UPnP and we get the same problem. I cant hear them but they can hear me. I was thinking the problem may still be on my end because they can hear their mic through their speakers when they tap it.... so I think it's working....? We both pass the Audio/Video Tuning Wizards. We had no problems until they got the newer NG WGR614. They had the Linksys SR41 like me. Is there anything else I can try?     - MSN VOICE Probs ATTN: Jonathan. I never had the problem many have/had in signing on 6.1 even the latest " forced" version. I do still have problem with voice, I always had: I cannot hear my contacts, they can hear me; video and other features working fine. I'm using XP pro; thought it was my sound card problem but wasn't: Net Meeting and Yahoo work fine. I have been using and still use 6.0 on W98 and W2000 with no probs at all.; even with the 3rd party firewalls on ( Norton in these cases).On XP I use MacAfee firewall, but even disabling it and even uninstalling it completely, MSN Messenger voice doesn't work; I found an old 5.0; doesn't work either. Actually using this last got some better results: my contacts voice ,or better a sound like the carrier of a voice comm. comes up for a few seconds, then fades out. Used "Shields Up" to find any port left closed behind by my firewall; none is. Getting crazy with this and would like even if not solve at least understand a little more. Instead, I have found that it only works when starting a video conversation/ conference? with the other person.     - Conversation connections...once signed in i have an identical situation to this ben nichols...Linksys router as well...but my account(s) and my account(s) only on this computer and none of my other computers has this problem.     - MSN 6.1 Login Problems I am connected through a Linksys router and I have disabled my firewall. I had no problems with MSN Messenger before I updated, my router doesn't inhibit any connections as far as I know. Every time I log in, it waits for a second, then disconnects again. Most likely because you have your Passport settings set to Japan. To fix this, edit your
country information to the United States (or some other English speaking nation), at Passport
