Hi Jason,

As I have said before I like the Self-Paced Traning books from Microsoft
Press. The one you should look for is MCSA/MCSE Self-Paced Training Kit
(Exam 70-291): Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft® Windows
Serverâ?¢ 2003 Network Infrastructure
(http://www.microsoft.com/MSPress/books/5433.asp). They are clear, concise,
and written to the exam. As well they come with the Readiness Review Suite
practice exams which have always been a big help to me.

Very important: respect the exam, but do not psyche yourself out. do not
worry about how others do. Study, practice, and pass!

Good luck and let us know how you do!

I used the MCP book and included measureUP for 290 (passed with 880). I
felt it didn't prepare me for the types of questions they asked, I didn't
even know there was going to be sims on the test. Also the measureUP had
these complicated matching/order of tasks which were totally not on the
test.
I am going to begin study for 291 and unsure if the MCP book is the way to
go. Should I use another practice suite to supplement?

i'm studying for the 70-294 exam. i am trying to see how i would implement
password policies. This is what i think is by going into active directory
users and computers, right click the domain, click properties and click on
the group policy tab. click new and type DomainPasswordPolicy for the GPO
and press enter. and then to define password polices is to double click
domain password policy and in the Group Policy Object Editor, under computer
configuration, expand windows settngs, expand security settings, expand
account policies and then click password polices and then i can enforce
settings. let me know if this is correct.

Now the second part. there are 2 departments let say accounting and sales.
how do i enforce password policy for just the sales department without
affecting the accounting department. i'm assuming i have to set the gpo and
link this to sales department, how do i do this?

Hi Douglas,

Let me get this straight in my head, so we're clear: You used MS Press to
study for an exam, you passed with 880 (really an excellent score), and you
feel you were not fully prepared for the exam?

So we're clear... It sounds to me like you were very clear. The book may
not have told you the form of the questions, but you obviously had the
knowledge needed to pass. The list questions were harder than what was on
the test? I agree, I hate that... but you got an 880 and that in my mind is
validation of the study materials used!

Thank you Montreal. You confirmed some of my own convictions and I also
recommend the MS Press book. I've still seen some failure with this however.
Could be that the folks who struggle don't know how to use the guide though.
I tell folks if they're going to study for the 291, use the mspress kit and
DO the exercises.

I guess I'm thinking that the test is based on KB and Whitepaper docs.
I've been toying with the idea of making a website with an index of relevant
KB articles that match the test objectives. I thought that this might be a
better resource than the MS press kit or any others. What do you think?
Does such a site already exist? I know when I read the WSUS deployment
guide, alot of lights turned on for me and helped my understanding
tremondously.

Jason, very interesting idea. If you'd be willing to support CertGuard a
little, and spend a little of your free time on it, I will definitely
contribute as much as I can, and I would definitely get it up on the
CertGuard website with your name as a major contributor.

If you're interested, e-mail me @: newsgroups <at> certguard <dot> com, or
register in my forums and we can work something out in there.

Montreal,
Firstly, thank you for validating my score, I didn't realize that was
considered an "excellent" score. I just hadn't compared notes with anyone
and assumed that was only decent.
Secondly, what really turned me off at the test was when I realized that the
questions on the real test relied more on trivia type facts whereas the
practice focused on more involved complicated scenarios. (eg NTFS/share
ermissions with many groups and denys etc. I spent many practice hours
killing myself to work out those questions in short time and then found out
that they don't exist. frustrating.

I guess in retrospect I was coming down too hard on the MSP books - they are
very clear and concise. I did find some minor errors, though. It is
reassuring to hear that you recommend it for 291 as well. In fact I have
already begun plowing through the text.

That would be sweet. But make sure your links don't stale out on you, I hate
when KB links don't work. That would be a nice reference.
