the issue of 'missing' directories is now resolved having removed anonyomus
access from the virtual directory security settings,
i would suspect because once anonymous connects to the virtual directories,
the 'IUSR' account is used for subsequent authentication, and which is not
on the ACL of the NTFS protected directories.
this is all ok, but we now get all sorts of popups for credentials to open
files (from Internet explorer), in spite of the http location being added to
the local intranet zone in which use 'automatic login' is enabled.
with windows explorer / net use command line it seems the webvdav client
does not automatically use logged-in credentials such that we are asked for
credentials as we connect to the URL;
http://server2/myvirtualdr
is this configurable so as to be the same as SMB / Net use ??
