Prometric vs. Pearson Vue
I've only taken Thomson Prometric tests to get my certs, and was
considering trying out the Pearson Vue tests. Has anyone tried both?

Win 2k Server and the Services will not stop.
Has anyone any idea about this problem im having? Its a Win 2k Server and
the Services will not stop.
They go into a stopping state then timeout and stay in a stopping state,
they never get to stopped. It's all services too not any particular ones.
It is attached to an APC UPS which i wouldnt have believed but on the
website it does state that v6 of there software can cause this and recommend
going onto v7.
Ok but on installing v7 it needs to create 2 new agent services and yep
you've guessed it, it cant!
Not onsite now, but any ideas how to rectify this? I dont think it will
allow me to install in safe mode or would it? Or anyone else got a link to
any knowledge base re the services as I can't for the life of me find one.
Or is it something else?

College degree or Certification?
Hi there,
In the IT world, which one of college degree or certification is more
important, provided the person has enough job experience in the field? My
guessing are college degree (above associate or bachelor) can advantage to
get management position, and certification can advantage to get technical
position. Am I right? Can the person who has lot of experience and
certifications and has no college degree still can promote to management
position in the US? I would like to hear other opinions.

I passed exam 70-298 with flying collars. Actually I did not have much
idea about Designing Security for a Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Network so I was very fearful. I must say that preparation kit from
uCertify helps me a lot. It helps me in enhancing my knowledge and also

unattended installation problem
hi, when i performed an unattended installation by using the answer file, i
found that the unique information such as the computer name and the ip
address have not been configured as they are in the answer file but the
computer define an alternative configuration randomaly and doesn't take the
answer file's configurationj, even if i use the udf file with the answer

Question: I have only two exams left to complete my MCSE 2000 - 70-216 and
217.
I have been sitting on my thumbs for the last 2 years and never finished the
remaining two.

MS Self-Paced Training Book for 70-292 & 70-296 Observation
Hi all. This is my first post here.
I'm currently reading the Self-Paced book for 70-292, and found a very
questionable paragraph in "Recovering From System Failure" on page 13-41.
Here it is:
"Performing a system state backup automatically forces the backup type to
Copy, although the interface might not indicate that fact. Take that fact
into consideration when planning whether to include other items in your
backup selection."
This to me sounds like if you try to do a normal, incremental, differential,
or daily backup of data in the same job you're doing a System State backup,
the whole job will change to a copy backup with no notice.
This didn't sound right to me, so I did a test on my Win 2K3 test network.
What it does is it backs up your data with whatever method you chose, then it
changes to copy for the System State backup.
Just FYI if you know anyone studying out of this book.

Error when installing Active Directory (Windows Server 2003)
I'm setting up a CHILD DOMAIN (to join HQ Domain) and when I perform DCPROMO,
at the end of the process I receive the following error.
Active Directory could not create the object CN=PKLANG, CN=Partitions,
CN=Configuration, DC=my, DC=global, DC=com. Check the event log for possible
system errors.
"The FSMO role ownership could not be verified because its directory
partition has not replicated successfully with at least one replication
partner."
Considering this is not the first time I am doing this (already done several
times before on other sites and never encountered such issue) I need to know
what is the cause of this and how come in all of a sudden such error can
occur. Could it be any data corruption at the HQ Domain/Active Directory? I
hope not.
Any help or kind of assistance would be much appreciated. Thank you.

This is the kind of post I'd make to the s00per sekr1t site, but seeing as
it's currently being rebuilt, I'm posting here.
Any of you have satellite radio? Sirius or XM? If so, what do you think
about it? I have DirecTV, and the music channels are XM. There's probly 40
or so on DirecTV, and many more on the "real" XM, and I'm kind of addicted.
Minimal commercials, wide selection of music, blah blah blah. However, as
many of you know, I'm a pretty big Howard Stern fan. So Sirius would
probably be the one I get if/when I do decide to spring for it. I know all
about the cost differences, sports packages, etc, but I'm looking for any
user reviews, especially from people I trust, not some random message board
on the InterNeil. So, what do you all think of satellite radio, and Sirius
in particular, if you have any experience with it?

Activation Microsoft Virtual Machines?
Hi Guys,
i just got the Learning Materials to study MCSE from the Institute including
the Virtual Machines which I'm going to work on. I have setup a lap and I
installed the Virtual P.C 2004. Also, I have got the Windows 2274C-DEN-DC1,
2274C-DEN-CL1, 2274C-DEN-SRV1 ect. But in order to work on those machinse, I
have to activate them by a product key.
Due to the Network Configurations they have Static IP Address using Class A
IP Addressing, and that's why I can't access to the internet through them and
do the activation. Even though, I can't get into it and do change the
configurations of the IP Address.

emulate dial-up connections.
Hi all,
I am currently working through the self paced training kits for MCSA/E
2003.
I was wondering if there is a way to emulate dial-up modem connections
for routing and remote access training. I have access to vmware gsx,
workstation and MS virtual PC for virtualisation of my network.
Any ideas on the subject?

indulge my obsessive-compulsive disorder to catch up on your FRIGGIN USELESS
POASTS! Our intarweb was down today until about 4:30 PM, which gave me 1/2
hour to attempt to CATCH UP. So now I'm having to catch-up from home. My
kids got NO ATTENTION FROM DADDY tonight, thanks to YOU. Oh, yeah, and
because of my OCD, too. Obviously I failed as I have not braindumped my
speed-reading exam, and I also failed my GetOverYour OCD Exam.
Now...I WANT TO SLEEP so if I see so much as ONE POAST from either of you
tomorrow morning that is date/time stamped BEFORE 8:00 AM I'm coming up
there, and there's GOING TO BE TROUBLE.

Bootcamps / Learquick
Howdy all. I am an IT pro with 13 years in my belt but have found that
everyone wants a little piece of paper with MCSE stamped on it these days.
So I am looking a couple of options.
1. Boot Camps - Anyone have experience with these? $7995 is alot to spend
for 2 weeks of training. Are they worth it?
2. www.learnquick.com - 1/2 the cost of the boot camp and only takes a
week. Has anyone used this and have comments on them?

Which tests?
I was working through my MCSE 2000 about two years ago when RL caused a
lengthy interruption in my progress. I've got 210, 215, 216, and 217 down and
I'd like to go right into the 2003 stuff and finish out the cert. Which
