    - New tests Microsoft announces new MCSE testing procedure Redmond, WA Microsoft certifications got a badly needed shot in the arm today, with the announcement of a new certification procedure for it's much-vaunted, but recently devalued Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) program. Beginning immediately, all existing holders of MCSE will have their certifications revoked pending review. Microsoft learning spokesperson Mandy Envious stated today that current certification holders will have an opportunity to provide proof of expertise with the relevant technology. Further information will be sent to the affected individuals by mail. Future applicants for certification will be required to provide proof of experience in the technology before testing will be approved. Minimum of one full year of experience will be required for most Microsoft Certified Proffessional (MCP) exams. The exceptions being Exam 70?218: Managing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Environment, which is considered to be irrelevant, and requires no verifiable experience, and 70-292 which has such a high failure rate, that two years of verifiable experience must be proven before testing will be scheduled. Microsoft also today released the new fee structure for all certifications. All new MCP applicants will be required to post a $5000.00 bond to ensure against cheating or falsification of experience or training. If it is discovered that an individual has cheated on any portion of the certification process, he or she will be stripped of any an all Microsoft certifications, barred from certification on Microsoft products for life, and forfeit the $5000.00 bond. Each exam will now cost $450.00 USD. Current holders of any MCP may apply for re-instatement of their certifications by posting the $5000.00 bond and appearing for a board review and proof of skills.     - Mount points Hello (again), Another question about 2003 server: I have been doing some practise tests and came across one question where I knew the correct answer because of what I have read, but it doesn't match up with my experience. The question in question (if you'll excuse the pun), was about mount points. The explanation of the correct answer was that only volumes on dynamic disks can be used as mount points. I was sure that I had created mount points under XP in the past, using only basic disks. "Perhaps this is something specific to server 2003?" I thought. I fired up my virtual 2003 server, which has two basic disks. I created a partition on the second basic disk and mounted it as a mount point on the other basic disk. No complaints from Windows. I did some Googling through usenet and found the following quote: " "You really only need to convert to dynamic if you want to use software RAID or volume sets and mount points."What gives?     - Boot Disk Query Hi, I'm currently studying for 70-290 and I have a small query about boot floppies. The books that I have state that you can create a boot disk by simply quick formatting a floppy and copying NTDETECT.COM, NTLDR and BOOT.INI. I decided to test this on Virtual PC by creating a virtual floppy and doing the above. I deleted NTDETECT.COM, NTLDR and BOOT.INI from the C: drive of my server and rebooted. Sure enough, I get 'NTLDR is missing, press Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart'. I put the virtual floppy into the server, and reboot. And the same thing happens. Server will not boot. Booting directly from the floppy (i.e. changing the boot order in the BIOS) has no effect because of course the floppy has no boot record (the book quite clearly states that you just do a normal format of the floppy, which of course doesn't write a boot sector). The book quite clearly states that a floppy like this will enable you to start 2003 server in the event that the boot record or the files that 2003 server uses to boot up become corrupted. I fail to see how this can work, especially if the boot record on the server's hard disk becomes corrupted. What am I doing wrong, and how can the startup disk work when the server's boot record is corrupt and the boot floppy has no boot record? Thanks to all in advance, -- Chris M.     - MCSE 2000 Hello everyone! I'm currently training for MCSE 2000, after about 2 or so years of computer "tinkering." I am winding down to my two final instructor-led classes, and wanted to start taking tests as soon as i feel comfortable with the information.
