Looking for boot camp reviews

Has anyone here attended a boot camp for MCSE and if so, how did you
like the training?

I've not been to any MCSE boot camps but I did go to a week long Cisco
Bootcamp. In my opinion look for a bootcamp being held by a company that
does network integration work and training not just training. Also look for
a company that does normal Microsoft classes and not just bootcamps.

Where I went the trainers also work in the field and install live networks
when they are not training. Other engineers in their company come to the
trainers to help them with the tough problems. You pay top dollar for
training from places like this but IMHO it's worth it.

Last note... if you don't already have a stong foundation and some good
expierence the bootcamps are a waste of money. To much information way to
fast. You might pass the tests but your chances of walking away with any
real skill is pretty slim. If on the other hand you feel pretty good about
most of the info and you want to fill in a few gaps and focus on the material
for a few weeks the bootcapms are not necessarily a bad thing.

You picked the wrong group to ask that question....can't wait to see the
responses.

I have heard a lot of good things about Intense School and Global Knowledge.
Personally the only boot camp I went to was a Tech Data camp for my Compaq
certification.

However, a boot camp nowadays is really only good for people, with
experience, that need to get their certs. Microsoft has been trying to
overcome the paper MCSE stigma that Novell and the CNE really never
overcame...and the CNE is a good cert with good, and hard, questions.

and if you are a career changer...Don't waste your money changing a career
because you recieved a fax promising you a chance for a $72,000 a year
career just because you go to a boot camp.

It truly depends on you. A Real bootcamp is designed with someone that
already has experience in the field and is preparing for certification. You
can't learn everything you need to learn inside 14 days. With that said I
really do like The Training Camp. They don't teach you to take the tests,
which defeats the purpose of the certification to begin with.

But you need to make sure you already feel comfortable with the environment
first. I would recommend at least 12-24 months of actual AD Administration
first. And I don't mean playing with it in a test environment at your house,
I mean real day-to-day operation stuff.

Thanks for the reviews! I do have over 2 years with real life
experience installing LAN's and and setting up Active Directories,
etc. I tried the video CBT path to get myself better educated on
things I just wasn't getting with day to day work (most of my clients
are small...say 10 to 100 workstations and 4 or less servers) so it
has been tough to get enterprise level experience(and exposure.) The
CBT videos were adequate at best but they require hours and hours of
reading to get into the meat of the subject (something I was not told
before laying out over $2,000 for this MCSE self-learning course.)

I don't expect the MCSE boot camp to take a novice to an expert in 14
days. I am looking for that final "push" to go from OJT to formal
MCSE. These are not cheap so I want to make sure I invest my funds in
a camp that will provide excellent instructors, testing onsite (I
don't want to have to go find testing centers after I spend 15 days at
a boot camp!) and labs to practice in.

After this I'll be looking for my CCNA...
