Well, I took the 70-270 exam yesterday and passed it with a score of 861.

I did a little informal survey of the scores reported in here. Of the 18
reported scores I found, the average score was 783 including the failing
scores reported. (The average of the 14 passing scores reported is 815)
So I am pretty proud of myself.

I feel I would have done much better if I had studied the Microsoft Self-
Paced Training Kit instead of that darn ExamCram2 book. The retail price
of the Microsoft book is only $30 higher. Only about $10 higher if you
compare 'used' copies from Amazon. Definitely worth the extra money.

There are a lot of questions on the test about using a WinXP machine as
an IIS server in various ways. They even specify that there are 50 or so
PC's on a network and then ask you about configuring an XP Pro machine as
a server of some sort. Now, an astute reader will know that this will
never work because you can only have 10 PC's attached to an XP machine at
any one time but they completely glossed over that bit. And you have to
answer the question as if there were no limit or assuming that only 10 or
fewer people would ever connect at one time.

I also found many questions that were definitely not covered by the
ExamCram2 book. I had to just guess on them. When in doubt my strategy is
go go with the answer that puts Microsoft in the best light or
demonstrates some 'feature' that I know Microsoft is trying to promote.

I used the second edition version of the ms press book, Minasi's
mastering book, the reskit (available online at ms site), and additional
articles in the knowledge base and technet. More importantly, I used the
180day eval version of XP that came with the book to check everything
out. Passed with 984 earlier this month.

When you go to purchase books for future exams, look at reviews at amazon
and barnes and noble and the like to find out what success others have
had with them. Also, try to remember that MS is testing whether you have
a thorough understanding of the product so they will naturally want you
to know about all the features. Whether you decide they are useful in
the real-world is not relevant to the exam.

Congrats. It is worth saying though, that the way the exams are built,
they are functionally pass/fail. The score reported really does not
matter too much. Some one who scored lower, in theory, could have gotten
more items correct, but had easier items.

I hate it when silly stuff like this leaks into the exams.

Having been intimately involved in exams for years, I can tell you that
this does not happen. There are no forces at MS that say "We better talk
about ARS on the exam because it is new." Rather, exam writers are given
lists of tasks that the target audience performs (these are obtained
from surreys and focus groups) and the tasks are mapped to technologies.
Exam item writers are give a task area and asked to write X number of
questions on each item. (You have no idea how hard it is to write 5
questions on one technology that are all different. I have seen very
smart people struggle with this).

Exam item writers are basically given the same information your are and
the authors of books are given: the exam prep sheet.

Congratulations!

I plan to take this exam next week. Been studying like there's no tomorrow.
I've used several resources including the exam cram2 book and the exam cram2
test booklet with the measure up practice tests. I have a few general
questions:

Are the exam questions adaptive or multiple choice?

Any SP2 related questions?

How many questions?

Thanks.

Well, you are asking two different questions here. I don't think the test
was adaptive because it said there were a specific number of questions
and that's how many there were.

Most of the questions were multiple choice with some of the rearrange a
list kind of thing.

> Any SP2 related questions?

I had no questions specifically about SP2. I also didn't notice any
questions where the answer would be different between the original
release and SP2. But I could have just forgotten what some of those
differences were.

> How many questions?

50 questions in 120 minutes.

Good luck.

Okay, now that's just RUDE, CBIC!

Pablo gave you "thanks" which is plural.

You returned with a single "Welcome"

This makes us look mean.

In the future, please respond to "Thanks!" with "Welcomes!"
