I passed 70-216 today !!! Horay!
Dear all,
I have passed 70-216 just a couple of minutes ago and it is not that much of
a beast as advertised here. However the only problem that I have is that I
do not have enough time to complete all the questions. I had 60 questions to
finish in only 2h15m. That leaves me about 2min/question and quite a number
of questions are long winded. Ends up that I have to rush thru questions to
catch up with the time. That still leaves me about 5 questions unfinished
and I had to simply select A,B, C or D hoping that it might gain me some
marks.
I personally find 70-217 is slightly harder than this 70-216. In 70-216, I
can figure out almost right away the answer after the reading some of the
questions while 70-217, I have to do elimination for most answers.
I used Syngress 70-216 MCSE and then the 3 books found in Win2k Resource Kit
(Internetwork, TCP/IP and Distributed) to learn from ground up. I do not
have working experience on Win2k server.
Advice for 70-216 candidates, to not freak out by this exam. Just prepare
well and understand well. As with any exam, go for it when you are ready.
This exam took me 4 months to prepare.

outlook hangs on third e-mail recepient
Guys,
This is really wierd. I had exchange 5.5 and had a catastrophic error. I
ended up putting Exchange 2000 on a Win 2k DC. I have about fifteen users.
Now when these users use outlook the e-mail is much slower. Here is what
the symptoms are. When we send to one user it goes through quick and fast.
Two same thing. When I put three people in the "To" box the program
responds very slowly. First it resolves the first two names very fast but
on the third it takes a while to resolve the name. I get the hourglass for
about ten seconds.
Next when I hit send it normally takes one second with one or two people in
the to box, however with three it is taking thirty seconds. I have all DNS
pointing to the exchange box. The GAL is kept on the server. I am
confused. Anybody got any answers I will be forever in your debt. Thanks,
Brad Wilson

70-217 Advice
I'm planning to take the 70-217 exam. I would like to have some advice:
What topics are on this test?
How hard it is?
Additional advice from you?
Are the Microsoft book enough?

MICROSOFT EXAMS
I have noticed that there is a growing tendancy with
people taking MCP/MCSA/MCSE exams to study Cheat Sheets
and forget about learning the subject, armed with all the
answers they are going and sitting the exam and passing,
which is making a mockery of Microsoft's qualification
system.
Most potential employers haven't got a clue when hiring
these numpties, who give the rest of the IT community a
bad name when they screw up big time. It will only be a
matter of time before employers get wise and stop hiring
MCSE's.
Comeon Microsoft, I know you are only in the
certification game for the revenue it produces, but isn't
it about time you done something to make this worthless
paper qualification worth something?
If I wanted to I can log onto TestKing and download all
369 questions for about $69. Shouldn't you have better
security or something. A few years ago, people in India
were paying professional exam-takers to sit their exams
for them. Surely you should be suspicious of anyone
going into an exam and completing it in 10 minutes flat
with a near 100% score.
Call me old fashion, but I believe the only way to pass a
technical exam is to know your subject before hand, and
even if the pass mark is 540 and you get 541, it proves
it is your own work not remembered from a cheat sheet.

Problems with modem
Hi, Anyone able to help on this ?
I upgraded from ME to 2K and re-installed the drivers for
VGA, speakers etc, everything OK then temporarily put in a
lan card to network for a while.
Now lan card out, doesnt show up anywhere on the system
but the modem will no longer work. I've re-installed it
but it keeps showing that it's using IRQ 17 !!!
Not able to set it manually, can't access the setting even
though I went into the Bios to change from auto to manual.
Anyone got any ideas ? It would be a great help

QOD for October 2nd 2003
Robert has been unable to make a connection to one of the file servers on
the network all day. He can ping the server, but cannot make a useful
connection to it. You know that George, one of the administrators, was
looking at increasing security between computers on the network. What could
be the reason that the connection cannot be made?
1.. The server is offline.
2.. The server is configured for a higher minimum SMB signing level than
the client and thus is refusing the connection.
3.. The TCP/IP stack on the server is corrupted.
4.. The DNS cache on the client computer needs to be flushed.
The answer comes tomorrow at...

MCSE exam advice needed
Hi,
I'm pursuing the MCSE 2000 certification and have passed 3, 215,228
and 270.
Apart from taking the other 2 Core exams 216 and 217 I will also be
taking the 224 Exchange server exam.
I would appreciate any advice on what design exam I should study/take
as I do not want to take one that is not going to be useful.
I was thinking of the 226 Web design as there seems to be a lot of
emphasis on Web technology at the moment.

Exam scores
Have Microsoft reverted to giving scores for MCP exams? Somebody I know has
recently started towards MCSE and took the XP Professional exam twice. On
both occasions he was given a score at the end of the exam. I was under the
impression that all the exams were simply PASS/FAIL now.

DNS problems with new active directory home lab
I am studying for the 270 test as my first Microsoft exam. I am
concentrating on XP Pro, but I need to setup a Server 2003 server that will
be the domain controller, and DNS server, then later an RIS server for the
lab.
The lab network is connected to a Linksys router that's connected to a cable
modem. The Linksys also provides DHCP and internet access for the
workstations on the network. I set up the server to have a static address
and it also needs internet access.
I have an XP workstation and a Win2k laptop.
The Win 2k laptop is connected via wireless and when I try to join it to the
domain I am prompted for a user name and password as expected. However, the
XP workstation is connected to the Linksys router via an ethernet cable, and
is unable to see the domain. (I would have expected to have more problems
with the wireless Win2k laptop.)
I was trying various DNS server settings and I can't get the XP Pro
workstation to see the domain controller. I finally formatted the server
and I'll try again later with all the default settings again.
I really did not want to spend so much time configuring the server since I
am just trying to do the workstation exercises for now.
What are the minimum basic steps you need to do with the DNS server setup so
that the computers on the network will be able to resolve the server's host
name and join the AD? It looks like leaving everything at default doesn't
work. Tag: I passed 70-216 today !!! Horay! Tag: 99207

NEW NEWSGROUP PROPOSAL: microsoft.public.cert.exam.comptia
This is a petition to see how many of my fellow microsoft.public.cert.exam.*
newsgroups patrons wish to see a microsoft.public.cert.exam.comptia
newsgroup added to the Microsoft news server.
There's been a bit of a back-and-forth lately over posting questions about
CompTIA exams in MCSA and MCSE-specific newsgroups. Four CompTIA certs are
now accepted as electives for the MCSA and/or MCSE certs. It seems that
Microsoft should add a CompTIA-specific newsgroup to its own news server to
complement the existing alt.certification.a-plus,
alt.certification.i-net-plus, and alt.certification.network-plus public
newsgroups. Such a new newsgroup would be home for all questions about the
CompTIA certs accepted by Microsoft.
Give a reply if you think so or not. Tag: I passed 70-216 today !!! Horay! Tag: 99192

I have already 210, 215 and 216
What do You advise to do next
218 to MCSA and later try 217
or forget that and try only MCSE and do only 217?
