    - Newbie Hi, I've just joined this group (as recommended by Microsoft themselves) and I was wondering whether anyone can help me. I will be taking "Install, configure and administer Windows 2000 Professional (070-210)" in February and I need to know what to expect. What score do I need to pass? If I fail, can I retake for free?     - Sorry. html newsreader needs fixing - Microsoft??? Recently, I have noticed others slamming posters for not using carriage return. I was wondering what the hell they were on about; every post looked fine to me. I use the Web version of reading these newsgroups so I can follow threads while I am at various work places. Much easier for me. Usually, I go to www.microsoft.com/traincert. Press Community link on the left. Follow the link to your fave Web Based client. Every post looks well formatted. Its actually pretty funny that you visited my site and notice that yes, I have a ton of certifications, but thats because I was trainer and MADE sure I was certified in the products I taught on, onl fair right? Why tell a student how they can train to be a Certifie 'whatever' when the trainer is not certified on anything. Damn, I hav seen this thousands of times. Also, if you havent noticed, I spend 50 of my free time writing certification study guides for companies lik Que, etc. Ummmm, I guess it would also make sense for me to have thos certs too, no? Ok next, am actually an executive in a very large company so I manage a larg group of people... all of which I work with to get certified o products we run. I guess if you do the math from what I just said, you would realize work around the clock on this crap so it would probably make sense tha after 7 years of taking exams... I would have accumulated this much Also, I listed out all the certs I got, in no particular order so tha when I consult for jobs, some people know what an MCP or CNA is, bu not a CNE. Also, for the person who was nice enough to call me a loser because havent taken the CCIE (and you are only an MCSA), well damn dude, yo must not really know what that entails (if you were actually serious) I have purchased and built a home lab for the Cisco Security CCIE an have been working on it now 3 months. I have 9 friends who know 130 more about Cisco than I do and all have failed the lab at least once some twice, 2 passed, all the rest keep trying. The exam just change formats (AGAIN) and a ton of new crap was added, so more equipmen needs to be purchased.     - Recommended Study Guides for actually learning meaterial and taking the exames I'm trying to spend my money wisely and get a consenses on the most helpful study guides out there. Neither do I want to be the "paper mcse" but learn and keep what I learn. Does anyone prefer one set of kits to another? Microsoft, exam cram, etc...?     - How much study time for MCSE Hi all, have just ordered the self paced books for the core elements of the 2003 Server MCSE and wondered how much study time you would recommend before sitting the first exam. I have no experience of 2003 Server but am fairly competent in a pure Windows 2000 Server/Client environment, albeit in a small business scenario. Also have about 4 years experience dealing with end user situations using all OS's from 95 up to XP pro. I have already received the 180 day trial versions and have a machine ready for practical experience. I created a global group today to assign permissions to a resource in a different domain but it wouldn;t work, I had to use a Domain Local group for that.     - MCSE or Bust I need some serious advise here since I've been following this newsgroup for about 8 months. My goal is NOT to become a paper MCSE, rather to really learn the material and apply it towards certs and hopefully to real life situations. As a administrator of a member server, I do not have domain admin priveleges, which leaves me with some good experience with basic permissions and network concepts. Wish I had access to the domains DC, but I'm not a domain admin or have those rights. For a year now, I've completed the class work and labs for 270, 215, 216, 217, 220, 218 towards a MCSE at a respectable IT college which has given me good/basic foundational knowledge to sit the certs. I have just completely the 216 and 220 classes last month which leaves me with exchange to take this month. My goal has always been to learn so I could apply the material and that is why I have put off the cert scene in hopes I would understand this newly acquired knowledge so I could better apply it to real life rather than memorizing tests, i.e. testkings! Since the 216 and 220 classes, I feel very comfortable and ready to tackle the certs. My question to all of you pro's is which one to start with. I've completed the 216 and 220 a few weeks ago and have been preping for the 216, but my close MCSE friend says to not sit the 216 for your first MCSE exam. I have Cram Master, Boson, Cert Times, Transcenders test simulators along with all the study guides and a library of CBT's, and the Microsoft library. All of these resources are invaluable which give me different perspectives and scenarios to apply and learn from. Where do I go from here...which exam first??? Right now I'm a Junior in high school, and planning on taking a MCSE course at my local vocational center my senior year.     - OT: Paisleyskye Paisleyskye, First of all I am not here to enter into the "Flame War, I am a simple systems analyst contractor that finds all this rather amusing. Paisleyskye, I think you need to, as the Americans say, "Chill Out". The messages posted here which seem to be causing you so much concern are no more than background noise, the content of which you will find within the average office environment even in the [overly] "politically correct" UK. While I do not care to participate to such message posting, I do however read the harmless chitchat amongst the members of this group, much of which makes me laugh. Granted much of which is off topic, but those people are not criminals. In many of your messages I have read today, you mention how people are "TORTURED", well I see little in this group to backup such remarks. The only "people" who are "TORTURED" are the spammers, trolls and brain dump pioneers which together only serve to undermine the status of an MCSE. I personally do not indulge in "TORTURING" those type worthless people, however the people who do so have my full backing, it's a shame Microsoft does not do more to stop the troll's, spammer's etc, etc from ruining the certification experience for the rest of us. I took the trouble to have a look at the article posted on the ICertify.net site, I remember many of the messages you mention, all of which are of a humorous nature. As such, anyone who sees those posts as anything more than people laughing and joking around should seek help before they top themselves, they certainly would not last five minutes in some of the offices/departments I've worked in. The only post I saw which could be deemed as offensive was the one which questioned your sexuality; rather uncalled for, but I understand the message poster has apologised to you, which to me, shows a level of maturity you will not find within a spammer, troll or brain dump pioneer. I also notice that several of the MCNGP "members" have posted replies on at least one of the forums maintained by you. Half expecting this "Flame War" to decent in to your own area, I was pleasantly surprised by the constructiveness and good nature of the replies posted by those "thugs" as you would have them known as. One final point I will bring to your attention; you make reference to "newbies" who are also abused. Well as far as I am aware the mcse certification is not targeted at "newbies". There are already too many paper mcse's in existence who achieve the title without out having any worthwhile "real world" experience. In any case I don't see "newbies" getting abused in the newsgroup, I do however see many idiotic messages many of which are repeated over and over again, by people who clearly do not have the ability and experience to legitimately become an mcse. Again this is a problem Microsoft has not addressed, so the problem continues despite companies saying "Please, no more paper MCSE's". In one of you messages you mention that people have to start somewhere, well I completely agree, however the MCSE certification is not the starting point. An MCSE needs to have more than the ability to simply download and memorise answers to the multitude of "practice tests" out there, the practice of which only helps to undermine the value of the MCSE title. Hi all, My, things have certainly changed since the old NT4 MCSE days when the cramsession study guides were free :) I used them as a last minute recap on the way to the test centre.     - Trust problem Following the guides in my MS Press book (Upgrading your Certification to Windows 2003) on creating a cross forest trust with Windows 2003. I have raised the domain level and forest levels to Windows Server 2003, rebooted yet when I try to create any kind of trust i get an error message: The operation failed. The error is: This operation cannot be performed on the current domain. I have tried domain, forest, one way in/ou, and am at a loss. Both servers are on the same subnet, same ip range, i can ping DNS and IP. Only one account on each server, it has full admin rights to everything.     - Dfs Replication Policy I am trying to configure the replication policy on my Dfs setup but the selection is greyed out. I checked to insure that the file replication service is running- it is. on "Integrated Windows Authentication" for IIS 6.0. One
book says that Integrated Windows Auth will work through
proxy and firewalls, but another says it won't.

The simple answer is no it does not. As stated here :

For exam purposes I would always suggest that you regard Windows
Integrated Auth for intranet purposes only and not for use with
Internet clients.
