70-297 Exam
Hello All,
Last Friday (March 29, 2008) i had scheduled an exam which is one of the
exams included into MCSE 2003 bundle. The exam name is 70-297 Designing a
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory and Network Infrastructure.
I am wondering what out-of-date this exam was. I am really disappointed
about the whole exam.
1. First of all, almost 80% of all questions were related to Windows NT4,
Windows 98, Windows 2000 and the other 20% were ONLY Windows 2003 Server
based.
2. The whole interface of the quiz was the WORST which i have ever seen. The
exam was divided into 6 sections where every one of them had among 6 and 9
questions. The time was dedicated per section where for an example i had 15
minutes for a section with 6 questions and 23 minutes for a section with 9
questions INCLUDING THE TIME TO READ the scenario.
3. Every section had a scenario where the test taker has to read what would
be the given business situation. I was quite surprised when i figured out
that the actual scenario text was counted as a part of the questions included
within the section. That is absolutely foolish. How can you count the
scenario as part of the questions??? Also because there were 6 sections i
figured out that every scenario will be COUNTED AS UNANSWERED QUESTION. That
really made me angry.
4. The scenarios were such a long so i had to spend almost 45% of the time
just to read the scenario and there was no time to finish the questions.
Because the scenario were so large, me as test taker had to switch back and
forth between the questions and the scenario to extract the information which
i needed. I had to spend a minute or so, just to find where the right
information was.
5. On top of that stupidity there were so many grammar and technical errors,
I could not believe this is an official test which contains all this "CUTTING
EDGE" information as part of MCSE Windows 2003 bundle packet.
I would like to share my bad experience with the MCSA / MCSE community
including Microsoft learning department. Please lets make this known to all
of us and Microsoft learning department. If someone can help to bring this
issue to whoever will concern, i will appreciate it very much.
Sincerely
Ivaylo Krumov

connect XP pro to domain
sorry to bother you but I need a bit of help to connect my pc to domain.
Here is a list of what I have and the questions below. Sorry about the
questions but the 290 Microsoft press does not provide any info on
configuring a server most of the items have been skipped.
1 pc with Win 2003 server enterprise named Server01 with Domain called
Contoso.com
2 pc with XP Pro with SP2
1 8 port switch
1 wireless router connected to broadband modem
The Server01 has 1 NIC card so I have connected that to port 2 on the switch
and I have also connected the wireless router using ethernet to the uplink
port for the switch and then plugged my 2 XP pro computers to the switch
using the available ports.
On Server01 in the contoso domain I have added the computer names to the
domain and also created user accountso n the domain and created a dhcp scope
of 192.168.0.10-254 and allocated the server01 a static IP of 192.168.0.10
and a default gateway of 192.168.1.1 which is provided by the wireless
router.I installed an active directory. I installed a dhcp server and Dns
forwarder. I have not changed anything on the xp pcs besides try to join
them to domain and failed. I have disabled the firewall on server01.
I have verified that the DHCP, AD, User accounts, Computer Accounts are
there in the Contoso.com domain under the admin tools section.
I went through to system properties-change- join to domain- entered domain
name- then a box came up whereby I had to enter a username and password and
I entered the user details I had created on Server01 but I keep getting
wrong username or bad password.
[b]Am I doing something wrong or is there something I need to setup on the
XP or Server01?
Should I disable DHCP server+ DNS on my wireless Router?
How can I make all my connections by the XP pcs go through the Server01?
Why am I getting error message when the user accounts are valid and
passwords in the Contoso Domain?
How can I create a subnet mask so I can carry on using my wireless internet
whilst tinkering around with the DC and XP pcs? Tag: Excellent website to start MCSE Certification Tag: 220023

Is it worth it?
Hi guys,
I don't see a discussion group for MCITP here, think this one is the closest
to it. I currently hold these certifications:
1. MCP: Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment
2. MCTS: Windows Vista Configuration
I'm thinking to get hold of the following certifications:
1. MCITP: Enterprise Support Technician
2. MCITP: Enterprise Administrator on Windows Server 2008
3. MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator
4. MCSE Messaging on Windows 2003
Is it worth it to go for both Enterprise Support Technician and Enterprise
Administrator certifications?
If I'm going for Enterprise Administrator and Enterprise Messaging
Administrator, which covers Windows 2008 and Exchange 2007 respectively, is
it worth it to go for MCSE Messaging on Windows 2003?
I've also passed my CCNA exam, which I'm thinking to upgrade to CCNP. Not
working at the minute... Thinking towards finishing up all these
certifications before I find myself a job... Please suggest keeping in mind
that I won't be getting any pay rise for going step by step for each of the
planned certifications. It's money outta pocket...
Looking forward to hear from you.

