 - I beat the 70-216 Exam & picked up my MCSA! I just passed the 70-216 exam this afternoon...YES! I took the exam in Prometric Centre in London, UK. The look & feel of the exam had changed from the other exams I took at this same center (70-210,215,218), So I guess MS have updated some of their examinations - anyone know anything about this? There were 60 questions, with 135 mins to complete the exam. I run out of time at around question 50. At the point where I only had 5 minutes left, I just went click crazy and answered as many question without too much reading of the scenario - my thinking being that if I didn't answer I wouldn't score, so by randomly selecting answers, I may at least pick up one or two more points! There was no scores or section scores on this exam - just the plain old pass or fail - thankfully mine was the former. As to the content of the exam:- DNS, DHCP, RRAS, routing & Certifacte services where the dominant part of the exam. To a lesser extent WINS, Subnetting Good luck to anyone else taking this exam and be encouraged that even though I ran out of time, randomly answered some of the questions in the last few minutes, and some of the certifacte questions where real stinkers, I still managed to pass.  - 70-217 I'm taking this exam at 10am tomorrow. I've already passed THE BEAST (also known as 70-216) so hopefully this one will be easier... PS I hate the END TEST button at the end of the exams - I usually have plenty of time on the clock to go back through the questions but decide to click the button anyway and hope for the best.  - setting up the W2K server hi, I have a pc running on winXP home edition and intend to install w2k server into this machine but in different partition (E:) so that i will have dual boot system. I was prompted with message that the disk in not set correctly and request me to reformat this partition. After take almost 24 hrs to format the disk which is only 5GB and ended with error message again. This time the error message saying disk can't be formatted properly. I simply don't understand why the format process take so long and initially i have formatted the drive E with Disk Management tool from XP and find no error at all. Any suggestion? Thanks!  - Mike Meyer's Certification Books I just graduated from college in May and now that I am working, I can afford to persue some certifications. I had two semesters of certification prep courses that covered Wndows 2K MCSE (at the time I didn't have the extra cash for the exams, though). At this point, however, I am more interested in 2003 certification. My question is this: Has anyone used the Mike Meyers' Certification Passport books? Are they useful, or should I look somewhere else? I was looking at the smaller books because I already have a solid understanding of 2K MCSE concepts.  - AD installation Hi, I am an MCSE wannabe currently aiming for the 70-215. My problem is this- I am setting up a home lan to practise on. I have a Win2K server and when I try to install the AD I get a message that I need to install DNS first, I enter a DNS like url.net but get an error saying that the url can not be found. Not surprising at all since it is ficticous, my question is, how do I get around this? I tried to configure the DNS first also but got the same kind of message.  - Subnetting & Exam 70-216 I have been learning subnetting using material from my MCSE books. This book states that when determining the valid subnets you should not use the all 1's or all 0's.  - Sybex vs MS books I'm currently studying the core MCSE material. For the most part, I'm enjoying the Sybex books. I've got a very minimal lab set up - two similar Athlon XP systems, for simple client-server material. I'd love to have five decent systems in a garage to make a more realisitic network, but I have neither the money nor the space for it. My question is, would you recommend also getting a hold of the MS books covering all of the exams I'm planning, or is it pretty redundant with Sybex? In my test lab i created an OU with a few users and groups, within that OU i created a GP and thought i applied it to the OU but when i was finished that GP was applied to everyone in the Domain.  - Query on 2003 upgrade Hi Chaps, over the last couple of years I have studied hard and a couple of months ago finally got mu Windows 2000 MCSA and MCSE, the exams I have passed, in order were, 201, 215, 218, 216, 217, 221 and 220. I am now interested in getting the 2003 equivilent exams using the upgrade path. Has anyone done these exams? How different are they to the ones that I have covered? I took Net inf design as my design, AD design and managing a 2k network as my electives! 216 is a beast but if you study hard, know your stuff and use it then you should be okay.  - How to make Exchange 2000 Server proform sluggishly I found a way to make Exchange 2000 to perform sluggishly while learning Exchange 2000 for MCSE. Can anyone confirm this or there is something wrong with my setup? I have a domain called "jeff.com" with 2 domain controllers called homeserver1 and homeserver2. Both domain controllers are installed with Exchange 2000 Enterprise server. Schema master, DN, PDC, RID, and infrastructure master and Global Catalog are residing in homeserver1. 1. In active directory, create user "A" and user "B" with mailbox residing in homeserver1. 2. Make homeserver2 as a front-end server. Reboot homeserver2. 3. In any client (joined to domain jeff.com), do a windows logon as user "A" 4. Using IE, browse to http://homeserver2.jeff.com/exchange 5. When IE asked for credentials, enter credentials for user "B" instead (with the correct password and domain). 6. Watch homeserver2 harddisk activity. After a few minutes, homeserver2 will display an error message that it is low on virtual memory. From now on, this server will perform slugglishy.
