lol still wouldnt have fixed the corrupted DLL32.exe file... I bought that
card last summer... was all I could afford... was better than the onboard
POS I had before... haven't got my first paycheque yet... the whole system
needs replacing anyway so I will probably go that route instead :P

That has been known to happen. Hence, why Mr. Rowdy "Shtick" Yates patches
only when it's a matter of life and death. (excluding critical security
patches!).

Forgive me for saying it, but I can't recall last time that anyone
recommended installing drivers for any hardware based on the Windows Update,
SPs, and MS fixes, yes, other non MS software, never, it's being well
documented in articles on and off the Web.

Thank you,

I sometimes use Microsoft print drivers for HP printers instead of HP's
own print drivers - cause they are easier to mass deploy.

what do you have to say to that, Mr. J. "Non-Microsoft-driver" Figueredo?

hmm....?

no one said it was recommended anywhere... show me where I said I was
recommended? I have done a lot of driver updates from MS... sometimes it is
easier when you consider what devices are out there... if the OEM is no
longer in existance, where do you propose you get the drivers? From the
local Mcdonald's drive thru? I have also gone to the OEM sites before and
found very outdated software because they do not keep such information up to
day with the current OS's out there... so again... local McD's? I was lazy
tonight and paid for it... hence the reason I was LAUGHING at myself and
thought I would share my adventure with the group for a little fun and a
good laugh at my expense...

so get off your high horse... sheeesh

Everyone ELSE could see I was laughing at myself and took a bit of fun out
of my experience... I guess you are just not that observant to the
subtleties of humans..

I feel for you, really I do.

My experience with MS Updates was about the same. I had gone to MS Big Day
where they touted, "Always do Updates" and all the big viruses were going
around, and MS was saying, "Yeah we fixed that in an update, and if you
didn't run it, then it is your fault" So I decided, OK, I have this XP box
which has run flawlessly since the day I intalled it 5 months prior, but I
haven't done any updates, so I will update it. I went to MS Update and did
all the Patches and Security fixes, NO drivers, and rebooted. When I came
back up, my backup software would not run, and I could not print. It took
me a couple of days, and trying to do restore until I finally just said, the
hell with it, and reformatted that partition, and reloaded windows. Now it
started working, but I cringe everytime I go to update a system.
