Sybex "Exam Notes" Series Books
I'm enrolled in an instructor-led class for my MCSE in Windows 2000 and need
advice on supplemental material. The books and CD's provided in the class
are not fully providing me with enough specific knowledge.
I have many years of work experience and understand LAN's well, but I'm not
an expert in any OS.
I've reviewed the O'Reilly "MCSE in a Nutshell" and it is somewhat helpful,
but is missing critical key information. Therefore, I ordered the Sybex
"Exam Notes" series of books for W2K Pro and Server, due to be delivered
soon.
Has anyone reviewed these books, and what is your opinion of this as a
supplemental study guide? Tag: MCSE 2003 reading and sites Tag: 107190
Help with educational route
Hey everyone, I would greatly appreciate it if someone
would help me with my problem.
Right now I'm a Junior in high school, and planning on
taking a MCSE course at my local vocational center my
senior year. I've been working with Microsoft programs
since I was 6, so I'm pretty sure this is what I want to
do. =-)
Anyways, my problem is that I don't have a clear
understanding of what I have to do in order to become MC
as a Systems Administrator. After high school I'll be
attending a community college to further this, but I've
asked numerous certified people, and I never get a
straight answer - do I need to transfer to a 4+ year
college to become an administrator or what?
Again I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone of y'all would
answer this, additional information is also welcome.
Thank you! Tag: MCSE 2003 reading and sites Tag: 107187

OT: Paisleyskye
Paisleyskye,
First of all I am not here to enter into the "Flame War, I am a simple
systems analyst contractor that finds all this rather amusing.
Paisleyskye, I think you need to, as the Americans say, "Chill Out". The
messages posted here which seem to be causing you so much concern are no
more than background noise, the content of which you will find within the
average office environment even in the [overly] "politically correct" UK.
While I do not care to participate to such message posting, I do however
read the harmless chitchat amongst the members of this group, much of which
makes me laugh. Granted much of which is off topic, but those people are not
criminals.
In many of your messages I have read today, you mention how people are
"TORTURED", well I see little in this group to backup such remarks. The only
"people" who are "TORTURED" are the spammers, trolls and brain dump pioneers
which together only serve to undermine the status of an MCSE. I personally
do not indulge in "TORTURING" those type worthless people, however the
people who do so have my full backing, it's a shame Microsoft does not do
more to stop the troll's, spammer's etc, etc from ruining the certification
experience for the rest of us. I took the trouble to have a look at the
article posted on the ICertify.net site, I remember many of the messages you
mention, all of which are of a humorous nature. As such, anyone who sees
those posts as anything more than people laughing and joking around should
seek help before they top themselves, they certainly would not last five
minutes in some of the offices/departments I've worked in. The only post I
saw which could be deemed as offensive was the one which questioned your
sexuality; rather uncalled for, but I understand the message poster has
apologised to you, which to me, shows a level of maturity you will not find
within a spammer, troll or brain dump pioneer. I also notice that several of
the MCNGP "members" have posted replies on at least one of the forums
maintained by you. Half expecting this "Flame War" to decent in to your own
area, I was pleasantly surprised by the constructiveness and good nature of
the replies posted by those "thugs" as you would have them known as.
One final point I will bring to your attention; you make reference to
"newbies" who are also abused. Well as far as I am aware the mcse
certification is not targeted at "newbies". There are already too many paper
mcse's in existence who achieve the title without out having any worthwhile
"real world" experience. In any case I don't see "newbies" getting abused in
the newsgroup, I do however see many idiotic messages many of which are
repeated over and over again, by people who clearly do not have the ability
and experience to legitimately become an mcse. Again this is a problem
Microsoft has not addressed, so the problem continues despite companies
saying "Please, no more paper MCSE's". In one of you messages you mention
that people have to start somewhere, well I completely agree, however the
MCSE certification is not the starting point. An MCSE needs to have more
than the ability to simply download and memorise answers to the multitude of
"practice tests" out there, the practice of which only helps to undermine
the value of the MCSE title.
Name and email withheld because I don't want to be flamed by you or anyone
else; as I'm not a "member" of the MCNGP I guess the Flaming could come from
both directions. Tag: MCSE 2003 reading and sites Tag: 107157
Flatulating in test center

Opinions on Cramsession MCSE study guides ?
Hi all,
My, things have certainly changed since the old NT4 MCSE days when the
cramsession study guides were free :) I used them as a last minute recap on
the way to the test centre.
I'm not averse to paying the $7.50 fee per study guide provided the W2K
versions are as good as the old NT4 ones. I would appreciate feedback from
anyone who has tried them. Were they worth the money?
Are there are any free (legitimate) alternatives to the cramsession study
guides?
Best Wishes

