    - OT: "Most Popular" websites I got a question, and if I don't get the proper anser, then it's a gripe. Anyway, I was just scrolling through my RSS feeds, and there's one that got me thinking: "MySpace gains top ranking of US Web sites". Now, it's not that MySpace is popular - that's not what concerns me. What concerns me is how they got this ranking. Does that mean that they counted a hit (or visit, depending on how they're counting) for everyone that visited the myspace.com domain? Or only people that stayed for more than 10 seconds or so? Because, what I can't figure out is how msn.com isn't the most popular website year after year. Every copy of IE ships with msn.com (or a redirector to it) as the default home page. That means every time someone with IE fires up their browser, msn.com gets hit. Sure, it might not be a unique visitor, but that's my thinking anyway. And yeah, people change their home page all the time. But it's been my experience that most people eithe rdon't know how or are too lazy to do it (I myself can admit to still having msn as my home page on my work machine [where there are no GPOs preventing this] and on one machine at home).     - Can I use swticher instead of router in this case? I don't quite understand when I read the following paragrpahy on Microsoft Training Kit. ------- Suppose you are designing a campus network with 200 host spead over four buildings - Voter Hall, Twilight Hall, Monore Hall, and Sunderland Hall. You want each of these four buildings to include 50 hosts. If you ISP has allocated to you the Class C network 208.147.66.0, you can use the addresses 208.147.66.1-208.147.66.254 for your 200 hosts. However, because these hosts are distributed among four physically separate locations, these hosts are not all able to communicate with each other by means of local network broadcast. By extending the subnet mask and borrowing 2 bits from the host ID portion of your address space, you can divide the network into four logical subnets. You can then use a router to connect the four physcial networks. -------- I wonder if I can use a switcher instead of a router to connect other 4 switchers sitting on each building. Take the above scenario as an example, the subnet mask is /28 (255.255.255.240). I guess that the adoption of a router may bring the following advantages: 1. support accessibility of varied subnets. 2. reduce network traffic due to the decrease of the number of subnet's hosts (default is 254, and it is 62 in this case) I still not very clear â??broadcastâ?? in TCP/IP. When a host sends a data package, if the destined host is in the same subnet as sender host, the data package would be broadcasted in the subnet.     - Please help with 70-228 I have failed this exam twice, I am obviously having trouble. I scored 679 on the second go around, but I need some help on clearing up some issues. Thanks in advance. 1.. There was a question about performance. A server had 4 CPUs and 1GB of RAM. The CPU % was at 90, the Available MB was 800MB, and a % privileged time was at 20%. The problem was that people logging in to their computer were very slow and some times erring out. Some of the answer I remember are. 1.. Increase RAM. (I don't think so because the available was 800MB) 2.. Increase Virtual Memory. 3.. Set SQL to use CPUs 0,1, & 2. 4.. Set SQL to use CPUs 1,2,3. 2.. Do you think is this inefficient order to study or it doesn't matter? As far as I see the objective, both doesn't seem to be overlapped and very different. I think 70-290 covers Active Directory (am I correct?) so it seems better to study TCP/ID and DNS first. However, I'm still wondering if 70-290 might be the base of 70-291. I've realised that the MCDST is an elective for the MCSA, so if I finish 70-291 I'll have my MCSA, however, it doesn't appear to be an elective for MCSE. Is this correct? Also, ISA 2004 is an elective for the MCSA, but doesn't seem to be for the MCSE.     - Holler! Hey do I have to: (a) be an American (b) be an MCSE to post and chat to your crazy kids? I'm in the UK, twelve years experience in IT (all I've ever done). Decided this year that after ten years in the same job, I'd like a move, and that certificates would help me. Of course, I'm also up for self-improvement and all that. Passed three MCP's since January, having to fund everything myself so not been on any courses. Just reading books and my experiences have got me through. Next one up is 70-294. Once I've got the MCSE, I'll be hopefully looking at doing some Citrix certs. My first question, should you choose to accept me, is this: Once I've passed all the relevant MCP's, does the 'system' automatically make me an MCSE?
