How to check for braindumps?
Hey,
I need to find a list of practise test sites that
Microsoft would consider a braindump. I need this because
I want to avoid using a practise test\simulator that
would be considered cheating. Is there a posted list of
approved sites, I have seen a couple posted on here but
was looking for a more complete list.

Configuring SQL Server with Mail Session(Exchange Server)
Hi-
I have been trying to configure SQL Server 2000 to send
Alerts to Mail Box. The following I have used.
1. Windows 2000 SP2
2. MS Exchange 2000 Evaluation copy
3. MS Outlook 2000 Evaluation copy.
Server1-
Only Windows 2000 with AD- Nwtraders.msft configured
Server2-
Member Server of Nwtraders.msft. The steps followed to
configure Server 2 are:-
a) Run MSExchange Setup/Forestprep
b) Run MSExchange Setup/Domainprep
c) Run MSExchanmge Setup and install MS Exchange 2000
d) Install MS SQL Server 2000
e) Install MS Outlook
f) Configure Outlook and check the email deliveries
between 2 Accounts. Works perfectly.
g) Run Enterprise Manager of SQL Server/ Management /
Right Click Properties
And in the General Tab we need to provide the mail session
configuration(mail profile) - Which according to SQL Server
Training Kit is "MS Exchange Settings"- But for some
reason I don't get this settings even thought my Exhange
Server is working fine and I can send email etc.
I have tried 2 different Server but for some reason the MS
SQL is not able to see the Mail Profile Settigs which are
configured in Outlook.
Help please.

Virtual Test Lab Help Needed
I am trying to setup a lab environment to help me with my MCSE training using VirtualPC 2004. I am sure plenty of people use VPC or VMWare for this but I cannot find any articles on how anyone actually got everything to work. What I am looking for is the ability to keep my existing workgroup the same and set up a Virtual domain with internet access using VirtualPC 2004. Here is my current setup
1.) I have a router with a builtin print server attached to a DSL mode
2.) The router provides DHCP for all client
3.) I have 4 clients attached to the router, 2 PCâ??s, 1 Laptop, 1 XBO
4.) All clients are WinXP and Win2K Pro in a workgroup. No server
5.) The WinXP client has VPC 2004 installed
How do I setup my Virtual Win2K domain controller to provide DHCP and DNS to my virtual domain clients when it is up and running while still having internet access
I am not looking for details like "Go to the Control Panel, Click on Network and Dial up connections" I just need to know if anyone has done this with a similar setup and how they did it

Prospect of MCSE truly frightening
Buzzzzzzzz! went my doorbell this morning. I stumbled down stairs to answer
the door still weary from a late night drinking session. Our posty, a
female, gave me a wink and handed over the post. This seemed a little
unusual, but I thought no more of it until I saw a little hand written note
with a number and 'call me' written on it. Dumbfounded I started to go
through my post, bills, more bills, junk mail and wait, "what's this" I said
aloud. A slim A4 box with the beautifully inscribed Microsoft logo. I felt
my heart rate increase slightly and my cheeks blush a little. I gently slid
my fingers through the seal and the box opened. I thought I detected a
slight scented aroma playing in the air and an almost imperceptible scream
in the distance. My mind raced to decipher the sound and an image of a
screaming throng sprung to mind.
And then there it was, my lapel pin. I gently picked it up and held it aloft
to admire it's beauty. As the morning sunshine came through the window the
light danced off the highly polished surface. I pinned it on my chest and
turned to my wife and children who'd just joined me. My wife looked at me
in a way that she hadn't since the honeymoon night. My son asked if he
could touch it, but I of course said 'No son, only a man can wear this' and
strangely for the first time he just accepted this and looked on as though
in awe.
I decided that I would go for a little stroll around the town to show off my
trophy. I dressed smartly wearing my brightest cardigan and my genuine
leather sandals. I walked to the shed got my bicycle, tucked my trousers
into my socks, clipped up my helmet and cycled off to town. I looked down
to gaze at my pin, but it wasn't there, I stopped, panic stricken and
deflated. But no, it was there still firmly affixed where I had placed it.
I felt a little guilty, as if Microsoft would ever supply a pin that wasn't
crafted from quality materials and would fall so easily. I went to mount my
cycle once more and noticed a group of young ladies gathered around me. I
smiled a sheepish grin and they giggled. On of them stepped forward and
asked for my autograph. I agreed quickly and asked where she would like me
to sign. She slowly clasped the hem of her blouse and began to raise it up.
She looked at me intently and I felt a small bead of sweat trickle down my
forehead. I leapt to my saddle and raced down the lane back towards home.
I arrived home and carefully but quickly wiped down my bicycle before
locking it securely. I then slipped indoors checking the coast was clear
first. I removed my pin, placed it into a brown envelope, sealed it and
wrote in large letters 'not to be worn when dressed up'
As a result of this day I am reconsidering whether to risk going for an

