Are the dynamic backgrouds essentially animated gifs? Something else? Is
there a way to extract them from the .dat files they are in to a jpg or gif?
The one I'm most interested in is the pixies dynamic background. I'd love
to get that as an animated gif or somesuch...

thnx,
Christoph

Dynamic backgrounds are composed of a jpg for the image and then a flash
.swf file for the animation.

Look in

\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\ID

Replace Owner with a username is applicable and ID with an ID

In one or more of the ID folders you will see DynamicBackgrounds

In that folder you'll see .dat files such as TFR78.dat Make a copy of
this file and rename is to a .cab then double click.

For example, copy TFR89.dat and rename is to TFT89.cab.

You'll see backgound.jpg which you can extract onto your desktop along
with a .swf file.

You may also see a content.xml file which contains properties for the
animation. With the clock dynamic background, it looks like you can
change properties by changing the content.xml file, though I've not
tried that :)
