MCSE 4.0 to MCSE 2000

does the MCSE NT4 certification satisfy the elective
requirements?

"Dear users of News.Individual.NET,
effective from April 1th, 2005, use of News.Individual.NET will
not be free of charge anymore. The news service will continue as
a fee-based service."
Got this email yesterday. Don't know how many of you access your NGs through
this (great) server, but it's going to become a pay service (10 Euros/year,
which I think is like 13 bucks or something). For those of you too cheap to
pay, and too limited by your ISP's server, there's news.aioe.org. (please to
be click news://news.aioe.org). Couple of guys over in the Red Sox newsgroup
are raving about it (it allows munging!). So, if you're a cheapo like me,
milk news.individual.net for the next month, then switch over to this one.
You can thank me later.

Computer Based Training Advised - Learnkey vs Testout
Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone has used learnkey or test out and how they rated
them for training for MCSE or other (MCSA, Comptia A+, Network+ Cisco etc) -
I am just tossing up which of these to go for and am leaning heavily towards
Testout because of a great package price they're doing - so convince me of

Flushing the System

This is my favorite Tech Tale... With over 10 years of tech support under my
belt, I keep using this one to 'prove' that nothing is impossible.
While doing support for a mail-order computer company, one of my calls went
like this:
Me: tech support, how can I help you? Customer: Every time I flush my
toilet, my computer reboots.
Me: (pause)
Me: Excuse me?
Customer: Every time I flush my toilet, my computer reboots.
I spent a couple of minutes working along the lines of "if you want help,
you have to tell me what's wrong.", but the customer kept insisting that was
the problem.
The cause: Customer lived on a rural farm, and had low power on the utility
lines. Add that to an electric water pump, and every time he flushed the
toilet, the pump would kick in, power would sag even more, and... *poof*
computer reboot...

70-290 Information Conflict
After a few months preparing for the 70-290 exam, I find
myself spending more time verifying the accuracy of
information rather than studying. Among them are:
1)Microsoft Press XP Training kit states:
By default, when you format a volume with NTFS, the Full
Control permission is assigned to the Everyone group.
Testing this on several XP machines with different SPs, I
always come up with Everyone: traverse folder, read
attributes, read extended attributes and read applied to
this folder only.
2)Windows XP Resource Kit States:
In Windows XP Professional and Windows 2000, both dial-up
and VPN connections can use MS-CHAPv2. Windows NT 4.0,
Windows 98, and Windows 95-based computers can only use
MS-CHAPv2 authentication for VPN connections.
Windows XP help states:
MS-CHAP v2 is supported by computers running Windows XP,
Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, and
Windows NT 4.0. For computers running Windows 95, MS-CHAP
v2 is only supported for VPN connections, not for dial-up
connections.
Could someone please tell what is correct and what
Microsoft uses as its reference for test questions.

70-292 - Anybody have any suggestions?
Hi,
MCSE 2000 Upgradeing to 2003
I just took an 70-292 MCSE upgrade exam for the third time. The first time
I got 650, the second time 550. I went through the entire Microsoft
curriculum. I wasted $100 for Microsoft's WORTHLESS "Upgrading Your
Certification to Windows Server 2003", going through the entire book and all
the labs. When I took it the third time, the score was also 550. I feel
like I answered almost all of the questions correctly. Then I get this crap
about how "Some questions may not be counted, others are for
testing/development purposes, blah blah, blah". How the hell do I know what
is counted and what is not? This doesn't seem ethical here. It is
incomprehensible to me that I have spent 4 months preparing for this exam and
$375 down the tubes and I can't even get any feedback on waht I missed, if I
missed. How do we even know if the exam results are processed correctly or
ethically if we can't get any feedback on anything? 70-292 bites. Anyone
else have these problems? Can you suggest better study material than
Microsoft's WORTHLESS crap? They can make the exam but they can't produce
any training material that covers it. C.G. Tag: OT: It's Pining Tag: 158369
Exam Preps
Hi all,
Great these newsgroups exist :)
But to come to exam preps, i fixed myself several different exam prep
programs
When testing exams with Preplogic, i managed to have a average of 80%
correct answers..horay!
So i thought im ready to take the change to do exam, but not sure about
myself i fixed CramMaster exam prep, to make sure i do have what it takes to
make the exams.
And what happens? doing some tests with CramMaster i only get like 35% of
the questions answered...they are really different how they ask them, and
what they ask, they even ask you to put all steps in correct order to reset
a computer account password.. etc.. bah...
Just for your information when desiding which software to buy.. remember
they are very different.

