How to access MCP site?
Hello. I just passed exam 70-270 and tried to access the site using
the exam registration number from my score report, but it says it's
invalid. How can I get access to the site?
Thanks,

prometric vs. VUE
Just a quick ? concerning the differences. Is there any
in the two tests of 70-215? I have taken all my tests via
prometric and was curious if there are any big
differences, or do the tests look the same and cover the
same material.

question regarding 70-216
After having been dorment for 18 months, I have finally found the motivation
to finish the MCSE 2000 certification, as I have set my eyes to upgrading to
2003.
So, here's a question regarding the exams that I am yet to do.
I have done 70-210 and 70-215 which I found were a breeze. 70-217 I found
not much harder. I am currently 70-216, which sounds like a very hard exam
to pass. Those of you who have sat 70-216 recently: how hard is it? I am no
newby, but an MCSE + I with a solid 5 years experience as network admin, and
have worked with Active Directory and Windows 2000 for a year now.
I have been contemplaiting doing 70-219 to finish off my MCSE qualification.
How does that rate?
Your input would be very much appreciated. Many thanks.

OT Dell Certs
Lets see if anyone here can read English and answer a simple question.
Has anyone done the Dell certs? My boss is pestering me to do them because
he hates dealing with them for support but to be honest I don't see the
point.
To shut the moron up I am willing to do them but don't want to invest too
much time in a worthless vendor specific cert.
So to recap has anyone done them, how difficult are they, and are they worth
it? Tag: Ping Ken Briscoe Tag: 101549
moving and copying encrypted files
I find this a bit confusing when I play with it.
I know that when a file goes to FAT volume it loses encryption.
When something is put into encrypted folder it gets/stays encrypted.
I remember seeing somewhere an exception for moving a file within the same
volume.
The resource kit says that if you drag and drop encryption is not automatic
(unencrypted file going into encrypted folder) -- when I do it seems to
encrypt (sp3 applied).
is there a good and simple reference on this? Tag: Ping Ken Briscoe Tag: 101513

I'm working on my MCSE certification. I'm already MCP certified and I'm

maybe some web-based application development. Should I finish the MCSE or
should I just jump into learning programming languages and get certified in

OT: My local ISP Tech support - incompetence at it's very best
I had an issue saturday night... 0x800CCC0E error... no big deal. Tried to
call Tech Support to find out estimated time of repair. Got send to voice
mail... got "Mailbox is full". Email came back up. Sent complaint to tech
support. I had posted the appropriate MS KB Article 191687 for reference
purposes... article states the following error:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'your_account',
Server:'your_SMTP_server', Protocol:SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): NO, Socket
error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800ccc0e Similarly, when you start the e-mail
client or try to receive a message from your Post Office Protocol version 3
(POP3) server, you may receive the following error:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'your_account',
Server:'your_POP3_server', Protocol:POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): NO, Socket
error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800ccc0e
The "tech" wrote back with the following reply:
The error message that you sent in states that you have the server names for
the email account "your_account" entered as "your_POP3_server" and
"your_SMTP_server". These should be..... (correct settings)
The funny part is (and I will explain it to those of you who do NOT see the
obvious problem) that my settings were correct and I was NOT using the error
message I receive in my mail client but the verbatim came from MS Web Site
and this tech could not see this even though I stated that I had a problem
"which is described as follows by Microsoft:..."
I doubt I will be applying for a job with these guys anytime soon if this is
the standard they live up to. ATTENTION TO DETAIL folks.
Stupid thing was, I just wanted to find out how long... when it came back up
I wanted them to know I was dissatisfied with being told the mailbox was
FULL!! He did not address my concerns at all!!
Braindumper perhaps???? I'm suspecting so... incompetent at the very least.

