NT4.0 1999 vintage MCSE - Am I still certified?
I know that I can upgrade my certification but I don't want to do that, I
just need to know where I can find out whether my MCSE certification is still
valid. Searching around the microsoft sites seems to imply that the

PrepLogic Practice Exams
Anyone else have experience with the preplogic practice exams compared to the
actual exam?
I'm doing a self study through ther cds and material. I am finding that the
things covered on the cd often don't match the type of questions on the
practice exams.
There questions tend to be very specific and detailed, where in the
material, it is more general.

To look at, it's not much. Just a series of numbers. No meaning, nothing
really!
70-297, there I said it again. 70-297 <twitches slightly>. 70-29 bloody 7.
This exam is driving me insane (not to mention the expense, which I can't
afford). As you can guess, 70-297 eluded me again today. Is there a
worldwide quota on the number of passes that M$ allocate for this exam, and
if so, has it been reached?
I've now added Sybex's 70-297 study guide (by Brad Price) to my ever growing
list of prep materials aquired for this exam. This book covered new ground,
material that was not covered (in depth) by the M$ material, and in general
I thought, yeah, a good read, with good material.
So, to recap, thats 2282, Self-paced training kit, Self-test, Measure-Up,
Sybex 70-297, years of practical (real world) experience and no 70-297 exam
pass.
So the quest goes on! I'm starting to ask myself though, is it worth the
effort. Which I know is negative talk, but hey, I'm coming to the conclusion
that this exam is more about persistence than anything technical or design
related.

Solid State Hard Drive Compatibility
Hello All,
I have a 16 GB Solid State Hard Drive and for some reason after a couple of
weeks when I reboot it goes to a blinking cursor in the top left corner or
sometimes it will give an error like NTLDR missing or corrupt. Here is the
scoop on the config and what I have done up to this point.
16 GB Solid State Hard Drive IDE connector
Windows XP SP2 all up to date
Used FDisk
Used Format Utility
Used a couple different Windows Disks
Used a couple different 16 and 8 GB Solid State Flash Drives
Used a couple of different mother boards
All the above leads to the same failures, It may take a little longer in
some cases but at this point the verdict is the same. Thank you for your

suggestion for exam path
I need some suggestions for an exam path. I was going to take the 290, 291,
then the XP (270) course to start with.
I have been studying with some cd materials and found on the 290 they hardly
cover IIS at all and the practice exams list several questions I know
nothing about or are things they never covered in the material.
So I need to know if I should be taking/studying for the XP test first?? I

Exchange Exam 70-236
So, I will have to study for, and presumably pass, 70-236 sometime soon.
Normally when I study for an exam I start with the MS-Press book available
and after that whatever I feel I need, but in this case the MS-Press book
isn't available yet (http://www.microsoft.com/MSPress/books/10936.aspx).
For those of you who have taken this exam, which books did you use to learn
what you neeed to pass the exam?
And where they useful in teaching you what you neeed to administer Exchange
2007?
Our project team will soon be dumping day to day administration on my team
and I would like to feel comfortable with the changes from 5.5/2003...

for the first time and I don't understand how to even go about registering
on their site? Do I register? I would assume it would be SIMILAR at least to

Can you read the questions before reading the scenario? I heard it
doesn't count against your time..
Any techniques for taking notes? It seems like as you go through the
scenario, jotting down key points so you don't have to go hunting back
for them...
I haven't bought any but is the Transcender for this any good? $125
seems so steep. I'm not even sure if they are considered an illegal
braindump, but I've heard the explanations of the questions are
useful.
And any other advise for passing. I've heard its tough, requires

HT: Does the MCSE 2003 exams cover SP2 and or R2?
This question has been asked not only in this newsgroup but in others as
well. My friend Rob Linsky at Microsoft emailed me to give you the 411.
He wrote:
The answer is sort of and no. We stripped out all the content in the
exams that was rendered obsolete by SP2 but did not seed in any content
specifically for SP2. Same with R2 - we took out anything that was no
longer valid but did not add any R2-specific content in. We typically
handle service packs and "dot" releases this way as many customers take
a long time to implement and/or use the updates.