Training group for mCSA, MCSE, CCNA, etc.
Can anyone tell me whether the following trainging group is worth
joining?
http://tinyurl.com/2zwj6z
or
http://www.techprosgroup.com/LANWAN/LANWAN1.php?gclid=CK_TjKPhppICFRZciAodzilPLw
BTW, at a local college, I have taken the first class of MCSA and am
taking the seocnd class of MCSA. I will be taking Cisco classes ta the
same college in Fall.
I am wondering whether I should join the above group where they have
8 weeks remote training class via stages - I will provide what they
said in email below - so that after I finished those exams, I will
have jobs related to the career path I am pursuing.
This is what they explained to me in the email after initially sending
me a pdf file explaining basically the same thing - I don't believe
that I can study for these 4 certificatiosn in 8 weeks as they stated
unles I already know the material:
<<<<<<<<<<
Stage 1 is 8 weeks remote (4 certifications: MCP, MCSA 2003, MCSA
Messaging, & CMNA)
Stage 2 is 8 weeks remote (4 certifications: MCSE 2003, MCSE
Messaging, MCSE Security, & CCNA) - The 2 week full immersion hands-on
boot camp is after Stage 2.
During these first two stages, training is done by remote access with
a secure internet connection. Our program is structured in a way that
candidates can study from home as well as sustaining their current
job. You will be connecting your desktop to our virtual servers
through a remote desktop connector and will be engaging in hands-on
training (managing 3-4 servers, building networks from the ground up,
working with active directory/exchange servers, and doing what
administrators do on a daily basis). You will also have access to our
online resource center at all times where you will be doing your
conceptual learning through e-books, study materials, etc... We expect
our candidates to at least put in about 10-12 hours a week on the
remote servers to get their hands on training. I have attached a
document that will show you the network administrator remote training
schedule along with the private virtual LAN times for enterprise hands-
on remote training.
Stage 3 is where paid internship begins. At this time, you would
terminate from your current employment to further your career into
IT. Upon successful completion of your training, Tech Pros Group will
assign you to a regional Microsoft/Cisco consulting partner for one
year paid internship or direct placement. This means that we will
place you into an internship in your nearest metropolitan area (On the
application, you can choose up to two desired internship locations).
During this stage is where interns are paid on a sliding scale. This
information/scale is on the disclosure document. Once the one year
internship is over, most of our candidates tend to stay with that
company due to their history and choose to negotiate their salary,
benefits, medical, etc... [The internship is a contract-to-hire, full-
time position for one year].
Regarding the full immersion hands-on camp, that will be held in our
facilities here in Irvine, California. We will provide you the
training, materials, lodging, and meals; however, you will responsible
for your transportation over here.
I will break down the total cost to you (Your responsibility before
starting stage 1) :
$95 - Application
$295 - Registration and Setup of Virtual Servers
$165 each - 3 Enterprise Lab Guides
$49 - Shipping/Handling
This comes out to be a total of approximately $934. The cost of stage
1 is on the bottom of page 11 on the disclosure. The reason we have
the hard cost is to prevent any losses from candidates who do not
finish the program or end up deciding not to move forward with a
career in IT. During this stage you will be receiving over $4,000 in
training services and be fully certified in MCP, MCSA 2003, MCSA
Messaging, and CMNA. Once you move on to Stage 2, our company then
invests over $20,000 into you because this stage prepares you for the
internship/placement phase. At this time, 100% of the training costs,
along with registration and setup, shipping fees, and training
materials are paid for by our company. This is possible because by
then, we will have a more solidified relationship and you will have
shown your technical proficiency.
Regarding your concern with stage 2, Tech Pros Group provides
everything from materials, application fee, server cost, background
check, and training. The only cost you have in stage 2 would be the
certification examinations and your transportation over to California
for the 2 week boot camp.
During stage 1 and stage 2, there are between 10-12 Microsoft/Cisco
exams ranging from $125-$250/each. This is paid directly to the
testing center and is taken in your metropolitan area through Pearson
VUE or Prometric.
The candidates will need to pass the following exams:
Stage 1 ($125/each) CMNA - $250
MCSA
70-270
70-290
70-291
MCSA Messaging
70-284
Stage 2 ($125/each)
MCSE + Security + Messaging
70-285
70-293
70-294
70-298
70-299
70-350
CCNA (640-802) $150
Best regards,
Recruiting manager
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
By the way, initually when we talked, he explained to me that they get
compensated by the consulting firm who would place me for a job
(internship).
So, what I do not understand is how this TechPros group can guarantee
anyhting about internship. Tag: Excellent website to start MCSE Certification Tag: 219987

