    - 70-291 - Didn't fail! But then I didn't pass either. Four questions into the test, it booted me out and wouldn't restart (a PCPREP.EXE error message IIRC). After the testing centre spent an hour on the phone to Prometric tech support (during which time they put the phone down on them), they rescheduled a new test for me, to begin immediately. The second attempt did the same thing after the 15th question. I guessing that it might be the sim questions causing it to fail. So anyway, I wasted a day off from work and now I'm gonna have to take another one in order to take my first attempt at this exam. I am utterly pissed off.     - 70-290. Cannot pass and need advice! Hi. I've tried and failed the 70-290 twice! First time I studied nothing but Trancender and got 568. Second time bought MSPress training kit, studied measure-up questions, studied some br@indumps, took test and still got same score!! Second test was totally different than first test. I bought the ExamCram2 book but its hopelessly brief and doesn't go into the detail that the MSPress book does. I find the 70-290 test questions to be granular and mostly not covered in either of the books I mentioned. I don't know what to study anymore! Should I continue with studying questions? I'm mostly appealing this quesion to people who have failed twice and passed the third time. Does anyone who tried twice and passed the third time recommend any questions or reading material?     - 70-293 Book Question I think this is in all the book s in the series, but at the back of the MS Press Self Paced Training book for 70-293, there is an ad for Pearson VUE. The ad line is "Confident. Intelligent. Secure. She must be a Microsoft Certified Professional..." My question is, where the fark are the MCPs who look like that?     - Why Doesn't MCDST Count For MCSE I am looking to upgrade my MCSE from 4.0 to Server 2003. I understand having to take various tests again. But what I don't understand is the worthlessness of my MCDST in this regard. When I studied for my MCDST, I found that the materials for 70-271 and 70-272 were awful. I found the 70-270 materials much better, used them, and based on passing both tests on my first shot, my instincts were correct. The material on the combined 70-271/272 is pretty much the same as 270. At least it is from the Microsoft website. Why does MS force an MCDST to take 70-270 ??? Tag: 70-029 Tag: 165126

    - Microsoft Exams I have recenty been trawiling through ebay for Cisco equipment for when i eventually study my CCNA Exam (i am yet to do any of the Microsoft ones). Anyway as i was looking through the vairous adversts i cam accross an advert which offered the certificates for a fee of Â£2000 - Â£3000 pounds. All the required is your name address and DOB. I am just on the 1st rung of the certifcation ladder myself and from what i have read on the examination body websites students need to bring ID with them to sit the exam. I have read about briandumps etc on the microsoft website but someone siting the exam for a fee for somone else takes the biscuit. Nedless to say i enquired about the other certifications they did and reported them to the respective Micrsosoft Cisco and CompTia I am unfortunate to be in a posation where someone who was supposadly be certified comes to me for ansers to common problems. PHILADELPHIA - Doctors who fail the American Board of Surgery written exam are no longer allowed to review their tests privately after one man wrote down the answers to dozens of questions and offered them for sale on the Internet. The board found out last summer that 86 questions used on its 290-question multiple-choice exam were listed on eBay. Board officials said it took just a few anonymous e-mail exchanges with the auctioneer to reach the doctor who had obtained the questions. "These are the actual certifying general surgery board questions with correct answers, guaranteed to improve your test score," the auctioneer wrote in August 2004. "A friend of mine failed this written exam, paid the $100 sitting fee and flew to Philadelphia to review his test. ... Why take the chance at failing, getting a year behind your peers...? Get an advantage now!" Craig Edward Amshel, a rectal specialist from St. Augustine, Fla., failed the 2002 exam. But, as was the practice at the time, he was later allowed to review his test, alone, at the board's offices in downtown Philadelphia for several hours. Amshel sold two or three sets of questions for $180 to $300, said his lawyer, David R. Dearden. "I was able to take notes very quickly and wrote down about 100 questions with the correct answer," Amshel wrote in an e-mail to a person posing, on the board's behalf, as someone preparing to take the 2004 exam. "Believe me, I was quite thrilled when I took the test last year as some questions were verbatim." Amshel, who passed the 2003 test, has had his board certification revoked. The board sued him in federal court in Philadelphia last fall, alleging copyright infringement and civil theft. Amshel admitted to a copyright violation but not the accusation of civil theft. He agreed to pay $36,000, the estimated cost of assembling teams of surgeons to go through the process of creating and testing new questions. "This is a sad incident - first, because it's so bizarre, but also because it says so much about the person's disregard for the rules and ethics," said the board's lawyer, Gabriel L.I. Bevilacqua. Amshel is now focused on restoring his certification through the board's appeals process, his attorney said. "He didn't believe what he was doing was wrong," Dearden said.     - MCP Transcripts Seems VUE somehow assigned me a second MCP number and my last exam for W2K MCSE got credited under that number. The folks at MS fixed it and merged the results in my real MCP number and my last test is showing up there now. I've met all the requirements for MCSE on Windows 2K but it's not showing up under cert status on my transcript. It even shows in the cert planner I've met all the requiments. Does it take a day or so for the cert status to catch up with the exams you have passed to update or somehting? Like a procedure that runs nightly to update or something? Or... did the fact they had to manually merge my last test booger up their system? Anyone know?     - OT: The Interview - Real, Funny...Real Funny A friend of mine got an interview for a contract in-house support position. It has the option for growth into AD Administration from the get-go which is why he accepted the position. He needs the experience, but that's not what this post is about. I felt the need to share some of the things he said post interview to the staffing agency contracting the position. He arrived on site to find another guy waiting to interview. He looked over to my friend and said. "Don't worry they have to positions." My friend, we'll call him Bob went in to the interview. now Bob is an intelligent person, he is certified and he has valid AD experience, so he's calm, collected and ready. His interviewer asked him why all of his experience was 2500 miles away and now all of the sudden he's moved here. He replied, "Well my ex-wife moved here and I wanted to make sure I was close to my daughter." They told him this was a noble thing he did, so he replies, "Yes, and I'll be sure to throw that in your faces later." That's only the beginning. Later he mentioned he wanted flexibility to look for another job, as this was a contract and he really wants to find permanent employment. They advised Bob he'd need to give a day's notice before skipping work to find another job. It gets better. so Bob nails the interview and the XYZ Company hires him on the spot. now he reports back to the staffing agency to find out just how little he will be paid. He walks up to the secretary and says, "I think I'll need about $17.00 USD per hour for this job." She said, "well it's $15.00 per hour because that's what we are paying the other guy. " he replies, "What the hell does that have to do with me?" She tells him it wouldn't be fair to pay each person differently, so he asks her for the guys phone number so he can call him and they'd both as for $17.00. She then tells him, "Well this is a Non-Profit Organization and they are limited on their pay. You understand don't you?" With a quick witted reply he says, "Well my apartment complex is a for profit organization and I don't think they'd understand." Needless to say he didn't get the $17.00 per hour, instead he got $15.00 but he still got hired and was given the flexibility to find another job on a moments notice. They only ask that when he does quit that he lets them know the day before if possible. I thought this was pretty funny. Goes to show how much the interview is based on personality and hitting it off with the interviewer. Oh and how he got this interview.     - Value of MSCE certification I have read many comments, in this forum, about the value of an MCSE certification with and without experience. It reminds me of discussions, many years ago, about the value of a college degree. A college degree did not guarantee a job and college grads typically do not have much experience. So what value did the degree have that offset the tremendous cost of achieving it? Simple. Many more doors will be opened for the person that has chosen to get a college degree than one that didn't. I personally feel the same way about the MCSE. I know that it doesn't guarantee a job, but the lack of it will diminish the opportunity of getting an interview, of opening a door. I think that poeple with IT experience, but no current MCSE, are probably less likely to get a good job with another company. In other words, their skills are less portable. I have been in a number of interviews where the interviewer (an IT person) bad-mouthed the concept of certifications and yet their employment advertisement stated a requirement for certifications.     - Passed 70-290 today. Just passed the 70-290 with a score of 887. 44 questions - 4 of which were sims. Some of the sims were a little flaky. There were times I had to click more than once in order to get the response I wanted. Over all the sims are fairly easy especially if you currenly are an administrator and work with the stuff daily.     - unexpected job offer The IT field has been hopeless for me that I have switched to office clerical for two years after having had a few low-end desktop support jobs. The past few weeks I've been looking for a new job again and one hiring manager said he liked my computer background and said he'll give me a network admin job if I want it. He knows if he post a IT job ad, he'll get tons of resumes and it's hard for him to pick a good one. He has gone through with a few candidates before and they didn't work out. So while I told him what I did in my past computer jobs, he said I'm good to take care their IT needs. First I am about laugh with tears that I've chased for an IT job for years and couldn't get one. Then it comes to me when I'm least expecting it - at a time that I feel I'm totally done with the IT field. I'm not the best candidate, but the manager says I'll do fine as long as I learn them. The work is simple on a daily basis, helping the 20-some employees with simple desktop needs. But on the high level, it will involves network and email system administration, company website maintenance and security. These are big topics. I somewhat studied them to a degree and fooled around with them a bit before. But I lacked any serious work knowledge in them. I have some time to study and learn them. But in a few months, they will expect me to take care of these things. Two difficult situations come to my mind right away as they can't wait. How to handle if everyone lost internet access? How to handle if no one is getting email? I am taking this job no matter what, but do you think I should take this job as I lacked skills in the high-end tasks that I mentioned?     - SMTP Replication between Sites I am trying to get ready for the 219 tomorrow and I need some clarification on an issue. From what I can tell this is the facts about SMTP replication. Please correct me if I'm wrong. **You can replicate traffic between sites using RPC or SMTP. SMTP replication is only good for Intersite replication and cannot be for the same domain, because it cannot replicate Sysvol. If this is the case then what would be replicated between two sites that house two different domains? Would it be a copy of the schema and the configuration portion of the AD?     - Application Center 2000 question/problem I have an application problem to solve and was wondering if anyone knows of a load balancing solution capable of handling it. I have a Cluster, each node runs special services on itself, the services was added to the system. The clients will need that services added to each node of the farm to make transations. The problem is if some service on the particular node of the farm stops responding, many cliens will not be able to make any transation. Where is the load balancing here? If the services are on the nodes will be the problem? were i supose to putt that services? This is normal? The cluster is used to support request of many clients in a factory, and every node have some special services running localy on that particular node.     - simulation problems hello group I took 70-290 on Friday and just passed. However, the rumours I heard about the problems with the simulation questions were confirmed. I had 6 simulation questions and half way through 3 of them they stopped functioning. I tried to use the reset option and try the question using a different method, but it still didn't work. This was very offputting during the test as I new what I wanted to do, but couldnt actually do it. Any how I passed, but would have been a bit upset if I hadnt. 1. How difficult is it (score 1 - 10)?
2. What book do you recommend?
3. How many questions and how long?
4. Is it enough time to take the exam?
5. What type of questions? ( I haven't seen any pre-
test,or sample test.)
6. How many days(or months)should I study?