Donna (if it is their real names) as they are not even our customers (at
least they did not buy using the above emails while buying).

New to this
I know im going to get a lot of grief, but im about to be out of the Military

Semi-OT: Monitor Man MCSE
Remember I told you about the guy at our London office who swapped out
someone's monitor just because the display was upside down? He got the
nickname "Monitor Man" in our office.
Well, this same guy is now an MCSE after attending a 2-week bootcamp.
There is an upside to this story. According to our IT manager, the guy was
having problems connecting to a PC this morning. He was able to ping other
computers on the same subnet as the "rogue" PC fine, but not this particular
PC. After some head-scratching, he admitted defeat and asked his manager
for help. The problem? You guessed it - a loose network cable!
At least our boss now knows that MCSE's not worth the paper it's written on
LOL!

Archive certificates in binder
Hello,
I want to archive my certificates in a binder. Here in germany it is
impossible to get some document protectors in US-letter size. The only
thing would be to order them from the US. But not all online stores are
shipping outside USA and when they do, then I have to pay horrible shipping
costs.
Does someone have an idea where to get those here in germany? We usually
use DIN-A4 format, so US-Letter does not fit until I cut off about 5mm.

I recently Acheived MCSA 2000 but would like to go ahead and get MCSE 2000
as that was my original goal to begin with.
I just passed the 70-219 design exam, but i think i should have enough for
the MCSE
This is what i have
MCSA: 70-210,70-215,70-218,MCDST
then
70-216, 70-219 this completes the core + core elective
for the electives:
70-244, and here is where i don't know if i'm ok or not
I took the 70-621 exam to upgrade the mcdst to mcitp: Enterprise Support
Technician which covers MCTS: Windows Vista Configuration (70-620) so i
didn't actually take the 70-620 exam.
Microsoft recently updated the requirements page but it could take a while
before any of this shows up on my transcript or in the cert planner (not
updated)

Hi group,
for it is you that I come to seek advice (constructive only please!).
Today, I yet again prayed to the 70-297 gods, and after consideration, they
did decline my prayers. This is mildly frustrating as I have taken the
70-297 prayer course (2282), and read the official (MS) 70-297 self-paced
praying kit (many thanks Walter and Michael), I have taken the prayer test
exams, kindly provided by Self Test and MeasureUp and still the MCSE gods do
not shine upon my patch.
I do not wish to follow the wrong path I.e. Braindumps et al, so it is you
wise people I now turn. I feel I know my stuff and could provide a Sunday
morning service on the merits / de-merits of 70-297. I wish to make the
70-297 exam mine upon my next encounter, so your help and advise are much
needed.

MCSA on 2000, Upgrade Path to MCSE 2003?
Greetings all,
I currently hold an MCSA on Windows 2000, and am currently reading
through the material to take the upgrade exam to get my 2003 MCSA.
My question is this: Where does that leave me in terms of eventually
earning my 2003 MCSE as well?
Does passing the MCSA upgrade exam count as having passed 4 Server
2003 exams for the purposes of accumulating the 7 needed for an MCSE?
Or will Microsoft tell me "Congrats on your 2003 MCSA, now start over
from scratch."?
In case it matters, the exams that I have passed thus far are 210,

MS Press self-paced training 70-290
I'm a long-time IT professional, but with relatively little experience with
Windows. I'm interested in studying for MCSE. I bought a copy of the MS
Press self-paced training kit for 70-290. The first exercise was to install
Windows Server 2003 SP1 with the evaluation copy that was provided. One of
the steps was to obtain automatic updates over the Internet. When I did
this, it installed SP2. When I proceeded to the configuration process, the
screens looked considerably different than shown in the book. I tried to
work my way through it anyway but was quite unsure if I was doing it right.
In frustration, I returned the training kit to the seller. But I'm
wondering if I'm missing something simple. I there an SP2 version availablr
of this course? Or, can I bypass installing SP2 but still get other needed
updates?
I would really appreciate any advice on this. The self-paced kits seem like
a cost-effective way to learn the stuff, but I'm reluctant to spend too much