Become a Reseller
I am an MCSE in Windows 2000. I have not had much luck finding a job in the
current IT market and I am very close to starting my own Business. I was
wondering if anyone knew where I could get more information on how to become
a Reseller for Microsoft Software. Also, Since both of the guys that will be
starting this business with me are also Microsoft Certified, Where can I get
information that will explain any help, support or possible benefits that I
might be entitled to from Microsoft for having a completley certified
workshop. We plan on providing repair and support for Home users and small to
media size businesses, possibly expanding into Web design, and hopefully
become a local Microsoft Reseller. Tag: OT: It's Pining Tag: 158264

Passed 70-216!
Just passed by the skin of my teeth, with a score of 700 exactly!
Much harder than I expected, loads of questions on multicasting, which I
know the basics of, but not to the detail asked in the exam, i.e. setting it
up through a router that doesn't support multicasting.
I took the 2153 course last week, and multicasting was only briefly
mentioned, nothing on troubleshooting and managing it!
Another question was on DNS & Round Robin!? As far as I knew that was
something to do with betting on horses!
Also have the Mike Meyers 70-216 certification book and an exam prep book
and I can't find anything about round robin in them, had to google the term
after!
Anyway, at least its another exam passed, just means I have a lot of post
exam studying to do!

Non-Tech, But Industry Related Questions
Hey guys,
I've posted here a few times, but had no real questions to ask until
today...mainly because I'm somewhat adept at finding answers to
technical questions myself...but the question(s) I have stray from the
mundane "WHER ECAN I FIND BRAINDUMPZ 4 TEH MCSE EXAMS!!!!!!!11" that
seem to flood this place, so at the risk of being flamed, I'll ask anyway.
The place I'm working at is great for the most part, but there are a few
issues that have really been plaguing me, especially when I've had time
to dwell on them, such as on the commute home today...
a) I've noticed a few EU's as of late wanting me to just drop everything
I'm doing to take care of their problem, and are completely
ignorant/indifferent of the fact that what I may currently be doing
might be just a bit more important than cleaning the spyware off of
their computer so they're not getting pop-ups or configuring MSN so
it'll work on their *WORK*station (it's called that for a reason, folks.)
b) I've been asked to start installing software on our business
machines, which I find of questionable origin or legitimacy because the
head office is too cheap to pay for REAL licensing. I already alluded to
the doubt as to whether it's legit software or not, and was promptly
assured by our site manager that it was all legit and had proper
licenses and everything...though for some reason, she was adamant that I
use the same key on all the PC's, and not register the product, which is
what aroused my suspicion...that, and the fact that last I checked,
Windows wasn't distributed on Maxell CD's with the key written on them
in permanent marker. :p
c) The computers we use have to be at least 6 years out of date, yet
it's expected of us ("us" being ME) to deal with the equipment, and
subsequent problems due to its sheer age and horrible mistreatment over
the years.
d) We have Windows 2000 servers, yet they INSIST on us using our
computers in a workgroup-type environment because it involves less
"administrative overhead" (which both you and I know is a crock - then
again, I suppose MY staying after work on a consistent basis is less
"overhead", as far as they're concerned), and as a result, another big
thing I've been facing from EU's is the fact that they get refused
access to the server a lot. Sorry folks, but thanks to the whole
peer-to-peer idea, you're not all getting access. First come, first served.
My big question is...how would you broach this stuff to your boss? I'm
worried about the fact that I'll get the "you don't like it, there's the
door", speech...but at the same time, I know people who've actually
ended up taken to court because they installed pirated software for
their company and ended up being held liable for it. I really have no
idea what to do here. :( Tag: OT: It's Pining Tag: 158168

That some people on this board are talking to themselves? It just seams that
