Script error: 70-270
Hi,
I'm trying to run the Readiness Review exam (downloaded
from the Microsoft site) and it won't run because of
internet explorer script errors. Initially, when I start
the application the error is:
Line 17
Char 1
Error: 'objBigList.DocumentElement' is null or not an
object.
I click 'yes' to continue running scripts on the page but
when I click on 'Start Test' the test appears to start
(timer and everything) but there's no question.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks! Tag: OT Friday Funny Tag: 149267
70-299 Advice
Hi all,
has anyone had any luck passing this exam? I have just failed it for the
second time. Passing score 700 both times, first time got 650, second time
got 675. Gutted. Thing is, I can't figure out where I am going wrong, I
know the material, I've been using it for years, and studied hard, and for
the life of me can't remember doing a question where I was completely stumped
for an answer.
Got to wait two weeks now before re-sitting it again......how depressing....
Be happy to hear peoples thoughts on it?
Thanks

OT: MSN Tech Support
Ok... I gotta share this. My soon to be mother in law
took it upon herself to call tech support due to some
issues when upgrading (ha) to MSN 9. Dial up of course.
Seems her internet connection has been slow lately. So
she gets on the phone with the help desk. They have her
go through some of her network connections (why?), make a
couple changes, and somewhere in there... pointed out to
her that she had 128k+ connection to the internet. Now, I
am not so egotistical to think that I know everything...
but she is dialing up on a 56K modem... and the tech is
telling her she has speeds of 128k +... not just 128.. but
better. This she was explaining to me... I tried to get
away... I tried my best to just walk away... but no. My
Fiance stopped me. So, I explained as delicatley as I
could... a 56K modem is exactly that... the BEST you are
going to get is probably about 50-52k... But they looked
at me like I am stupid (I am the one here with an A+ and
MCSA)... I said, that would be like trying to drive 100
MPH through a thick forest... Or It just won't work. Now,
my soon to be Mother in law is not the one I hold
responsible on this... to think that TECH SUPPORT told her
that she had those kinds of speed over a dialup conncetion
on a 56k modem is beyond me. huh. What is this world
coming to (either that... or they have some amazing 56k
modems in india where that tech support is at). Tag: OT Friday Funny Tag: 149230

Since it's been relatively slow in here lately, thought that some of you who
don't read the alt groups (alt.certification.mcse) might want to see
something that doesn't happen a lot. Someone who goes by Adam was peddling
(or attempting to peddle) illegal copies of various test prep software. I
had forwarded his original post to MS in hopes that they'd at least shut
down his hotmail account, but apparently he's been turned in by...

Can anyone recommend an exam centre in Bangkok? I'm planning to take

DNS - Forwarding server vs. caching-only server
Can someone explain how a Forwarding server is functionally any
different from a Caching-only server?
A Forwarding server forwards all DNS requests to another DNS server

A Caching-only server forwards all DNS requests to another DNS server

mentioned that they had an eval version of ISA 2000.

Configuring a DNS zone....
In Windows Server 2003, when configuring a new DNS zone, you tell the
Wizard that this is to be a Primary server.
When the process is complete and you view the zone's Properties, you
can see on the General tab that this is in fact a Primary server.
Then... over on the SOA tab... it gives you the opportunity to type in
the name of the Primary server.
Now, just a few moments ago I told it that THIS server is the Primary
server. I don't understand why it gives you the opportunity to
specify some other server as being the Primary.
Is there a possible scenario in which you would specify that this
server is primary for this zone, but then enter the name of some other
server on the SOA tab?
Thanks.............. Tag: OT Friday Funny Tag: 148887
Stub Zones
The 70-291 books I have been reading say there are are many uses for
Stub Zones. Page 5-69 of the MS Press 70-291 book, for example
suggesta using Stub Zones in the following situation:
Your local network contains a stub zone that points to a nameserver on
a network in another office, on the other side of a presumably slow
wan link. If you do a dns request for a host on the remote network,
the stub zone would supply you with the address of the remote dns
server, so you can query that nameserver instead. The big advantage
is that you don't have to query from a root server all the way down to
the host you want, which would use some bandwidth.
IMO, a local secondary server would be better than a stub zone,
because you wouldn't have to query the remote server across the wan
link... the local secondary server would already have the dns
information you need.
Of course the secondary server does require zone transfers, but
assuming it is configured for IXFR transfers rather than complete zone
transfers, the only transfer traffic would be when clients get new
addresses... probably less traffic involved there than having to send
dns queries over the wan every time.
For that matter a caching-only server would work ok too. I don't
think the stub zone is the best solution here.
Any comments? Am I wrong?
(The other use they recommend for stub zones is to keep an eye on
nameservers popping up in delegated zones. No arguement from me
there.) Tag: OT Friday Funny Tag: 148886
workstation disjoined domain
Does anyone have any ideas as to why a Win2k system would act as if they
disjoin itself from the domain? I guess they don't actually disjoin
themselves, but they act as if they do because for some unknown reason 2
systems in particular will suddenly not allow domain users to logon to the
domain. I can logon with my domain admin account, but the only fix I can
find to allow domain users to logon to the domain with these systems is to
disjoin them from the domain, logon to the AD server, delete the system's
objects from AD, DNS, and DHCP, and then rejoin the systems to the domain.
The systems will then work normally for about 4 or 5 days before the problem
occurs again. I did notice that these system seem to get slammed from time
to time with data being copied and/or moved from them to other systems across
the network. I wouldn't think that heavy network traffic would cause a
problem, but I'm not sure what else would cause this problem.