219 Failed :o(
Failed this exam earlier after passing all 6 others previously!
Absolutely gutted!
My last exam 221... Designing Network Infrastructure gave me a pass mark and my
score, this one didn't.
Also this exam was structured differently. I didn't get the survey at the
start but more importantly it completely threw me when after the first case
study it looked like it was ending the whole exam! The last one just went onto
the next case study and let me go back if I remembered something.
I also heard that Balwin Museum is a killer if you get it, yep I got it for my
fisrt case study and it completely buggered me up! It IS a killer! Probably
what I failed on... apart from an obvious lack of knowledge!
Does anyone know if it is possible to contact Microsoft or VUE to get the score
or weak knowledge areas to help me study for the next attempt?
Many thanks

IPSec Question
Hi all
Currently studying for my 70-216 exam and I am getting
stuck on IPSec.
I have implemented the the secure server via group policy
(using the default domain policy). I thought by
implementing IPSec this way it would ensure IPSec
communications amongst all my PC's on my test network.
However, once implemented, no computers can communicate
with each other?
Furthermore, I don't understand why it only seems possible
to have one IPSec policy via group policies. e.g. you can
only assign one policy.
How would you then, for example, require secure access to
a file server, require unsecured access between some PC's
and secure access between particular PC's in the domain
(all PC's are using DHCP for IP address assignment)
Any recommendations to resources for IPSec would also be
appreciated.
Thanks

Transcript Question
Does anyone know how the online transcript tool will react
to these new certifications?
ie. I will be taking me last MCSA exam this week having
done 210, 215, 216 and 218, however on my way to MCSE I
will be doing 224 which is a MCSA Messaging Elective.
Will the transcript tool update my MCSA cert to Messaging

How To Turn $6 into $6,000
HOW TO TURN $6 INTO $6,000!!!!!!
READING THIS COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE! PLEASE READ ALL!
I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while back, I
was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and came across an
article similar to this that said you could make thousands of dollars within
weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought, Yeah right, this
must be a scam, but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway,
it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated in the
article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at
#6, and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups.
(There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and
talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured: what have
I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00, right? Then I invested the measly
$6.00. Well GUESS WHAT!!...
within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I
figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my
first week, I made about $25.00. By the end of the second week I had made
a total of over $1,000.00! In the third week I had over
$10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week and I
have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's still coming in
rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I have spent more
than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how this works and most
importantly, why it works....Also, make sure you print a copy of this
article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you need it.
I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, that you
will start making more money than you thought possible by doing
something so easy!
Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (print it out or
download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come
in!
It's easy. It's legal. And, your investment is only $6.00 (Plus
postage)
IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not
illegal; and it is virtually no risk - it really works!!!!
If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will receive
extraordinary dividends.
PLEASE NOTE:
Please follow these directions EXACTLY, and $50,000 or more can be
yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful because of
the honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue its
success by carefully adhering to the instructions.
You will now become part of the Mail Order business. In this business
your product is not solid and tangible, it's a service. You are in
the business of developing Mailing Lists. Many large corporations are
happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However, the money made
from the mailing lists is secondary to the income which is made from
people like you and me asking to be included in that list.
Here are the 4 easy steps to success:
STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on
each piece of paper ;PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST.
Now get 6 US $1.00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so
the bill will not be seen through the envelope (to prevent
thievery). Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal
them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of
paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a $1.00
bill. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY
LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for
it! Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried
about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S.
Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed
legal! Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses:
#1) Kevin Lee
8377 APT. l Montgomery Run Rd.
Ellicott City MD 21043
#2) Stephanie Hicks
1283 Evening Canyon
Henderson NV 89014
#3) Matt Madracki
P.O. Box 1529
Sutton West, Ontario
L0E 1R0
#4) Ryan Tucker
301 Royal Oaks Blvd. Apt. 3105
Franklin, TN 37067
#5) Bryan Payne
157 Oates Ave, Holland Park
Brisbane, Queensland,
Australia 4121
#6)Clayton Carter
1553 Pughs Store Rd.
Afton VA 22920
STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move
the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc...) and add YOUR Name as
number 6 on the list.
STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as
close to original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at
least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000 groups) All
you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you make!
This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to Title 18
Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal lottery laws.
Keep a copy of these steps for yourself and, whenever you need money, you can
use it again, and again.
PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because of the honesty and
integrity of the participants and by their carefully
adhering to the directions. Look at it this way. If you are of
integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many
others have received will come your way.
NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you,
either on a computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you.
This VERIFIES that you are truly providing a service. (Also, it might
be a good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the risk of
mail theft.)
So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed,
six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a List
Developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list
geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position you will
be receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!! What an opportunity for
only $6.00 ($1.00 for each of the first six people listed above) Send
it now, add your own name to the list and you're in business! Tag: Ping Ken Briscoe Tag: 101427

