Job Experience
Is job experience necessary to obtain a MCSE or MCSA? In
my case, I am a network admin for a small company (35
users, 2 domains, multiple locations with remote users). I
have been at this job for 4 years. The MS website shows

Exam 70-270 failed
Dear all,
I work hard this last 6 monthe to studdy all chapter of
the MCSE training Kit of windows Xp professionnal, I have
done many times the embeded test simulation at 98%.
I was then sad to see that I have failed the exam with the
score of 650 and mark was 700 so really close to get it.
UI jhave notice that a lot of question was not even
discuss in the trianing Kit and was surprise to get them
and a lot of question around, networking, VPN and security
and I guest that questions range point was high...
I will plann to pass it again soon, can I get some advise
from you and to approach best this second stage?
DO u know the the minimum score of 700 is always the same
whatever the question series or does it depends on the
questions.

My Doc's redirect syntax
I am trying to redirect the My Documents folder to a
network share. Currently we have the users profiles mapped
to their H: drive. I would like to have the my documents
redirected to H:\My Documents but I am having trouble with
the syntax. In the GPO what should my syntax be?
Either:
\\server_name\share_name\%username%\My Documents
or
H:\My Documents
or something else?

Does anyone know how to redirect the output from a
batchfile to a text file AND to screen at the same time?

Does anyone know how to change the LDAP listening port in
Exchange 2003? Windows uses port 389 and 636 SSL to
communicate with Active Directory. Exchange also uses
these ports to communicate with the Exchange directory
store. However, I have installed Exchange on my DC, and
therefore I must reconfigure Exchange's use of these
ports. Unfortunately, it is not the same process as it

70-221 Exam study/prep
Hello,
I am studying for the 70-221 exam. I am finding it very hard to study for.
I have a WIN2K server and WIN-XP desktop at home. However, much of the
stuff is geared toward multi-server network environments so I can't do any
"hands-on" practice. I am leaning towards purchasing a new server and new
desktop so I can practice DNS, VPN and other things.
Has anyone come up with any good ideas on getting the "hands-on" study other
than purchasing new computers? Does anyone know of any SIGs in the Detroit,
MI area? I have not been too successful at finding any.

I beat the 70-216 Exam & picked up my MCSA!
I just passed the 70-216 exam this afternoon...YES!
I took the exam in Prometric Centre in London, UK.
The look & feel of the exam had changed from the other
exams I took at this same center (70-210,215,218), So I
guess MS have updated some of their examinations - anyone
know anything about this?
There were 60 questions, with 135 mins to complete the
exam. I run out of time at around question 50. At the
point where I only had 5 minutes left, I just went click
crazy and answered as many question without too much
reading of the scenario - my thinking being that if I
didn't answer I wouldn't score, so by randomly selecting
answers, I may at least pick up one or two more points!
There was no scores or section scores on this exam - just
the plain old pass or fail - thankfully mine was the
former.
As to the content of the exam:-
DNS, DHCP, RRAS, routing & Certifacte services where the
dominant part of the exam.
To a lesser extent WINS, Subnetting
Good luck to anyone else taking this exam and be
encouraged that even though I ran out of time, randomly
answered some of the questions in the last few minutes,
and some of the certifacte questions where real stinkers,

So, if the administrator on the first DC in the domain is the default EFS
recovery agent and
my office grows to 5 DCs and 100 users with EFS folders all over the place
for various reasons
AND I demote the first DC because it is an old PC and tooooo slow

known as 70-216) so hopefully this one will be easier...

I hate the END TEST button at the end of the exams - I usually have plenty
of time on the clock to go back through the questions but decide to click
the button anyway and hope for the best. (This technique has worked for me
so far.)
The wait after pressing that button gets more agonising with each exam I

i want to prepare for Server 2003 certfications and have
read the specifications for eveluation pack of Server
2003. it says min req is 133 MHz/ 128 RAM processor but
recommended is 733 MHz/ 254 RAM. i will have to buy one.
i have questions:
1) is P3 477 MHz/ 256RAM a good enough option?
2) does it make any diffrence if i use laptop for the
purpose?

setting up the W2K server
hi,
I have a pc running on winXP home edition and intend to
install w2k server into this machine but in different
partition (E:) so that i will have dual boot system.
I was prompted with message that the disk in not set
correctly and request me to reformat this partition. After
take almost 24 hrs to format the disk which is only 5GB
and ended with error message again. This time the error
message saying disk can't be formatted properly.
I simply don't understand why the format process take so
long and initially i have formatted the drive E with Disk
Management tool from XP and find no error at all.
Any suggestion?

Mike Meyer's Certification Books
I just graduated from college in May and now that I am working, I can afford
to persue some certifications. I had two semesters of certification prep
courses that covered Wndows 2K MCSE (at the time I didn't have the extra
cash for the exams, though). At this point, however, I am more interested
in 2003 certification. My question is this: Has anyone used the Mike
Meyers' Certification Passport books? Are they useful, or should I look
somewhere else? I was looking at the smaller books because I already have a
solid understanding of 2K MCSE concepts. If anyone has any other
suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All
I had the 71-299 booked for friday at a prometric centre. I've now
cancelled as work load doesn't allow me the time for this.
I know the VUE was full, but not sure of prometric availablilty, so there
should be a space available if your quick!
