web cam prob with XP Media Edition
I cannot get my G.E. webcam, which uses MS software to
transmit from my HP Media center computer. I have Windows
XP media edition. The camera works on other computers -
not this one. The camera will display video but not
transmit video out or receive sound. The computer does
not "see the camera."
Has any one experienced this problem?

MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger
I have Windows Messenger pre-installed with my Windows XP
Software. Then I upgraded it to MSN Messenger 6. But they
are not working together properly. I want to use MSN
Messenger 6, but when I open Outlook Express, then
Windows Messenger 4.7 becomes active and shuts down MSN
Messenger. Can anyone please tell me how I can resolve
this problem,

unable to sign in to my msn & net passport please help
for the last week i have been unable to sign in to my msn
and net passport, this is a real pain as i cant read any
of my hotmail from my pc, but i can gain access via
another pc (a friends pc), the error message says no dns
and cheek browser settings, but i don't know what my
browser should be set on all cookies are allowed and im
still having problems, if anyone can help i would be so
greatful as this problem is a real pain in the bum.

autocomplete sign-in
I have found that when the sign-in prompt comes up for
messenger, all email addresses that have previously been
used from this computer are shown in a drop-down box from
the "email address" field. I have "autocomplete" turned
off in internet explorer, but the addresses continue to
appear in both windows messenger (for XP) and MSN
messenger (which I downloaded). Is there any way that you

After signing in using the bottom messenger icon it
always used to display my hotmail identity as the main
sign in - with the option to sign in as another identity
if one wished. Suddenly - and for no apparent reason -

MEssenger upload problem
Hi,
Not sure how to explain this problem properly... but I'll try.
I'm chatting a mate on msn messenger 6, and choose to send him a file (mp3,
zip of photos I've taken etc).
After a short while (usually between 1 and 2 Mb of the upload), y internet
connection stops working... or at least something seems to set up a block.
MSN messenger signs out, and when i try to sign back in it tells me I'm set
up through a proxy or a firewall etc...
The only way I can solve this is to reboot.
The problem only started happening AFTER i installed the latest service pack
from Windows Update, and subsequently installed the USB 2.0 Controller using
the sp1 drivers (new computer, motherboard CD didn;'t have proper drivers
for it)!
If my connection cut off, I'd blame that, but, I stay connected to the
internet, just can't do anythign with it!
When I try to reconnect after disconnecting, I can't and have to reboot.
I@m not sure which group should be reading this post, but, as the problem
seems to be triggered by sending files in Messenger 6, I'll start here!

Has anyone being stuck in this bizarre; a user is
chatting with a contact and abruptly the contacts are no

Version 5 and 6 Problem
I got MSN 5 at moment and then downloaded MSN 6.
When i install or try to uninstall either version i get an
error message
The fixture you are trying to use is on a network resource
which is unavailable.
Then the error message wants me to look for the correct
MsnMsgs.Msi location
I have searched for that on my PC and tried them all but
still it says that is wrong one.
MSN 6 installs but as soon as i try to sign in it fails
and says that not connected to internet

MSN Messenger 6 and XP Professional
We have recently upgraded to XP Professional and we
cannot get MSN Messenger 6.0 to work. We have the icons
and the shortcuts but when we click on it nothing
happens. We dont have a firewall.

Multiple HTTP Connections
I have noticed lately that a number of PC's on my corporate network
are making and maintaining as many as 60 simultaneous connections to
(presumably) an MSN Messenger server. The URL is something to the

Can't login since upgrading to MSN messenger 6.0
I have combed the archives and haven't found this problem
yet. I recently upgraded to 6.0 and haven't been able to
log in. All that happens is it goes to the Sign In
screen, I enter my username and pass, the icons start
rotating like it's going to log in, and then it returns me
to the Sign in screen.
This is what I've tried so far:
1) shut down the firewall (Agnitum outpost), as well as
making sure messenger was allowed
2) removed and re-installed messenger
This is getting very frustrating, and I've already posted
once with no reply. If ANYONE could help please let me
know.

I downloaded MSN Messenger 7. Now I cannot find Windows Messenger.
The help for MSN Messenger says that only one will be started
automagically at boot, but the other should be available to put
in the system tray. I cannot find WM in any of the Start Program
menus.

