    - How can I verify my email address if I've deleted the 'Welcome' email from MS? My MSN Messenger id is still tagged with "Email address not verified".     - Maintaining microphone preferences Running the newest MSN Messenger 6.0.0602, is there a way to set microphone preferences up outside of Audio/Video Tuning Wizard? I have a laptop with a USB camera / microphone that I will plug in as desired. But, everytime I unplug the USB device (or boot my laptop with the camera unplugged), if MSN Messenger is running (which it is because I always start the program on start-up) my microphone always defaults to the built in sound card microphone. Thus, after plugging in the cameram, if I forget to run the wizard I'll do an audio call and find I have no mic. Then I exit audio, run wizard, and restart audio. What I am looking for is someway to have a "preference order" on the microphone such that I can set it up for USB camera mike, then built-in sound card mike, then none.     - loadqm.exe I recently disabled this file through my start-up folder. When I did I had trouble with logging in and out of hotmail through Messenger which caused web pages and, at one point my system, to crash. Out of intrigue more than anything else, I re-enabled the file. Since I have done this my firewall has been flooded with non-stop connection attempts [mostly to port 135]. I have read up on this file and no-one seems to have a straight answer as to it's purpose other than a relation to MSN Messenger. One enquirer was even told to stop being paranoid and just live with it. This is chuff all to do with paranoia - I am well aware M$ probably have my inside leg measurement, despite my best efforts to counteract info retrieval on their part - this is about my, already crappy, dial-up connection getting flooded therefore reducing the amount of bandwidth available to me. I may have to use v4.6 indefinitely.     - having trouble adding contacts. i have msn messenger 4.7 installed and i have a .net passport and here is my problem. i have a friend who uses messenger but when i send a request to add him to my list it tells me that he doesn't have a .net passport and it sends him a message to sign up for a .net passport. i have tried adding several other contacts also and it always gives me the same message. i can't uninstall it because it's part of windows. i did however start up in safe mode and deleted the folder and reinstalled with the 4.7 but i still get the same problem. anyone have any clue what the deal is here? any help would be greatly appreciated.     - Messenger Sign Off In the last few days I've been having problems with Messenger just signing itself off for no reason at all. This isn't particularly a problem with the older versions of messenger and I have it working fine, but with the introduction of MSN Messenger 6 and the ability to save chat history a few wrinkles have been introduced. I would like to be able to figure out which "number" key that is a subkey of "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\PerPassportSettings" OR "HKEY_USER\<SID>\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\PerPassportSettings" is related to the current user or the user currently logged in to MSN Messenger. Even a key that gives a list of these numbers would be handy. I am interested in this because I need to get the "log directory" and make sure that it isn't wiped out without the user's consent. Have searched MS site for a fix...but no go. I get an
error message that the server is unavailable. I have
wiped the c:\program Files\messenger and re-installed the
XP version. (4.7) on 2 occassions. Can anyone help me or
point me in the right direction.
