 - AIM crash MSN Messenger I've recently installed AOL Instant Messaging in the short term. I've noticed, though, that if I run AIM, something it does will cause any subsequent executions of MSN to hang-up, or generate and Access Violation. Reinstalling MSN Messenger fixes it, but just until AIM has been run again. Does anyone know how to get these two to play nicely?  - MSN Messenger 6.1/6.2 *disappears* after logon!!! Hi, Only since today (as far as I know, I haven't changed any computer settings), MSN has been 'disappearing' as soon as it logs on. Once I've logged on, the program disappears - it's no longer listed in the Ctrl+Alt+Del screen, but the icon is still in the taskbar. Everthing works fine with MSN Messenger 6.2, except for application sharing, remote support and whiteboard. File-transfer, video an voice is works. I try to establish a connection to a client, which is not behind a firewall or NAT-Router (official IP). First occurd a error message a the remote computer. The message at the remote client - not behind a firewall or NAT-Router - is (translated): "At the callers a computer-error or network-error occured. 0x80ee000c, the SIP-transaktion has reached the time limit." And later, this message occured at my client. The message at the client behind the NAT-UPnP-Router is (translated): "The computer or the networks, you try to establish a connection, do not respond. At the computer or network, you try to establish a connection has occured a proble. 0x80ee000c, the SIP-transaktion has reached the time limit."  - MSN Messenger - Problems With Web Cam All, I am using Msn Messenger Version 6.1 to communicate with my Father in UK with my Web Cam. The problem is that I can see and hear him OK, but he can only see but not hear me. My web cam is configured properly as I have sent him video emails.  - can't import contacts I am running w2000pro and trying to important contacts from my laptop (xp-pro). I exported the contact and the file is good with all contacts in it. When I try to "import contacts from a saved file" to messanger (6.2) nothing happens(cannot export either.) This is a dual boot system and if I boot my copy of xp-pro it can import in messenger, and the laptop I exported the contacts from can import. I have uninstalled messenger and re- installed. No change? I am just about ready to type it in manually, but I will still have to solve this eventually. Any pointers to help me figure this out will be appreciated.  - Messenger shuts down without warning Has anybody experienced the following: messnger starts up fine, I am able to log on and after about one minute messenger shuts down without a warning. There are no entries in the eventviewer either to show what might be the problem. Here it is... -- Verify in IE >Tools >Internet Options > Advanced Tab that "Check for server certificate revocation" is UNchecked and 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL 3.0' are checked -- Verify in IE >Tools >Internet Options > Security Tab >Internet that all the 3 "Scriptings" are "Enabled" and the other options are same as they were at Medium default -- Verify in IE >Tools >Internet Options > Security Tab >Trusted Sites that all the following websites are in the "Trusted Zone" and the Security level is set to "Low" messenger.hotmail.com loginnet.passport.com login.passport.net memberservicesnet.passport.net -- Delete/Clear all Internet Cookies, temp files and history -- Verift that date and time stamps on computer are correct -- Verify that Cypher Strength/Level of Encryption for IE (under Help >About) is set to 128-bit.  - MSN Messenger 6.2 Emoticon Issues This pupose of this post it to report a bug/annoyance that is specific to using emoticons in version 6.2.0133. Mr. Kay... hopefully you see this as I see you as being the man to report issues to the developers. Or feel free to direct me to the proper personnel. Anways, there a couple of issues I've come across. One, is when trying to use the "party" smiley by manually typing out the characters [ <:o) ]... the intended emoticon cannot be displayed because the ":" and the "o" will automatically create the "surprised" smiley as you type your chat message. Secondly, you cannot copy and paste emoticons now since they are created "on-the-fly"... in other words... you cannot quickly make a whole slew of emoticons simply by pasting them several times... you have to manually select or type them one by one. There may be other similar issues as well.. but so far, these are the ones I found to be annoying.  - Video conferencing terminates I am experiencing a very frustrating problem video- conferencing with Messenger 6.2. When I initiate or receive an invitation for a video conference a connection is established but immediately dropped with the "Video conference with x has ended". This is all the more frustrating as I have been video conferencing with messenger in my current set-up for nearly a year. I have a Belkin wireless router and Zoom Adsl x4 Modem. Over the same weekend, I was forced to reboot my router and I also upgraded to Messenger 6.2 (from 6.1). Since then I have lost the ability to video conference although I can send and receive webcams. Having read a number of posts on this site, I have done the following:- 1. Re-run audio/video tuning wizard 2. Disabled all firewalls (XP/Router/Modem) 3. Checked the tools/options/connections/advanced connection info which says "You are connected to the internet through a non-UPnP port restricted NAT (Administrator)" 4. As I had made no specific config changes when I originally installed my modem router nearly a year ago, I returned both to factory defaults. I would stress that Video conferencing had been working through my set-up for sometime. 5. I enabled UPnp on my router. The connection info then states "You are connected to the internet through a cascaded UPnp port restricted NAT (Administrator)" 6. Checked the Belkin support website and put the PC with the camera in a DMZ as recommended (although it worked without my doing this previously) 7. I then went back to v4.7 of Messenger on my laptop and desktop (both of which have webcams) and got a successful video conference going - which did not happen with the later 6.2 version of messenger. Interestingly, the connection status of 4.7 tells me "You are connected a .NET messenger service directly (no firewall). However, this doesn't work for any of my external contacts (I get the same immediate termination of the conference), even though I asked them to downgrade to 4.7 My last change is to go back to 6.1 which was my last known working version but I can't seem to find it anywhere.  - Error After XP Home Update I installed Windows XP Home SP1a, attempting to do all Windows Updates (this was the first). No problem during installation...took 3.5 hours on a dial-up and never lost connection. After install, got "unable to sign into .NET Messenger Service, possibly because of a problem w/service or with your internet connection. Please make sure that you are connected to the internet." I connect to the MSN server, authenticate sign on, and then disconnect. I disabled firewall, cleared cache, history, etc., checked IE settings, modem settings, and ran regsvr32 sofpub.dll. After softpub.dll, I no longer get the above message, but connect and immediately am disconnected. I updated MSN Messenger to ver 6.2 and updated Windows Messenger to the latest. Running MSN 6. Greetings,

To have the Chinese characters appear and assuming you're using Windows 2000 or Windows XP,
you'll need to add support for them by clicking Start then Run, type:
control intl.cpl
and click OK.

For Windows XP, click the Languages tab, click the two checkboxes in the "Supplemental
language support" group and click OK.
For Windows 2000, simply click the appropriate Chinese options under 'Language settings for
the system' and click OK.
