    - 70-217 & non-authoritative restores If my understanding is correct, a non - authoritative AD restore will not update the USN of an object being restored. Once an object is restored, it will then be updated by any other DC's in the domain Last night I deleted an object (OU) as part of an exercise, and then restored it to simulate someone accidently deleting an object. Observations 1) Within 5 minutes of deleting the OU, the other DC's had also removed the O 2) Upon doing a non-authoritative AD restore, the object was immediately deleted agai 3) The only way to get it back again was to carry out an authoratitave AD Restor Questions 1) How often do Admins backup their system state 2) Is it normal for the AD object to be removed and replicated to other DC's so quickly Thank Paul Tag: 70-281 : EPM 2003 Tag: 111724

    - Removing child domains after system restore Can anyone give any pointers on the following Windows 2000 Serve Single domai Recently restored my one and only Win 2000 Server following a hard disk failure. The only working full backup I had was from December 2003. I restored the system and everything went well except for one thing. During December, I had created a child domain and then later deleted it in Jan 2004. As the backup I had was from December, when the restore completed, my domain controller kept trying to communicate with the old domain controller from the child domain to replicate with it I need to know how to remove all references to this now non-existent child domain.     - Advice sought I've been follwing this group for a couple of weeks now, and I figure that I might as well start asking questions. First, a bit of background: I'm an American who moved to Germany 1.5 years ago for family reasons. In my mid 30s (1998), I decided to make a career change, and returned to college for my CS degree. The same year, I got a job doing support for a small software company. In my time there (> 3 years), I was able to move up into programming bugfixes and enhancements. I got laid off at the start of my last year in college, and shortly after graduation moved here. Due to the crappy economy, I've only been able to get a part-time job doing embedded programming (trying to learn it on the fly), plus doing some webdesign and this and that. I feel that I have the most aptitude in the area of databases, and if this part-time gig doesn't go full-time soon, I'm going to look for something new. Now for the advice: Would it be worth it for someone in my position to pursue certification (pursue meaning to go about it the RIGHT way...no dumps/cheats, etc.)? I'll be doing it on my own, with books and a home lab. Do European (esp. German companies) place as much emphasis on certs as American companies seem to do? ISBN 0-7356-1893-3" The level of detail here is similar to the depth that was on good ole 70-058 7 or 8 years ago only up to date with newer technologies but the same level of detail. Anyone else think that too ? I hear from other exam takers and read at mcpmag.com that you need to read the deployment guide too in order to make sure that you're good and ready for the exam. What I just read in the MSPress 293 book and "Deploying Network Services" could have been written by the same person. (maybe it *was*) [Question:] Does anyone else know which areas of the deployment guide to focus on? I'm getting the feeling that not many MCSE2000's are taking the "hard route" to their 2003 certs but its important to me that I know *all* this stuff rather than just the delta so I'm in the lab for the next couple of months til I'm ready to go sit the exams :o( [Question:] I see on the CDs and references in the materials to some PDFs that they just happen to have added to the CD (cant be to just fill space). ..\Encyclopedia and ..\Sample_Chapters The contents seem to contain more detail than the MSPress book.     - SclgNtfy errors If youre installing a DC which will have only a public interface, unbiding the ms network client & file & printer sharing services from that nic will cause errors & prevent you from accessing things like the GPO's, you'll also get errors listed in the event log usually from the SclgNtfy service with the event id 1002. To get around this problem install the Loopback nic (listed in add/remove hardware>Network Adapters>Microsoft>Microsoft Loopback Adapter), & bind the ms net client & f&p sharing to it, place it on the top of the connections list in Adapters & bindings. you dont need to assign it any ip info to this nic as the apa assigned address is sufficient to make everything work.     - 70-290 Exam Duration? Anyone know how long this exam is supposed to be? I sat it today, 45 questions, and missed by 5 marks, getting 695 and needing 700. I sat it at Prometric and expected 2.5 hours but only got 1.5 hours. I'm trying to determine if I was diddled out of an hour or if Prometric have it wrong in their confirmation email.     - PAE Settings in windows 2000 Advanced server. I have a problem in configuring 6GB RAM (DDR RAM)in Intel Server Board SE7501HG2 with Intel XEON 3.2GHZ(Dual Processors). I have loaded windows 2000 Advanced server with Service pack4 in workgroup mode. The fault tolerance is been established by software raid 1 configured in the boot disk and raid5 configured in data disks. The basic purpose of the server is to run as terminal server cum file server. When I am adding the /PAE extension in the boot.ini file, it is sensing 6GB RAM, but virtual memory is not exceeding 4gb per partition. After putting server online with 15-20 users, the server is giving physical dump error with blue screen and reboots automatically. It is observed that during the opeartions in terminal services manager(reset,logout operations), the server is rebooting i.e. giving physical dump error.     - Ambilogic Boot Camp Hi all, I registered to attend an MCSE/MCSA Boot Camp with a company named Ambilogic in North Conway, NH. I paid via check in December for the session which was scheduled to begin March 1st. In January, I accepted a new position which no longer requires that I acquire these certifications. I called and emailed Ambilogic on January 26th to notify them of my need to cancel, and request the almost full refund which they promised if notice of cancellation was over 30 days from the start of the session (which this was). To make a long story short, this company has not responded at all. I leave messages which are not returned, and emails which are not answered. It's now been 10 days, and I'm starting to get a very bad feeling. Has anyone else had any experience with this company that they can relate? Or, can anyone suggest how I should proceed from here? any further experience with this exam?. It was a beta at the end of 2003, but is it already a real exam that can be taken?.
