That is exactly what I did, and it didn't work.
I finally managed to make it work last night after playing with the registry
for a few hours.
1. Uninstall MSN Messenger from the Computer
2. Go into the Registry and Delete all the MSNMessenger Folders.
3. MOVE all your information in the userdir/Contacts, and the userdir/Local
Settings/Application Data/Windows Live Messenger to a different directory.
4. Restart the Computer.
5. Download MSN Messenger, and Install
6. Try to Login... You will get the long spinning Icon.
7. Shutdown MSN.
8. Move BACK the Contact Folders.
9. Re-launch MSN and try to connect... it should do it. Your Out of date
Contact information will auto update after about 2 minutes being connected.
At least, this is what did it for me.
The entire problem started after being told to "Delete" the contact
information due to the contact not updating from the server and just getting
it from the Cache.
I thank everyone for their fast response, but it seems that everyones
answers are all carbon copies, yet no one actually spends the time to
determine the order, or is willing to "screw up" their version to try to
duplicate the problem.
