I tried to uninstall MSN Messenger, but was getting error message
<...\Installer\ file xxx.msi is not found>. Now, in the Control Panel>
Add/Remove Programs, I see the MSN Messenger, but it has no Change/Remove
button. The messenger works, but it has some problems. So, I'd like to
uninstall or remove MSN Messenger completely and then reinstall it. How can
I uninstall MSN Messenger if I cannot do it in Control Panel?

I dunno if this will work for MSN Messenger but it's the standard for this.
Reinstall the application on top of itself. After that you should be able to
uninstall it. Seems Jonathan is on vacation so this is what I'd recommend
trying at any rate.

Agreed, download MSN Messenger again and try a repair install. That should
replace any missing or corrupted files and components. Then, your uninstall
should work fine...in theory.

Harrison and Galen,
thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, I tried it before, but it did not
work. I tried to download a new MSN Messenger, but, apparently, before
installation, it wanted to remove the "old" version and, of course, could
not find that msi file... Moreover, I tried to use two other suggestions -
to run <rundll32 advpack...> with no effect. The MSN Messenger is still
working (although with some problems) and it's sitting in Add/Remove
Programs in Control Panel, although without a Change/Remove button....
I'm at the end of my rope...

Hi Ilyaz,

Try this if are using a registry cleaner program.

Go into the restore section of the program (most will have some means to
undo what they have removed). See if you can find one where there is a
reference to .msi files and restore all of them. Some registry cleaner
programs erroniously remove these.

Exact same problem happened to me, and this was the solution. After
restoring the everything to do with .msi files, the problem was solved.

Good luck!
Cheers,

Larry,
thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, there is no MSN Messenger's .msi
file on my hard drive, in the RegSeeker backups, and in the Recycle bin. I'm
sure, if I can restore it, then it'll solve the problem. But for now, I'm at
square one trying to find a way to kill the messenger (pun intended).

Just to let you know, I used manual registry clean up twice. First, I
removed all mentions of <MSN Messenger>, second <MSNMessenger>. This made
the trick - MSN Messenger was removed from Control panel...
Thank you all who helped me in this case.