Cert Rant for MCSE 2K3 Upgrades
<rant>
On a serious note...
So I am studying for my 70-296. (yes, i am trying to be productive and goofy
at the same time. work's okay)
I am using selftest software. There is clustering in the prep questions.
It's also in the "Skills Being Measured" section:
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/exams/70-296.asp
I looked through my upgrading skills 2000 to 2003 for MCSE/2210 workboot
text. noting on it.
I don't have the MCSA workbook, but I am pretty sure that it wasn't covered.
I know i took the courses very early in the game, but still....
My company paid full price for those courses and workbooks. They should have
covered all the objectives. :-(

Possible Bad Question
I'm taking a practice test for the 70-218 using the CramMaster software.
Question:
Jennifer is an employee of a company called XYZ Dimensions Inc. located in
Chicago. Jennifer is currently using a stand-alone Windows 2000 Professional
workstation, named JennyW2KP, to use a locally installed graphics editing
application. As the administrator, you are going to add JennyW2KP to the
Windows 2000 Domain, named XYZDimensions.edu, which currently consists of
one Windows 2000 Server Domain Controller and four Windows 2000 Professional
workstations.
Before adding JennyW2KP to the XYZDimensions.edu Domain, you use the Local
Group Policy MMC snap-in on JennyW2KP and configure the account lockout
policy to lock out Jennifer's local user account after three bad logon
attempts. Afterwards, you configure the Default Domain Controllers Policy to
lockout Jennifer's Domain Account after two bad logon attempts.
What will be Jennifer's result if she attempts to logon to the Windows 2000
Network using her Domain Logon account and providing an invalid password
both times? Select the correct answer.
A Jennifer will be locked out of the Windows 2000 Network for a
configured amount of time designated by the administrator.
B Jennifer will be allowed three more logon attempts to the Windows
2000 Network because the Local Group Policy and Default Domain Controllers
Policy cumulatively allow her five bad logon attempts.
C Jennifer will be allowed one more logon attempt to the Windows 2000
Professional machine because the Local Group Policy allows her three bad
logon attempts.
D Jennifer will be allowed one more logon to the Windows 2000 Network
because the Local Group Policy overrides the Group Policy.
Correct answer:
B Jennifer will be allowed three more logon attempts to the Windows
2000 Network because the Local Group Policy and Default Domain Controllers
Policy cumulatively allow her five bad logon attempts.
Explanation:
Jennifer is using a Domain User account, which is impacted by the settings
the administrator configured in the Default Domain Controllers Policy.
My question is, since she is not logging on to a domain controller, I
thought she wouldn't be affected by the default doamin controllers policy,
therefore, her account should be locked out.
Am I way off base here or is this a bad question?

Hi,
How can I force a replication of AD between sites. I can force within a site

WINS server not a WINS client
Hi to everyone,
taking a practice test for 70-216 I found out a question stateing a WINS
server was not working becasue it was not a WINS client too.
Can someone explain this?
AFAIK a WINS client connect to a WINS server using the server IP address.
There should be no (WINS related) need for the WINS client to resolve the
WINS server name.
Kind regards,
Corrado Tag: Exam 70-282 - SBS2003 Tag: 114098

Elective(s) Question
Hi -
I've taken & passed all of my core exams, time to move on to the electives.
I had planned on taking the two SQL 2000 exams to get my MCDBA along with
the MCSE... however, I'm getting tired of studying and a little lazy now
that spring is almost upon us.
A question / clarification... if I'm reading Microsoft's site right, I can
take the comptia security+ exam & that will satisfy both elective
requirements. Is that correct? If so, I'm going that route... don't think
I can swallow two more exams. Know far more about security than SQL, anyway
:-)