How To Make Enough Money To Pay Off Your Bills
HOW TO MAKE EXTREMELY EASY MONEY WITH $6.00!!!!! READING THIS COUL
CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little whil
back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, an
came across an article similar to this that said you could mak
thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment o
$6.00! So I thought, Yeah right, this must be a scam, but like most o
us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you sen
$1.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated in the article. Yo
then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #6
and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands
No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a fe
people first, I thought about trying it. I figured: what have I got t
lose except 6 stamps and $6.00, right? Then I invested the measl
$6.00. Well GUESS WHAT!!... within 7 days, I started getting money i
the mail! I was shocked! I figured it would end soon, but the mone
just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about $25.00. By the en
of the second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00! In the thir
week I had over $10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now m
fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it'
still coming in rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps,
have spent more than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how thi
works and most importantly, why it works.... Also, make sure you prin
a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it a
you need it. I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly
that you will start making more money than you thought possible b
doing something so easy! Suggestion: Read this entire messag
carefully! (Print it out or download it.) Follow the simple direction
and watch the money come in! It's easy. It's legal. And, you
investment is only $6.00 (Plus postage) IMPORTANT: This is not
rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not illegal; and it is virtually n
risk - it really works!!!! If all of the following instructions ar
adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends. PLEASE NOTE
Please follow these directions EXACTLY, and $50,000 or more can b
yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful because of th
honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue its succes
by carefully adhering to the instructions. You will now become part o
the Mail Order business. In this business your product is not solid an
tangible it's a service. You are in the business of developing Mailin
Lists. Many large corporations are happy to pay big bucks for qualit
lists. However, the money made from the mailing lists is secondary t
the income, which is made from people like you and me asking to b
included in that list. Here are the 4 easy steps to success: STEP 1
Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece o
paper; PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST. Now get 6 US $1.00 bills an
place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill will not b
seen through the envelope (to prevent thievery). Next, place one pape
in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 6 seale
envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above phrase, you
name and address, and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating
service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimat
service and you are paying for it! Like most of us I was a littl
skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So
checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and the
confirmed that it is indeed legal! Mail the 6 envelopes to th
following addresses:
Mailing Addresses
1) Justin Stanton
310 Porter st.
Beaverton, MI 48612
2) Mario King
P.O. Box 2276
Stuart, Florida 34995
3) Tyler Warford
107 West 4th
Pattonsburg, Missouri 64670
4) Ian Eckerstien
622 Scottsbluff Dr.
Claremont, Califorina 91711
5) Jennifer Grabill
8150 Fisher St
Warren, MI 48089
6)Justina Braun
3-561 Warsaw Ave
Winnipeg, MB R3L 0R5
Canada
STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the
other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc...) and add YOUR Name as
number 6 on the list.
STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as
close to original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at
least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000 groups) All
you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you
make! This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to Title
18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of these
steps for yourself and, whenever you need money, you can use it again,
and again.
PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because of the
honesty and integrity of the participants and by their carefully
adhering to the directions. Look at it this way. If you are of
integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many others
have received will come your way.
NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you, either
on a computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you. This
VERIFIES that you are truly providing a service. (Also, it might be a
good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the risk of mail
theft.) So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully
followed, six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a
List Developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list
geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position you will
be receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!! What an opportunity for
only $6.00 ($1.00 for each of the first six people listed above) Send
it now, add your own name to the list and you're in business! ---
DIRECTIONS ----- FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS------------
Step 1) you do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own
posting. Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this letter and
drag your cursor to the bottom of this document, and select 'copy' from
the edit menu. This will copy the entire letter into the computer's
memory.
Step 2) Open a blank 'notepad' file and place your cursor at the top of
the blank page. From the 'edit' menu select 'paste'. This will paste a
copy of the letter into notepad so that you can add your name to the
list.
Step 3) Save your new notepad file as a .txt file. If you want to do
your postings in different settings, you'll always have this file to go
back to.
Step 4) Use Netscape or Internet explorer and try searching for various
newsgroups (on-line forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions.)
Step 5) Visit these message boards and post this article as a new
message by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting paste
from the edit menu. Fill in the Subject, this will be the header that
everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a
particular group, click the post message button. You're done with your
first one! Congratulations...THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to
different newsgroups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it
will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup!
**REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL
MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200** That's it! You will
begin receiving money from around the world within days! You may
eventually want to rent a P.O.Box due to the large amount of mail you
will receive. If you wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name to
use, as long as the postman will deliver it. **JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE
ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT.**
Now the WHY part: Out of 200 postings, say I receive only 5 replies (a
very low example). So then I made $5.00 with my name at #6 on the
letter. Now, each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1.00 make the
MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #5 and only 5 persons
respond to each of the original 5, that is another $25.00 for me, now
those 25 each make 200 MINIMUM posts with my name at #4 and only 5
replies each, I will bring in an additional $125.00! Now, those 125
persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 200 with my name at #3 and
only receive 5 replies each, I will make an additional $626.00! OK, now
here is the fun part, each of those 625 persons post a MINIMUM 200
letters with my name at #2 and they each only receive 5 replies, that
just made me $3,125.00!!! Those 3,125 persons will all deliver this
message to 200 newsgroups with my name at #1 and if still 5 persons per
200 newsgroups react I will receive $15,625,00! With an original
investment of only $6.00! AMAZING! When your name is no longer on the
list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out
another $6.00 to names on the list, putting your name at number 6
again. And start posting again. The thing to remember is: do you
realize that thousands of people all over the world are joining the
internet and reading these articles everyday?, JUST LIKE YOU are now!!
So, can you afford $6.00 and see if it really works?? I think so...
People have said, "e;what if the plan is played out and no one sends
you the money? So what! What are the chances of that happening when
there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are
joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it
a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day, with
thousands of those joining the actual internet. Remember: play FAIRLY
and HONESTLY and this will really work.

