MISSING FILES
Hi;
I am trying to get familar with Windows Server 2003 and just installed a
trial version on my system. The installation completed, but there were a
number of files the Setup could not read when installing files. The missing
files are: cmnicfg.xml, ipcfg.xml, csinfo.xml, potscfg.xml,
pppcfg.xml,xmlp_bec.xdr, xmlp_beu.xdr, xmlp_ecp.xdr, xmlp_fcd.xdr,
xmlp_hlp.xdr, xmlp_mas.xdr, and xmlp_wiz.xdr. I'm assuming their absence in
the configuration will cause problems periodically. Where could I find these
files? Also where in the directory system would I place them and what would
be the best way to accomplish the task of getting them back into the program?
Thanks. Tag: Excellent website for MCSE, CCNA, Oracle, A+ exams Tag: 221007

Requirement from MCSA2003 to MCSE2003
Hi
I earned my MCSA2003 credential through the exam 70-292 (upgrade path). From
the link, http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcse/windows2003/mcsa.mspx. ,
I should take
1. two Core Exam:Networking System exams
2. one Core Exam:Design exam
3. Elective exam
But I have taken the Windows 2000 design exam 70-219 and 70-221; and
elective exam 70-228. So therefore I should only take the exam 70-292 and
70-294 core exam? Any advise?
Thanks in advance

An Amazing Story...
In 1986, Dan Harrison was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from
Northwestern University. On a hike through t he bush, he came across a young
bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed
distressed, so Dan approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee and
inspected the elephant's foot and found a large piece of wood deeply
embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Dan worked the wood
out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its
foot.
The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its
face, stared at him for several tense moments. Dan stood frozen, thinking of
nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly,
turned, and walked away. Dan never forgot that elephant or the events of
that day.
Twenty years later, Dan was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenage
son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned
and walked over to near where Dan and his son Dan Jr. were standing. The
large bull elephant stared at Dan, lifted its front foot off the ground, and
then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly,
all the while staring at the man. Remembering the encounter in 1986, Dan
couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant. Dan summoned up his
courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He
walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant
trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Dan's legs and slammed him
against the railing, killing him instantly.
Probably wasn't the same elephant.

From MCSA 2000 to MCSE 2003
Hi All,
I just have a quick question regarding the path from MCSA 2000 to MCSE 2003
I was all ways under the impression that 4 exams were required to go from an
MCSA to MCSE. I was an MCSA on 2000 and recently passed 70-292 making me MCSA
2003. I was looking to upgrade this to MCSE 2003 expecting another 4 exams,
but according to the MS cert site it states an MCSA counts as an elective, so
if i have got it correct I only need 2 core networking and a core design,
totalling 3 exams. Have I got the correct idea or am i miles off,
Of course after finishing 2003 cert i will be moving to 2008
cheers for any advice.

MCSE core Exams for W2k Svr
Hello All,
I was a bit surprise that w2k exams were retired as of March 2008.
Question, if someone already has the four core exams from the previous MCSE
on Windows 2000, does that still help attain/upgrade to Windows 2003 MCSE?
It appears I may have to start the WS2003 from the beginning.

MCSE 2003 at last!
Hi all, I'm glad and somewhat relieved to be a MCSE after starting a track
in 1996 - yep it's taken me 12 years from the time I took the Windows 95 MCP
exam all the way to the 70-298 just recently. In that time I did a bunch of
NT4 server exams but just didn't get round to the last one, then NT4 gave
way to 2000, that gave way to 2003, now 2008 is coming and I thought I
should just get it done.
Now studying hard for the 2008 upgrade when available!
and as a veteran of MS exams I can give this sage advice: Simply, A little
practical experience goes a long way. So take advantage of Microsofts
downloadable VHDs and get experiencing! :-)
cheers

"John R" info : upgrade path MCSE 2000 > 2003 : 290/91 instead of
Hi there,
As a modest Star Wars freak, I might open with the following phrase: "I
think I'm in a heap of Boontah pooh"...
That being said and on a more serious note : I've earned my MCSE 2000
certification a long while ago. As I never had the time nor the real "need"
to upgrade this to MCSE 2003, I never bothered to be honest. But now, a dream
opportunity arose which requires the certificate (I already passed the
technical interviews but they require that slip of paper).
As both 292 and 296 are almost cancelled (last date : 24th of May 2008) and
I don't have the time to do them this month, I read several posts by a user
with the handle "John R" who states that 290 and 291 count towards the 292...
And the 293 and 294 count towards the 296.
If that's indeed true, it will a great relief. But alas, I've phoned to
several test centra over here and they couldn't confirm... Even a call to
Microsoft or browsing their official learning/certifications tracks, doesn't
confirm this info.
So can anybody out there confirm this?
cheers and thanks!

70-293
I'm studying for the 70-293 at the moment and I noticed that in my MS Press
book as well as in the videos I watch through a commercial portal, they
preach about using the "2^x -2" formula for calculating not only the maximum
number of usable hosts, but for the maximum usable number of subnets. It was
my understanding that most all modern NOSes and routers can use subnets
consisting of all 1s and all 0s.
Has anyone taken this test recently? Does it assume that you'll be applying
the older formula when calculating subnets or does it assume all subnets
will be usable?
Thanks,

Mouse Balls and Mouse Ball inspectors
I don't know how they wrote this with a straight face. This was a real
memo sent out by IBM to its employees in all seriousness.
It went to all field engineers about a computer peripheral problem. The
author of this memo was quite genuine. The engineers rolled on the
floor!
Especially note the last couple of sentences.
"If a mouse fails to operate or should it perform erratically, it may
need a ball replacement. Mouse balls are now available as FRU (Field
Replacement Units). Because of the delicate nature of this procedure, a
replacement of mouse balls should only be attempted by properly trained
personnel.
Before proceeding, determine the type of mouse balls by examining the
underside of the mouse. Domestic balls will be larger and harder than
foreign balls.
Ball removal procedures differ depending upon the manufacturer of the
mouse. Foreign balls can be replaced using the pop off method. Domestic
balls are replaced by using the twist off method.
Mouse balls are not usually static sensitive. However, excessive
handling can result in sudden discharge.
Upon completion of ball replacement, the mouse may be used immediately.
It is recommended that each person have a pair of spare balls for
maintaining optimum customer satisfaction.
Any customer missing his balls should contact the local personnel in
charge of removing and replacing these necessary items.
Please keep in mind that a customer without properly working balls is an
unhappy customer." Tag: Excellent website for MCSE, CCNA, Oracle, A+ exams Tag: 220543