Im currently trying to decide which tests I would like to take from the =
ones that you are given a choice in for MCSE. I have looked on the =
internet and this news group for some information but wasn't able to =

I know the 4 core ones I will take (not like you have much of a choice)
For the 4 core I am going to do Exam 70-210, Exam 70-215, Exam 70-216 =
and Exam 70-217
Now the ones im trying to decide is between:
Exam 70-219: Designing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services =
Infrastructure=20
OR
Exam 70-221: Designing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure =
OR
Exam 70-297: Designing a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active =
Directory and Network Infrastructure
The issue with these is Im not quite sure what the difference is =
between 219 and 221. Also, im not sure if I should go for 297 so I have =
a 2003 cert under my belt
Finally I have narrowed the electives down to:
Exam 70-218: Managing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Environment
Exam 70-219: Designing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services =
Infrastructure=20
Exam 70-221: Designing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure
Exam 70-223: Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft =
Clustering Services by Using Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Exam 70-232: Implementing and Maintaining Highly Available Web =
Solutions with Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Technologies and Microsoft =
Application Center 2000
Exam 70-234: Designing and Implementing Solutions with Microsoft =
Commerce Server 2000
If I currently wanting to go into web development programming (for .NET, =
Java, Visual Basic, C++ ect. of which I don't know yet, will be going to =
college in a year also for my BS) and also administration of a network =
what's the general opinion of the path that would probably fit my goals =
best?

291,70-293,70-294) and 6 CDs. Bookpool is selling it for $92.75 plus
free shipping and lists it only has 4 CDs, but I wonder if it's because
Sybex lists the 2 CDs at its site as bonus CDs? I have the Sybex book
for the 70-270 exam and I like the way it lists out the exam objectives
and goes through them in each chapter. Do Sybex books go indepth
enough for the exams? I'm taking a class at a technical college and we
used MSPress' "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Academic Learning
Series" book last semester for 70-270. As I started talking practice
tests, I realized that this book did not go into things asked on the
practice tests. Is there any book representative of what's on the
exams out there?
I would like recommendations for cheap and good practice exam software.
Transcenders is nice, but they want $130 for 150 questions! Give me a
break!

Any exchange server 2000 expert here?
Hi,
I have some issues with my exchange server 2000
1. Spam issue
Whenever I checked the "Allow all computers which successfully authenicate
to relay, regardless the list above", spammer would able to hack in the
exchange server and send out ten thoursands of spam using my exchange
server.
I am not sure why that is happening because the options I checked require
computers to be authenicated before the relay.
The reason I check this box is because I have a few branch offices relay on
my exchange server to send emails. And some locations won't have a static
IP, so I can't really specify a certain range of IP addresses to relay.
I finally bought a firewall and setup vpn connections from those remote
offices and mobile laptops clients in order to relay the exchange server.
Out of curiousity, how did the spammer authenicate to my exchange server in
the first place?
2. Email issue.
When a staff send email to the distribution list from the global address
book. One of the individual is having problem getting the email. The error
message is below and some of the information like name, IP and domain info
are modified. When I tried to send email to this individual instead of
using the distribution list and he has no problem getting my emails. I
wonder why. I hope someone is able to help me. Thanks

Little help with 70-226 study please
The book I'm using does not seem to explain the relationship between NLBing
and Clusters. I know I can have up to 4 nodes in a cluster and I know there
can be up to 32 host on a NLB so it seems obvious to me that NLBing is not
restricted to a cluster. So how would one NLB across mutable clusters? Also
I was wondering if it would be possible in theory to NLB as individual
groups by putting a proxy server in front of each cluster and just NLB
across the proxies and have 128 host under the NLB?
Thanks