Trust problem
Following the guides in my MS Press book (Upgrading your Certification to
Windows 2003) on creating a cross forest trust with Windows 2003.
I have raised the domain level and forest levels to Windows Server 2003,
rebooted yet when I try to create any kind of trust i get an error message:
The operation failed. The error is: This operation cannot be performed on
the current domain.
I have tried domain, forest, one way in/ou, and am at a loss. Both servers
are on the same subnet, same ip range, i can ping DNS and IP. Only one
account on each server, it has full admin rights to everything. Nothing
shows up in event viewer and the rather generic error message is of no help.
Any suggestion?
Thanks

backup exe question
Does anyone know if backup from 2003 Server will run on Win 2000?
And what files are needed besides the exe?
thanks!
BTW, Microsoft came up with a snappy name for something:
"Sector Inspector (SecInspect.exe)
SecInspect.exe is a command-line diagnostics tool that allows
administrators to view the contents of master boot records, boot
sectors, and IA64 GUID partition tables. Additional features include
creating hex dumps of binary files and backup/restore of sector
ranges.
Quick Overview
Sector Inspector is a flexible diagnostics tool for safely collecting
disk and file system-related data for offline analysis. Sector
Inspector has additional features that allow backup and restore of
sector ranges for use with other disk editing tools. Because low-level
disk access is performed, administrator privileges are required to use
most features of Sector Inspector."

Hardest 2003 Test?
Ok Gang, I'm a glutten for punishment.....
I'm finishing up a couple of other cert tracks and looking at the MCSE
(2003) just for the heck of it. Shoot, by the time I finish the other 2
tracts, I'll have something like 2 or 3 of the 6 reqs done.
So, What I thought I'd do is to do the final series backwards as a way to
wind down my certification tracks...
In doing so, I'd like to start with the remaining hardest test and work my
way back to the easiest. I don't know why, just seems like an interesting
way of doing it.
So, Of the following, what's the hardest one remaining?
70-290
70-291 (Already Complete as an elective via different track)
70-293
70-294
70-270
70-297
Elective Exams I don't need.
70-228 (Complete)
70-229 (Complete, actually, first exam I ever took)
Actualy, I've got 2 of them but only need 1 of them.
Feel free to rank those above, I only listed the ones I feel like taking,
not necessarily all choices available. (like for client OS and Design)
Thanks for any input.

Has anyone else noticed...
Hey...passed the 296, have to re-take the 292, though. Just wondering for
those who are getting the 2003 upgrade, if they thought that 70-292 was very
very hard?? The choices for answers seemed to have such minute differences.
Disclaimer: In case I gave to much information about the test, I take it
back. Otherwise, what do y'all think? Tag: MCSE 2003 reading and sites Tag: 106833

Can anyone tell me how hard the exam is? I've been hitting
the books for a little over two months now and was
thanking about taken the exam. I feel good with the
practices test and study guides? But wanted to know how
hard the exam is and if there is something I can read up
on that helped anyone out?

Can we have some serious discussion here !!!
Hello All,
I was going through the discussions forums here and what I
saw here was some guys just trying to pass their time and
some time posting "crap" as well. It would be really good
if we utilise this site for the guys who are really
looking for some good useful info. IF one cannot post
something informative , I would suggest them to resist
atleast form posting un-relevent Information as well.
Thanks In Advance !!!

MSCE, that is the question?
If I may pick your brains on this matter I would greatly
benefit from your wisdoms.
I am looking into MCSE or some sort of Networking Job.
I know there is an actual Microsoft Networking Degree at
my college that I am looking into or should I just go
with the cert. And would I benefit in taking CISCO certs
as well.
And would MSCE would be enough for a job or should I keep
going with today's tech. growth.
I have delt with Microsoft products in the military and
Im looking for a change.
Thanks,
