Certifications - A+, Network+, MCSA200 Job Responsibilities We have a little over 50 employees. I take care of all the employee's computer support. I am responsible for all the network Infrastructure.(routers,hardware) I am responsible for all the network servers. Pretty much, if there is a computer problem they come to me....  - Group Policy quick ? for all of you concerning Group Policy. In my test lab i created an OU with a few users and groups, within that OU i created a GP and thought i applied it to the OU but when i was finished that GP was applied to everyone in the Domain.  - Query on 2003 upgrade Hi Chaps, over the last couple of years I have studied hard and a couple of months ago finally got mu Windows 2000 MCSA and MCSE, the exams I have passed, in order were, 201, 215, 218, 216, 217, 221 and 220. I am now interested in getting the 2003 equivilent exams using the upgrade path. Has anyone done these exams? How different are they to the ones that I have covered? Other than Shadow Copies and various upgrades to IIS and Active Directory how much different can 2003 server be in a working domain? Opinions/ advise would be most welcome. Best Regards, Gavin Wilby.  - All done! Now MCSE Just wanted to thank everyone for the support and help over the MCSE! Passed my 70-219 today to get my MCSE. I took Net inf design as my design, AD design and managing a 2k network as my electives! 216 is a beast but if you study hard, know your stuff and use it then you should be okay. Transcenders worked well for non-design stuff but good for understanding. Don't rely on them though! Take the 210 + 215 together or the next day. Good luck everyone and thanks again!!  - How to make Exchange 2000 Server proform sluggishly I found a way to make Exchange 2000 to perform sluggishly while learning Exchange 2000 for MCSE. Can anyone confirm this or there is something wrong with my setup? I have a domain called "jeff.com" with 2 domain controllers called homeserver1 and homeserver2. Both domain controllers are installed with Exchange 2000 Enterprise server. Schema master, DN, PDC, RID, and infrastructure master and Global Catalog are residing in homeserver1. 1. In active directory, create user "A" and user "B" with mailbox residing in homeserver1. 2. Make homeserver2 as a front-end server. Reboot homeserver2. 3. In any client (joined to domain jeff.com), do a windows logon as user "A" 4. Using IE, browse to http://homeserver2.jeff.com/exchange 5. When IE asked for credentials, enter credentials for user "B" instead (with the correct password and domain). 6. Watch homeserver2 harddisk activity. After a few minutes, homeserver2 will display an error message that it is low on virtual memory. From now on, this server will perform slugglishy.  - online training courses (mcse 2003 upgrade?) has anybody successfully used online training courses to upgrade your mcse 2000 to mcse 2003? i'll probably buy a book for 292 and 296 but i was curious how other people are preparing for the exam. i have evaluation software i intend to practice with at home but we're not using 2003 at work yet, so i want to check out some additional study/training options.  - Installing Exchange 2000 across different root tree in the same forest? I am studying Exchange 2000 for my final MCSE exam. I have one question to ask as I couln't find the answer anywhere else I have installed Exchange 2000 into my root "jeff.com" domain where schema master, DN master resides. Later I promoted another root domain called "guan.com" domain which also resides in the same forest as jeff.com. Then I promoted another domain called "hasl.jeff.com" which is obviously a child comain of jeff.com When installing to Exchange 2000 to "hasl.jeff.com", I do not have whatsoever problem at all. But when installing to "guan.com", it complains that it cannot connect to active directory and schema master. So can Exchange 2000 be installed in different root tree in the same forest?  - 70-219 - finished well, i am sipping a much deserved beer after finally passing my design elective and achieving mcse status. i don't know how it happened but i passed the sucker! the details: 4 scenario;s 31 quesiton 4 hours to do it in. 1 hr per scanario. you can go back and double check what you answered at the end of scenario 4. unfortunaly, no score at the end. i guess ms haven't got around to changing this one yet. it's a pity cause i would have like to know what i did. afterthoughts: it wasn't as bad as i thought - but i was flying by the seat of my pants. the question format just completely messed me up. i hope i never get another design exam! thanks to daniel petri for his web site. http://www.petri.co.il/index.htm and his exam tips are here --> http://www.petri.co.il/studying_tips.htm now either onto the 2003 upgrades or starting on my CCNA or Security+.  - Licencing and TS OK. Suppose I have a Terminal Server with 1000 clients connecting to it. On this I have MS Office installed. Everyone uses this. I also have Visio installed. Only one department of 20 users requires this. Now, I can't use Software Settings in a GPO to push this application just to those 20 users, because this doesn't work under TS - I've tried it; the Add/Remove programs applet just tells you it's a no-no. Suppose I use NTFS file permissions to only allow those 20 people access to the executable. I use other GPO settings to only let those 20 people see an icon for Visio. I don't understand what a root-level Dfs shared folder is. Is it talking about replicating the single root folder, or replicating the entire Dfs structure, or all the first-level folders (meaning all of the folders since only a single level is allowed in stand-alone Dfs roots), or what?  - unable to set up internet printer I have a HP Deskjet 920c printer attached to a Windows 2000 Pro system in a small domain. I can share the printer in the printer properties and access the share from other systems via Active Directory. From what I've read, I just need to have IIS and File and Print Sharing installed, both of which are installed and are being used. Other than File and Print Sharing, I have TCP/IP and Client for Microsoft Networks installed, both of which are being used, and no other protocols or clients installed associated with the NIC. The problem is the printer doesn't show up in http requests. I've tried the URL http://mycomputername/printers from the system the printer is attached to and another system in the domain, but I get a 404 error. The root directory, http://mycomputername , is accessible. I'm also unable to add the printer via the Add Printer Wizard and selecting "Connect to a printer on the internet or on your intranet" and entering http://mycomputername/printers/hpdj920c/.printer , but it can't find the printer. The printer share permissions allow full control for the Administrators accounts I've attempted to access the printer from. I was instructed to open Personal Web Manager, click on Advanced, and examine the Printers folder, but there is no such folder listed.  - VISIO 2003 AD import Feature. Yes this is off topic. The reason I posted thise here is because I have seen 0 MS people in the Visio news group. At least here we get some. ok so here it goes. I was told that Visio 2003 Pro was going to have the ability to import running AD for diagraming purposes. This feature was avalible in the 2002 enteprise tools addon which has been discotinued. Now I hear Microsoft stripped the feature out of 2003 pro. I really would like to know if they are going to add this functionality back. Even if it was an addon I would be willing to purchase it.  - What Does MS do About Braindumps? Okay, so testking is closed, but their clones live on. My question is this. What does MS do to educate people about braindumps and why they are bad? How are they helping visitors to their certification website know that there are scams out there and how to avoid them? I'm sure MS antipiracy manager Dave Swartzendruber would love them to do more (see http://www.microsoft.com/TrainCert/mcp/program/piracy.asp for more details on that). If testking really did get shut down, MS should be putting up a press release or something. Let people know that MS is fighting to preserve the value of our certs! When people look for training a lot of them search the web. When I search for yahoo for "mcse practice exam", I get lots of different places. How can the general public tell which is reputable and which is not? Of course there is a potential for disaster and I've seen it backfire in this way. It could play out something like this: MS says on their web site to beware of sites offering actual exam questions. The general public says, "I can get the actual exam questions? Where?". Make Money Fast A little while back, I was browsing these newsgroups, just like you are now, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought," Yeah, right, this must be a scam", but like most of us, but I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated in the article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. The main difference between this system and others is that you have a mailing list of 6 instead of 5... This means that your average gain will be app. 15 times higher!!! So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00, right? Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal! Then I invested the measly $6.00.............plus postage Well GUESS WHAT!!... Within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I still figured it would end soon, and didn't give it another thought. But the money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about $20.00 to $30.00 dollars. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00!!!!!! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's still coming in rapidly....... It's certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I spent more than that on the lottery!!
