Semi-OT: AF's emailing me
So I fire up the trust ol' (mostly unused) alternate Gmail account, the one
that I used to have in my sig, but not the one you should use if you want to
contact me (get all that?). In it, I see an email from "David Kacuba" - a
nice request that went something like this:
<quote>
need some exams microsoft
</quote>
That's it. No please, no thank you, no "I'm a cheating turd."
What's with these people? Perhaps I should give him a little credit, because
it occurs to me that he may have just googled "need some exams microsoft",
and when a thread in this NG popped up, he ripped my email addy out of it
and requested some exams. Misguided research, but research nonetheless.
Whatever, that's probably not the case. Anyway, my reply to him:
<quote>
Are you serious, dude? Firstly, why would you email this address? Secondly,
why do you think I would give you Microsoft exams? I don't even have them.
No one but Microsoft does. Besides, if I did have them and give them to you,
that would be breaking the NDA, not to mention cheating. I suggest that you
earn your MS certifications, not cheat your way through them. Damn, you're
an idiot.

MCSA/MCSE 2000 Security
Hi,
I'm working my way towards my MCSE, I'm currently MCSA with just 1 exam
left. However I'm looking at taking 70-350 (implementing ISA 2004) as we've
started using it at work, and I've done the course. Will I be able to add
this to my current certification and become MCSA Security, or can I only use
it once I have upgraded from 2000 to 2003? I was reading the certification
planner on the MCP site which says you can take 70-227 (ISA 2000) to become
MCSA 2000 security, however it doesn't say if you can use 350 instead of 227
or not. After all you can use 298, (Designing security for 2003 network),
rather than 220 (Designing security for 2000 network) in your 2000
certification.
I was wondering if they just over looked this, or if you can only use 350
towards a 2003 certification.
Cheers

League table 09/03/2005
First off, my apologies for the gap between my last update which was due to
my eagerly awaited vacation.
Below is the league table of MCNGP members based on the usefulness of their
replies up to the week ending 09/03/2005. As always the league is based on a
scoring system of marks out of 10, 10 being the highest. Please note that
the league does not include some of the MCNGP members who are too
embarrassed to include a reference to the MCNGP membership in their
signature.
I have given CBIC, JaR, Catwalker63, Frisbee® & Kline Sphere an extra 2
points this week for the way they have defended the American people,
tragically affected by hurricane Katrina, from anti American rhetoric. Well
done.

70-216 Passed. Hail Yeah.
I escaped with a 740 and you know what? I dont care. That was easily
the hardest of the Microsoft exams. Multiple Choice, Drag and Drop,
Choose Your Own Adventure. If was a way to format a question, it was
in there.
And its not like this is easy material either. Big on DNS, DHCP, a
lot of IPSec which surprised me. Some group policy. All I need now
is to scrape up 230 bucks for Security+ and its MCSE:Security.
Peace

OT: kpg reporting in from the warzone
Wll, out here where I live in La Place, about 30 miles west of NOLA we
just got power back yesterday water is on then off then on. Now it is off.
Living here in 90+ heat without A/C is painful, but now that the power is
back
on we are almost whole. The oak tree in front of my house blew over onto my
car, but as a whole my family and neighbohood came out well.
New Orleans is a disaster, I'm sure you all have seen the pictures.
Unbelivable.
I'm at my house now, I can't get in to where I work because the police
have closed the roads to everyone except thoses that live in that parish.
I have not spoken to any of my co-workers o even know is my place
of work is intact. At the very least it is without power, possibly flodded.
I'll be back on with more updates later.

Extremely OT: My rant for the day
The price of gasoline is too high. Why is it that gas stations raise their
prices the day something affects the price but it takes months for them to
lower it after the price of crude oil drops? I know that Europe has been
paying high petrol prices for years and we've been lucky until now but now
that we've annexed Iraq the prices should be going down. I think something
needs to be done and soon or I'll have to park my gas guzzling F-150.

MCDST vs MCSE
I recently passed MCDST, and i'm planning to still pursue my MS career, by
first taking up MCSA.. going to MCSE on windows 2003. according to microsoft
web site. MCDST is an elective exam for MCSA on windows 2003. so what i need
to pass is another 2 core exams 290 and 291. am i right? den u'll be MCSA on
windows 2003. my questions are :
1. is MCDST an elective exam also on MCSE on windows 2003?
2. do i need to take up another OS exam which is 70-270 (windows xp) for me
to complete my MCSE path, i already passed teh MCDST exam ? Tag: MCSE Upgrade Tag: 170472

Passed 70-216
Hello to all,
Just passed 70-216 earlier today.
Still harder than the other exams I took (70-210, 70-215, 70-217, 70-218 and
70-227), but it felt much easier since I took it (and failed it) back in 2003.
Now I have to face the design exam. I'm considering 70-219 (Designing a
Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services Infrastructure), but I wanted some
input on the study material.
Since I didn´t take MS 1561 I might buy the training kit (MCSE Training Kit:
Designing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services Infrastructure - ISBN
0735611327), but I read some poor reviews about it.
Another idea would be to take 70-297 (Designing a Microsoft Windows Server
2003 Active Directory and Network Infrastructure) or 70-298 (Designing
Security for a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network ) instead of 70-219
(still for MCSE 2000).
Does anyone have any tips about the Training Kit or about the exams?
Cheers,
Pete Tag: MCSE Upgrade Tag: 170412

Security+ or 70-216?
I posted a couple days ago, but I think my newsserver jacked up my
post.
Basically, I would like some input. I have two exams left for my
MCSE: Security Certification, Security+ or 70-216.
With what I know and have learned studying for the other exams,
including 70-214 (Which kicked my ass twice before I finally passed
it), Security+ should be a breeze, but I am wondering is 216 on par
with the other exams, or is it another bitch like 214.
Just wanting some opinions, hit Security+ first for 70-216?

70-216
Hello to all.
Has anyone taken 70-216 recently?
I was wondering about those drag and drop, select and place and that kind of
question. Last month I took 70-217 and there weren´t any of those on the
exam. Was that kind of question abolished?
I also wonder about the number of questions. When I took 70-210, 70-215,
70-227 and 70-218 there were 50 questions, but again when I took 70-217:
suprise! Only 43 questions.
thanks a lot,