I think my brain took a dump
I have been studying for 70-210 for awhile now and my transcender
scores went down. I also developed diahrea and started losing my hair.
Should I just concentrate on 2003 server instead. Or maybe my brain just
took a dump... Maybe it is because I recently moved my desk and now I
cant log in to 2k server.
Peace

http://judiciary.senate.gov/testimony.cfm?id=1085&wit_id=2514
Some excerpts:
"Mr. _____ began working for the majority in the Nominations Unit of the
Judiciary Committee on September 19, 2001. He was interviewed and hired by
Mr. _____, the Republican Staff Director for the Committee at that time. Mr.
_____'s responsibilities involved the handling and processing of nominations
paperwork. Later he was given additional responsibilities, including
researching for the Committee's attorneys and speaking with the Department
of Justice's Legislative Affairs and Legal Policy representatives. He stated
that he worked for Ms. _____ and Mr. _____.
According to Mr. _____, he became aware that he could access the files of
Democratic staff some time in October or November of 2001. He made this
discovery after watching the Committee's Systems Administrator, Mr. _____,
perform some work on his computer. An admittedly curious person, Mr. _____
attempted to duplicate what the System Administrator had done after Mr.
_____ left his workspace. According to Mr. _____, he accessed "My Network
Places/Entire Network/Judak." In so doing, he was able to observe all of the
users' home directories. He then clicked on different folders to see which
ones he could access; he was able to access some folders, but not others.
The folders that he could access, he stated, belonged to both Republican and
Democratic staff.
...
The fact that not all security events were audited significantly inhibited
this investigation because permission changes could not be analyzed on any
computer. When a user account is created, the System Administrator assigns
that user access to certain privileges and resources on the network. If the
system is not properly configured, users may be able to change their level
of access and privileges. Because the System Administrators were not
auditing permission changes, the forensic review was unable to produce a
history of who had access to the files containing the Democratic documents
at issue. This trend of not fully logging security events began before the
the Committee's server upgrade in April of 2003. When the Committee migrated
from Windows NT to Windows 2000 in April 2003, the same log settings were
preserved and, as a result, the logging continued to be inadequate for a
comprehensive security audit.
...
Our investigation revealed that some user home directories were set to
"open" permissions and other home directories were set to "strict"
permission. This appears to be a result of the Judiciary Committee Network
having two System Administrators during the time frame in question. One
System Administrator had very strict account policies in place and the other
did not.
...
In conversations I've had with Mr. _____ since we spoke, it has come to
light that I was not instructed to set such user permissions on each folder
under the old system. This was an oversight in teaching me how to set up the
accounts. My assumption was that these permissions were restricted by some
other means, and as I was taking over an already functioning system, I did
not think to double check this area of security." Tag: Exam 70-282 - SBS2003 Tag: 114071

Is it worth the $$ for more wallpaper
I am getting ready to test for the MCP and working towards the MCSE just
wondering if the wallpaper is worth the $$. Also wondering how much
harder the real test is compared to transcender.
With questions like:
Your company has recentley purchased 700 computers with Windows 2000 Pro
installed. You are planning on using them for the accounting dept. You
are running 2 Subnets, SubnetA and SubnetB. On SubnetA you are running a
DHCP and DNS. On SubnetB you are running 230 Windows NT 4.0 computers.
You plan on connecting the 700 Windows 2000 Pro computers to SubnetB.
They must have access to SubnetA and must have access to the internet
which is provided by a proxy server also on SubnetA. You come into work
on monday October 10th at 7 am. Feeling the effects of the 7 cups of
coffee you had for breakfast you rush to the men's room with a sense of
urgency. While sitting on the porcelain throne of kings you realize
that you are in the ladies room and have been operating without a WINS
server which is probably the reason those damn Win NT 4.0 computers
never have been worth a M$hit. Upon this startling revelation you
realize that there is no toilet paper or paper towels in the entire
bathroom. After careful deliberation you decide to use one of your
elastic support hose to wipe and you walk like John Wayne to your desk.
At your desk You fire up your computer only to get the cryptic message
"ntldr missing"
What should you do first?
A. call the damn janitor and give him hell about the toilet paper
B. boot from the Windows 2000 Pro CD and Run the //\.RfCpyplntHed.exe
C. stop drinking so much coffee before work
D. sneak out before anyone sees you and call in sick
E. pretend to be working and act annoyed when approached by co workers
F. NONE of the AboVe
But seriously do they purposely create those time consuming questions
just to increase your frustration and lower your IQ measurably during
the exam?
Peace
