Ok lets stop right here. In a 2k domain you can have a PDC _emulator_
(see FSMO roles) but there is no such thing as a BDC.

next up, are you using a name or a number with ping? have you tried to
use a net view command to see what error you get? are you trying to
access Windows Shares or the web pages? Are there any messages in event
viewer?

I always use static addresses for servers. If you want to use dynamic
updaets for DNS, fine, whatever. My preference is to allow this so that
any additional services are correctly registred in DNS...
