    - MCSE suffix added to printed name...pretentious? I just completed my MCSE/MCSA certs, after years of actually working with and supporting the product. Actually I manage the IT department for a large school district. I see that a lot of people add the MCSE suffix to their names in their signatures, and was wondering what the overall reaction is to that before I start putting it on my signatures. Is it more prevalent from the people who haven't yet "been there, done that", or is it common even for those who have already proven themselves?     - Using VMWare as a test lab? I want to setup a test lab in my home..... for learning purposes naturally. I currently only have one PC at home.... a Dell 4100... 512 meg ram.... 45 gig drive.....     - EXAM 70-226 query and interpretation? I just sat the Designing Web Infrastructure exam 70-226.. I did not pass. I work with Web Infrastructure everyday and used the following exam preparation questions from www.measureup.com. It seems that the answers they gave and their explanations was what I understood and deemed correct. Unfortunately there were similar exam questions and I answered according to what I learnt from the www.measureup.com study guides. It seems to me that there answers and explanations are INCORRECT and is not what Microsoft have as the answers. I only did not know 2 questions the rest answered according to what I learnt from measureup. IS Microsoft's only real true study guide reference only transcendors. Please explain..     - Subnetting Problem Contd Two days ago I posted the follwing question from the MS Trng Kit for 70-216. I received several responses but none that really explained why the answer to the question was selection 'd.' So, I lined out in binary form all of the eight IP addresses. It turns out that the 'd' answer that changes the subnet mask to 0/21 isolates the right most 3 bits of the 3rd octet. With the 0/21 mask there are two nets using 24 and 30 in the second octet. Then the host addresses are changed by one in the third octet. But, the question remains, why does this make the routing tables simpler for the router? Interesting problem, don't you love that MS does not give an explanation. "You are the new administrator of a 2000 node network. There is only one router on the entire network, which provides all the computers with Internet access.     - You have to think like Microsoft I've been installing/maintaining Microsoft server/client environments 6+ years. Although I'm just starting to take the tests for the MCSE, I thought I could take the tests with minimal studying. I failed the 70-270 test the first time (The Exam Cram 2 book is worthless and I hate that they don't tell you what your score was, but that is a different post all together), passed the test the second time. The key, besides understanding the material, is that you need to think like Microsoft. I found myself answering the questions with answers that weren't options. Like in the 70-216 sample question I have a scenario where the 2 of the 3 network segments can't get IP addresses through the router. Being a Cisco guy, I say, heck configure the router with DHCP relay and then they will get the info from the DHCP just fine. That's not an option in the answers, Microsoft wants you to use Microsoft, so you install the relay agent on each of the segments that is not getting their DHCP and yada, yada, yada. Know the material, hands on, reading (because hands on doesn't always give you Microsoft's preferred way) and THINK like Microsoft! That's just my opinion. Tag: MOC 2154 Tag: 91355

    - net use and dos printing across domains I've got an archaic piece of dos software that does not print correctly from win2000 or winXP. To resolve the problem I use the following command: net use lpt1: \\computername\printername /persistent:yes This works perfectly, except when attempting to access resources in another domain. To access the domain, I would normally have to provide a username and password; however, net use only asks for a password. Obviously this gets me nowhere, regardless of the password provided.
