My boss and I have been looking into advancing my certs into the Security
side of the MCSE program and an important question was asked by management.

Is it better to do a self study program or actually attend class?

Most of my training has been with a book and a few
computers/routers/switches. For those of you that have taken any of the
security electives with Microsoft, what is your opinion?

In your opinion is it better to start with the security + from CompTIA or
would you skip it?

I feel I can do most of the work on my own with a book and not have to spend
the money on class room training and hotel expenses. But I also don't want to
miss out on any good "tech tips" from someone that has experience in this
section.

Thanks

Talyn

Personally, I would do a combination of the two. I wouldn't tell
management that "I can do this all by myself", just in case you hit a
snag. But, I would be careful about which classes you decide to attend.
I'm sure one of the other posters in here will be able to guide you
further (since I'm just a plebe in this area.)
