Modify Permission
Modify Permission
Hi! I am studying for the 70-290 exam. I am using MS Press Readiness Review
Suite, among with several other sources.
Yesterday when scrolling through the questions of the MeasureUp?s practice
tests, I found something very, very confusing.
Situation:
We have for example 1 folder. The folder has 2 subfolders. I am a member of
the Gamers group. The group has Modify NTFS permission, assigned to the
parent folder. Can I delete a file in the subfolder? The explanation states,
that I can?t, since the the Modify permission does not include the Delete
Subfolders and Files permission.
Interesting! But he Modify Permission DOES include the Delete permission.
The Delete Subfolders and Files is included only in the Full Control
permission.
Next, when reading the book, I found a scenario, involving the Modify
Permission. And the answer was:
The NTFS Modify permission allows Managers to delete files.
So let?s take a look at Help and Support center:
Modify Permission consists of:
Traverse Folder/Execute File
List Folder/Read Data
Read Attributes
Read Extended Attributes
Create Files/Write Data
Create Folders/Append Data
Write Attributes
Write Extended Attributes
Delete
Read Permissions
And
Delete Subfolders and Files - Allows or denies deleting subfolders and
files, even if the Delete permission has not been granted on the subfolder
or file. (Applies to folders.)
Delete - Allows or denies deleting the file or folder. If you do not have
Delete permission on a file or folder, you can still delete it if you have
been granted Delete Subfolders and Files on the parent folder.
So please if someone could explain what is wrong and what is right. Tag: learning mcse Tag: 154389

new exams not for MCP
http://mcpmag.com/news/rss.asp?editorialsid=755
Interesting. the article states:
**One unique feature of these exams is that none of them will earn those
who pass them a Microsoft Certified Professional designation. The
Microsoft Learning group has not responded to numerous requests to
comment about these exams, but, according to the exam objective guides,
these exams fall under what's called "Partner Competency" exams. The
guides define these types of exams as those that "validate that
individuals in a partner environment are efficient and capable of
deploying multifaceted IT solutions to their customer with skills across
multiple Microsoft products and technologies." **
could this mean that MS now wants capable people vs evangelists?

70-270 Question
Hi Folks
I have just passed the 70-270 exam with a decent score
and I reckon i got about 4-5 questions wrong on the
actual exam. I was stuck for a while on one particular
question and if I admit i hadnt covered in my test lab I
was using to practise before the exam. I have since tried
to find out the answer and have found conflicting
responses to the question. The question goes something
like - "you need to let a user add 150 workstations to a
domain without giving unnecessary privliges"
Some people say you "use the delegation of control wizard
to grant the user" and others say "give the user the add
workstations to a domain user right"
Can anyone clear this up
Thanks Tag: learning mcse Tag: 154193

Tuesday, November 16, 2004 The Columbus Dispatch
The flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada
has intensified in the past week, sparking calls for increased patrols
to stop the illegal immigration. The re-election of President Bush is
prompting the exodus among left leaning citizens who fear they'll soon
be required to hunt, and agree with Bill O'Reilly.
Canadian border farmers say it's not uncommon to see dozens of sociology
professors, animal rights activists and Unitarians crossing their fields
at night. "I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a
Hollywood producer huddled in the barn," said Manitoba farmer Red
Greenfield, whose acreage borders North Dakota. The producer was cold,
exhausted and hungry. "He asked me if I could spare a latte and some
free-range. When I said I didn't have any, he left. Didn't even get a
chance to show him my screenplay, eh?"
In an effort to stop the illegal aliens, Greenfield erected fences, but
the liberals scaled them. So he tried installing speakers that blare
Rush Limbaugh across fields. "Not real effective," he said. "The
liberals still got through, and Rush annoyed the cows so much they
wouldn't give milk."
Officials are particularly concerned about smugglers who meet near the
Canadian border, pack them into Volvo station wagons, drive them across
the border and leave them to fend for themselves. "A lot of these people
are not prepared for rugged conditions" an Ontario border patrolman
said. "I found one carload without a drop of drinking water. They did
have a nice little Napa Valley cabernet, though." When liberals are
caught, they're sent back across the border, wailing loudly that they
fear retribution from conservatives. Rumors have been circulating about
the Bush administration establishing re-education camps in which
liberals will be forced to drink domestic beer and watch NASCAR.
In the days since the election, liberals have turned to sometimes
ingenious ways of crossing the border. Some have taken to posing as
senior citizens on bus trips to buy cheap Canadian prescription drugs.
After catching a half-dozen young vegans disguised in powdered wigs,
Canadian immigration authorities began stopping buses and quizzing the
supposed senior-citizen passengers. "If they can't identify the
accordion player on The Lawrence Welk Show, we get suspicious about
their age," an official said. Canadian citizens have complained that the
illegal immigrants are creating an organic-broccoli shortage and renting
all the good Susan Sarandon movies. "I feel sorry for American liberals,
but the Canadian economy just can't support them," an Ottawa resident
said. ''How many art-history majors does one country need?"
In an effort to ease tensions between the United States and Canada, Vice
President Dick Cheney met with the Canadian ambassador and pledged that
the administration would take steps to reassure liberals, a source close
to Cheney said "We're going to have some Peter, Paul & Mary concerts.
And we might put some endangered species on postage stamps. The
president is determined to reach out." Tag: learning mcse Tag: 153943

A timeless lesson on how consultants can make a difference for an
organization.
Last week, we took some friends out to a new restaurant, and noticed that
the waiter who took our order carried a spoon in his shirt pocket. It seemed
a little strange. When the busboy brought our water and utensils, I noticed
he also had a spoon in his shirt pocket. Then I looked around saw that all
the staff had spoons in their pockets.
When the waiter came back to serve our soup I asked, "Why the spoon?"
"Well, "he explained, "the restaurant's owners hired Andersen Consulting
to revamp all our processes. After several months of analysis, they
concluded
that the spoon was the most frequently dropped utensil. It represents a drop
frequency of approximately 3 spoons per table per hour. If our personnel are
better
prepared, we can reduce the number of trips back to the kitchen and save 15
man-hours per shift."
As luck would have it, I dropped my spoon and he was able to replace it with
his spare.
"I'll get another spoon next time I go to the kitchen instead of making an
extra trip to get it right now."
I was impressed. I also noticed that there was a string hanging out of the
waiter's fly. Looking around, I noticed that all the waiters had the same
string hanging from their flies. So before he walked off, I asked the
waiter, "Excuse me, but can you tell me why you have that string right
there?"
"Oh, certainly!" Then he lowered his voice. "Not everyone is so observant.
That consulting firm I mentioned also found out that we can save time in the
restroom. By tying this string to the tip of you know what, we can pull it
out without touching it and eliminate the need to wash our hands, shortening
the time spent in the restroom by 76.39 percent.
I asked "After you get it out, how do you put it back?"
"Well," he whispered, "I don't know about the others, but I use the spoon." Tag: learning mcse Tag: 153849
