    - webcam settings selection problem my webcam is not working properly in msn. it's a creative webcam NX and i'm running windows 98 SE. i have installed the camera using the software provided on my computer and my roommates computer. on my computer, when i go to webcam settings i can choose the creative webcam in the list of camera selections and i can view the webcam image in the viewer. but there is a message on the viewer screening saying i cannot change my webcam settings because my webcam is either not plugged in or it is being used by another program. on my roommates computer the webcam works fine with no problems in msn messenger. i cannot see any other programs that might be using my webcam since i didn't not install any other programs that could use the webcam other than messenger. i've tried everything from reinstalling messenger to my webcam drivers to removing my cable capture card. any advice?? There seems to be alot of ppl getting the picture virus through msn messenger. are they accepting a file or wat? ppl are saying when the send a message they see japanese women and sum txt and it takes them to a website. I just want to know if msn has informed antivirus companies about this problem?????? and wat is the msn team doing to stop this??? maybe u need to email everyone and tell them not to open a particular attachment with the file name ??? sum fixes were this: Close Messenger. This will simply stop any of your contacts getting the virus. 2. Goto 'Start' then 'Run' and type 'msconfig'. A new window should appear. 3. Click on the tab at the top right that says 'Startup'. 4. Untick the box next to 'MSN Messenger'. 5. Click 'ok' and when it asks if you want to restart your computer say no. 6. Press 'Ctr' + 'Alt' + 'Del'. Find the file that says 'MsgSpread' and click End Task. The virus has now been deactivated! To remove it fully follow these instructions: 1. Goto the Desktop and open My Documents. 2. Double click on 'Messenger Service Received Files'. If you dont see a folder called that then goto 'My Computer' then goto 'C' then 'Program Files' and finally 'Messenger Service Received Files'. 3. You should now see a file called 'PIC1234(1)(1)(1)(1)(1) (1)(1)(1).exe'. 4. Click on it ONCE and press 'Delete'. This should delete the file. 5. Empty your Recylce Bin. The virus has now been fully removed! there is also a removal tool d/l here: http://www.2-spyware.com/file-pic1234-exe.html click on download scanner and remover sum fixes were this: 1.go to Run -> regedit 2.go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio n\Run 3.after there, remove "realone_nt2003" and "realone_nt2004" 4.then, go to C:\Windows\System32 5.find and remove "MONIKER.EXE", "SYSLRAY.EXE", "HKT1.DLL" - (is sys"L"ray, not sys"T"ray, becarefull) - (if u cannot remove moniker.exe or syslray.exe, u ctrl+alt+del, go to process, u end the process of this two) 6.then uninstall msn messanger 7.restart pc 8.reinstall msn messanger again 9.done Tag: Contacts Tag: 56589