The approaching death of Windows XP may upset you, but it shouldn't come as a
surprise. Microsoft Corp.'s product life-cycle guidelines have foretold the
fate of XP since 2001. In fact, Microsoft has been killing off one version of
a product as it is replaced with another for years now. But this time around,
the approaching demise of XP is getting more attention than, say, the final
passing of Windows 2000...

Scheduling a retiring exam after 3/31/2008
Hello,
Has anyone tried to schedule any of the retiring exams after 3/31/2008
?
I just wonder what would happen.
a) Prometric would let you pay for it, then flag it and cancel it, and
eventually refund your money.
b) Give you credit toward an exam that isn't expiring
c) Keep your money but not let you take that test (or any test)
d) Let you take the test.
e) other?
I just wanted to finish up with the 292 and 296. I know I can take
the 290 and 291 for the 292 and the 293 and 294 for the 296. That
costs twice as much though...
Meanwhile I'm retaking "the beast" while fighting off
bronchitis/walking pneumonia on Tuesday.
With the nationwide testing center cockup on March 15th with Prometric
I thought MS might give some folks a break.

what should i NOT know?
Hi,
I'm studying from the official Microsoft MCSA/MCSE self paced training kit.
It tells me several things are not possible whereas we all know by now some
things are possible.
Some things are MS things: There is supposed to be NO 64-bit version of
Windows 2003 Std server.
Some things are technology improvements: Fibre Channel can only do 100Mbit,
iSCSI is not supposed to exist. :-)
I assume I am to rely on what the book says, and not what the real world is,
right? The "newest" technology that will be tested it what is in the "latest
version" of the book right?
Or.... am I supposed to know all there is at
http://www.microsoft.com/mspress/updates/ as well? I cannot find any update
for my book, just a lot of 2008 info.

Since we are really near the end of the month (March 2008) and those exams

70-296, If I fail, which exams will be required to get my MCSE 2000 upgraded

MS Press Book 70-297
On page 1-52 under "Lesson 3 Review", question 2 states:
"Your company has registered the network ID 131.107.0.0, which uses the
default subnet mask 255.255.0.0. You would like to create a custom subnet
mask that allows you to divide that network into the maximum number of
subnets that would allow you to have at least 20 hosts per subnet. What
custom subnet mask would you use?"
Question 2 Answer states:
"To start with, you know you will have to borrow some bits from the host ID
in the third and fourth octets. Any custom subnet mask with a value greater
than 240 in the tourth octet will give you fewer than 20 hosts per subnet.
Using 255.255.255.224 as a subnet mask will give you 4095 possible subnets
with 31 hosts possible per subnet. It is also common practice to subtract 2
addresses from the possible number of hosts to account fro host IDs that
contain all zeros or all ones. Even with this margin, you still have 30
possible hosts."
I apologize for re-typing all of this but my question is about the answer.
Where do they get the number 4095 possible subnets? Is this a typo and if
not, where is the 4095 coming from? I understand every other part of the
question and answer except for that. Someone who knows please help. Thanks! Tag: Excellent website to start MCSE Certification Tag: 219743
