OT: e-pox free news reader update
After building an OE-like reader and fighting
with the user interface I had an epiphany.
Why re-invent the wheel? Instead of a reader
I'm writing a server that sits between the user
and the news group. Any newsreader can be used
with it by simply entering localhost instead of
news.microsoft.com (or whatever). The newsreader
will talk to the local server, which in turn relays
it to the remote newsgroup. It's a much simpler
and effective solution. (I'm using it now!)
The challenge is going to be the filter. Spam
killers have the same problem, that is, identifying
what is desirable and what is not. Fortunately,
it's an easy matter to zap anything with a
***YAWN*** in it. Thanks e-pox, for being so
damn repetitive. What a maroon.

OT: IE Bit Torrent issues
Hi guys,
I just installed the new XP Service Pack 2 RC1 and it
messed with how Internet Explorer handles Bit Torrent
files. For those of you who don't have it, Bit Torrent is
a combination file sharing program and download manager.
Files are posted on websites with a .torrent extention,
which I assume amount to instructions for the Bit Torrent
download app. When clicked, the files used to download
and run, causing the download app to run, but now that I
installed SP2, IE attempts to open the file and display
it as if it were opened in Notepad, displaying a bunch of
text and gibberish. Funny thing is, if I choose to save
the .torrent file on my Desktop and double click it
there, the program runs normally. Does anybody know if
there is anything I can do to stop IE from trying to
display the files code and have it just run the stuff
normally? Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
Chris L. Tag: Finally! Tag: 121054

Are thing really picking up?
I've heard the the figures for U.S. jobless claims include
unemployment benefits extensions (which Congress, in their infinite wisdom,
ended in 12/03). That would certainly make it appear as though jobless
claims in the U.S. were on the decline. This article refers to "new" jobless
claims so maybe they're using different statistics. Of course, there are all
the recently laid off workers from Gateway and Sun Microsystems now. :-(
Anyone have any thoughts on the situation?

Yet another in a series of pointless, jingoistic, off-topic posts.
One of my online time-wasters is to read the aviation related forums at
airliners.net. I came across a (to me, anyway) highly amusing discussion
on the vertiably Dickensian conditions at Indian airports. Some of the
highlights: faulty escalators dismembering children, swarms of grifters and
pickpocets (many who are also government/airport employees), and rabid dogs
roaming the terminals.
Too bad companies outsourcing aren't required to travel to India before
signing contracts. Might scare of a few of them, anyway.

so how much do you think microsoft corp. makes a year from their
certification progam(s)? the moc's, exams, books, the whole kunandrum.
probably a lot of cash, right.
so i get the mcsa 2003 kit in the mail. everything is exactly the same as
2000 kit. the only thing that's different is that on the actual cert, they
bothered to replace the "0" at the end of "2000" with a "3" to read "2003".
you would think they could afford to make new 2003 lapel pin's and/or give
you a different looking card. hey, maybe even re-design the cert a bit as
well. just a thought....;-(
</rant>
the last super model i picked up in the bar with my lapel pins didn't
believe me that i had a 2003 cert. she wanted to see a lapel pin as proof.

Problem with GPO and OU
Hy
I have problem with GPO and OU. I created OU and named
OU1. Then I create user1 and put in OU1. And specialy for
that OU I made new GPO and made some changes in that GPO.
I removed Run... and Help from Start menu.
But if I logon with user1 (only member of Domain Users),
there is still Run... and Help in Start menu.
If I made user1 member of Domain Admins group all work
properly. If I logon with that user ther are no more
Run... and Help in Start menu.
user1 is romaining user. If user is only member Doman
Users group, I cant logon over network. If I just put
user1 to o Domain Admin group, user can log on over
network (and work properly, ther arn no more Run... and
Help in Start menu).
So my problem is that user1 (or any other user) must be
member of Domain Admins group to work properly (to work so
like GPO is setup).
But I cant put every user to Domain Admins group! User
must be only in Domain Users group...
And I tried to put Administrator user to some other
container. GPO for Domain, Domain Controllers and OU1 are
diffrent. I put Administrator user to each container
(Users, Domain Controllers, OU1), and all work properly.
But if I do so with user1 (member of Domain Users only)
dont work properly...
Actualy I worked for 2 days and that is all what I found
out. I now that I must made somethig so, that will apply
GPO not only for Domain Admins group but for Domain Users
group too. But where is that?!?!
And I made excercises for GPO from book (MS Press, 70-
215), and dont work properly...
Please, can anyon help my? Can tell me, what to check,
where to made some changes? What is most likely mistake in
setup for that behaviour?