    - Messenger doesn't even loads When I try to open MSN Messenger it gives me the box that says that Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close. I've uninstalled it and installed it again and it doesn't work, I've tried the solutions that Jonathan usually gives and doesn't work either. I've rebooted in safe mode and it runs normally, but when I go to normal mode, it gives me the same message and closes. A cousin of mine had the same problem but he also had some other issues with his computer and formatted it and installed MSN Messenger and it works fine. I am using dial-up modem. The other person is using ADSL Router, but can chat with other people fine. I have checked and I'm using a direct connection.     - Can't go voice I am trying to use voice on MSN Messenger - I have Windows XP Pro and I installed a few days ago SP2. Voice doesn't work. I use Zona Alarm firewall but I shut it down to use voice. After reading what some of you experts wrote about uninstalling QoS I did that, and things don't work either. When I try to have a conversation, after a few seconds saying "Connecting to XYZ's computer", it shows the message "The audio conversation with XYZ has ended" and I can't talk. I have a Linksys wireless router and just upgraded the firmaware. This didn't change anything. I talked to a few people that know much more than me on this and one of the things that they noticed is that in my "Network Connections", under "Internet Gateway" the "Internet Connection" gateway is disabled and it should be enabled. I right click on it, select "Enable" and it doesn't change the status (I can repeat that many times and it won't work) What should I do to be able to use voice?     - Picture virus??? HELP! A friend sent me a message on MSN and a link came up after the message. As this friend often sends me links I clicked on the link, it was a picture of an oriental girl. I asked why he'd sent it and he said he hadn't. It was obviously some sort of virus as it then came up after every post he made. And now it's happening to me too! Everytime I message someone they get the url after my message, I've now infected another person with this msn virus as well. How do I get rid of it? I've searched my PC and can't find the files.     - Is someone trying to access my account? Last night as I was using my computer, MSN messenger logged out all of a sudden and it saids I have logged on in another computer. I was at my computer the whole time and I have not gave anyone my password. Needless to say I logged in immediately and changed my password.     - MSN Freeze at login time I have this issue on two computers at home. Both have Win XP SP2. The first one is an older installation and MSN Messenger worked fine last Friday. The other one is a new, freshly installed, WinXP SP2 Since yesterday, both can't login with MSN Messenger 6.2. It establishes the contact, display the contact list, but then freeze. Error reports are sent to MS, but I can't use Messenger. Nothing has changed on the older computer.     - Messenger my o/s is xp pro. i dont have msn messenger, i have windows messenger. i didnt want both, and windows is ok. i go to an msn groups website forum that requires sign in to read any pages. the problem is that i chose to sign in automatically, and cant seem to find a way to reverse it. i used to have to sign in with the xp drop down menu before i read the site, and now i can get right in, but it also allowed windows messenger to be able to be signed in without password right out of the programs menu. other people use my pc, and i dont want them to be able to do that. i looked at tools/options/privacy and the tab is checked properly. any ideas? and also, with windows messenger, can you delete email adresses out of the drop down somehow? thanks in advance.     - Help required please. I currently have XP professional with firewall disabled and MSN 6.2 installed. However, whenever I try an audio conversation through MSN I can hear the other person talking but they can't hear me.     - Application Error I do not use MS Messenger but it starts up when I turn on my computer. Today I am getting a msmsgs.exe application error popping up every two minutes.     - MSN PROBLEM Hello, I am Prashant Varshney from India, I am having a problem with MSN Messenger 6.1 which I tried to solve by the suggestions given on askmarvin forum, but of no use. I'll briefly explain my computer setup We have a Peer to Peer connection of 5 computers through a 100 MBPS Switch. One computer has a USB modem installed that connects the net through ADSL connection. This computer (referred as computer A) has Win 2000 professional installed on it, as well as on the others, except for a laptop that has winXP home edition (preloaded). The IP address computer A is 192.168.0.1 whereas the other computers have a automatically generated IP address assigned by DCHP. Computer A has internet connection sharing enabled, by virtue of which we can browse the net on other computers also. Web surfing works fine except for few sites, reasons unknown to me, but MSN fails to start on the other computers, whereas it works fine on that particular machine (A). Also we have NAV 2003 installed on all the computers (I dont know whether it creates the problem). For mail we use Outlook express 6 which works fine.     - msn says server not available problems started when I uninstalled eztrust antivirus/firewall. I started having internet connection issues with comcast. Couldn't figure it out, luckily enough system restore did it for me. After I uninstalled eztrust this time the internet was working just fine. A few of my games, and messenger didn't recognize that an active connection was available. I upgraded to sp2 figuring that would do it. no changes at all. I made sure that the necessary ports/programs were specified in windows firewall, I even shut it down to see if it was a firewall issue. no luck. Currently I can connect with a few of my games, IE has no problems. Some of my games (all of them are blizzard) won't connect, and MSN Messenger won't as well. What should I try?     - Messenger error code 0x81000370 & hotmail error Hi, I am having a messenger error code 0x81000370. I tried to sign in last night & couldn't. It just comes up with that error. I also cannot sign into hotmail to check my emails. When I go to the sign in page, I can type in my email addy & password, then I hit enter & a 'this page cannot be displayed' comes up.     - Alerts problem: NET Passport service is currently unavailable I have two computers, both running Windows XP, SP2, both with MSN Messenger 6.2. On one, everything is fine. On the other, however, when I click on the Alerts tab in MSN Messenger, I get the dreaded "The .NET Passport service is currently unavailable..." message. It's bogus, of course, since it works fine on the computer right behind me. Here's what I've tried so far: 1. Completely uninstalled MSN Messenger and deleted the corresponding registry entries; rebooted, and reinstalled MSN Messenger 6.2. Still broken. 2. Went into IE and cleared the cache and cookies. Still broken. 3. Reset all Privacy and Security settings to the Default. 4. I have Norton A/V 2004. I turned it off. Still broken. 5. I turned off the Windows Firewall (which does, by the way, have an exception for MSN Messenger 6.2) Nothing [so far] has any effect. On the problem computer, when I use Windows Messenger, instead of MSN Messenger, the Alerts tab there works fine. I suspect the problem is somehow connected with MS IE. Here's why. Using MS IE, I navigate to http://alerts.msn.com/Alerts/Default.aspx?lcid=1033,then try to continue by clicking on Manage Alerts, it gives me the "NET Passport service is currently unavailable" screen, identical to what I see in MSN Messenger. However, if I use a different browser, such as Foxfire, I don't get that error. Instead, it works perfectly. The question is... What has happened to MS IE such that it's no longer cooperating with the Alerts tab? Note: two other tabs are similarly broken: CNBC and "See your local Traffic Forecast and Gas prices..." Is there a way to completely erase a contact from your
Allow and Blocked List? I know that I can delete them and
block them from my email and from my contact list but I
would like to also erase their email from the Allow and
Blocked Lists. Can you help me with this?

Greetings,

You can right-click contacts in the Privacy/Allow lists and choose Delete. However, this
option will be grayed out if that particular contact has not removed you from their main
contact list, in which case you won't be able to remove them until they do.