"The system cannot open the device or file specified..."
Whether I download the file or install it on line, I get the above error.
If I click retry it just keeps giving the same error. If I click cancel I
get the message:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.
This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755."
I then click on OK and then 'finish' and I get the message box 'MSN
messenger set-up has failed with error code 1603......'
But however many times I download the file it is the same result. It all
started because I could log in with my .NET password on the .NET site but
when I tried to use messenger I always got the 'cannot connect' message when
there was actually nothing wrong. I therefore uninstalled version 5 and
downloaded version 6. First attempts at set-up said I did not have
sufficient permissions on 'c:\config...'. but when I looked there was no
such file anywhere so I uninstalled and downloaded the new version. Now I
get the error in the subject line. I have also set full control to all
users and system on everything on C: and subdirectories. Still no joy. Any
ideas?

Exiting from MSN Messenger 6.0
Have just recently taken an educated plunge (totally supported by this
newsgroup) and installed MSN Messenger 6.0 in the light of the current
Microsoft Messenger Service upgrade requirements. My older, smaller and
slower Windows 98 SE, Pentium 200MHz, 64 MB RAM and 56K dialup Internet
access is supposed to be insufficient as far as the v6.0 System
Requirements are concerned. I'm just delighted, however, to say that
v6.0 is currently working quite fine thank you.
My question is this. When I sign-off and close MSN Messenger 6.0, the
program icon remains in the System Tray by the clock. To get rid of
this icon (and the msnmsgr.exe program that is still running in the
background) I must then also use the right-click popup, context menu at
the icon to EXIT from it. Is there perhaps a tweak or trick that I can
use such that it is possible to Close and Exit all in just one step,
when I initially Close the program from within the GUI via the File menu
or the X button?

Can't sign in MSN6 - BUT can in Hotmail
I have the same problem Kay reported. I can't sign in
MSN6 (latest version on XP Home) but checked .Net
Passport and hotmail all work fine. Unchecked the '
revoke certificate box' rebooted... did not help.
BTW I can sign in using my wife's hotmail id on the same
PC and I can also sign in with the problem hotmail ID on
a W2K PC behind the same Linksys router

Application sharing?
I've long used Application Sharing to assist home
employees with their PC problems by being able to monitor
their screens.
Now that we've all upgraded to ver 6.0, I can no longer
make the connections. Getting error about not having the
latest version of MSN Messenger, even though we've all

Modem TimeOut only with MSN 6
I have a ADSL D-Link DSL-504 Router, and MSN messanger 6
When I want share a background or send a file (the same thing happen when
they want to send me a file) I get a time out on my modem. I have to unplug
the power and restart every time.
But the funny thing is that if I use Windows messanger, or the old MSN
messanger I don't get any timeouts :-(

I installed a program for my digital camera and ever since
my MSN Messenger wont load. It give me an error that

Character recognition - Global IME
Hi,
before I downloaded the newest version of the messenger, I was able to use
Global IME to use Korean Characters for chatting.
In the new version this aint possible anymore. Reading Korean works, but
writing is impossible.

cant get rid of ver 5 messenger
I had version 5 of messenger. It kept popping up telling me that I needed
updates. I went out and installed a new version of messenger 6 thinking
this would take care of it. Now I have two versions of messenger showing up
by my clock. I can stop verson 6, but everytime I try to close out of
version 5 it tells me that there is another application using this and it
can't shut down. The only other programs that could be using messenger are
outlook express (I found where to disable messenger for this program),
Microsoft Outlook and IE ( cant find where to disable it in these programs).
How do I uninstall version 5 and where in the office version of outlook and
IE do you disable using Messenger. I don't even want messenger running at
all.

I keep getting this pop up telling me that i am running a
version that requires an immediate security update please

MSN Messenger disconnects often
MSN Messenger disconnects and re-connects atleast once
every 5 minutes!. Plus, most of the messages do not reach
the contact at all!. Earlier version of MSN Messenger did
not have these two problems. Everyone in my company and

Does anyone know the DLL Fix for a 98 computer
running messenger 6, my friend says her sound is not
working since she updated her messenger to 6.
It would easier to reinstall the sound drivers wouldn't it?
