Seems to be a large crew there having similar problems:
after installing SP2 , IIS does not work.
1. IIS Manager can not start - I had this one - reinstalled IIS three times,
almost ended up with reinstalling the whole system
2. http://localhost generates HTTP 500 - Internal server error

It seems to me, M$ should do somethign with it allready.
Fixing security problems and screwing all other things - it simply sucks.
WHy should I pay you guys for the support INCIDENTS if you generate such a
huge problems, I am lossing money because of problems you introduced in your
SP2.
DO SOMETHIGN to fix the problem ONCE FOR GOOD

DOES ANYONE AT M$ knows what they are doing ?
Yes I agreed to use this message for further product improvements :-)

First, you don't need to use SP2. Second, it's hard to lose money
using SP2 because of IIS issues, SP2 installs on XP which is a
workstation operating system. IIS is limited at best on XP, to lose
money would require a server operating system.

Now, if you configure XP2's new security settings correctly, IIS works
fine. And reinstalling IIS isn't needed. Or actually even warranted.

Look at it this way. IIS worked. You installed SP2. IIS stopped.
So you reinstalled IIS. That's about like saying your TV got all 132
cable channels, then you added a DVD and your TV only got the three
local channels. So you bought a new TV. Sure, it's possible that
while hooking up your new TV you connected the cable correctly and all
your channels came back, but it wasn't your old TV's fault that you
hooked up the cable wrong.

Go back and jiggle the cables. IIS will work fine.

Dear Jeff,
thank you for your long response however, I can not rate it too high since
its like a typical MS response: 100% accurate and 100% useless

fact 1. SP 2 was released to improve security issues and solve system problems
fact 2. SP 2 screwed up the system
fact 3. You are saying: remove SP ...... I give up .. have enough - no more
talk with MS
have a nice day
