    - Control IIS service from script Hello, I have the following configuration: IIS 5.0 running under "httpservice" user account (member of web anonymous users group) SQL Server 2000 agent running under "sqlservice" user account (member of users group) I have a maintenance job scheduled in sql server agent that needs exclusive access to the db, so I want to stop IIS within the first step of this job (the site hosted opens frequent connections to the db so it must be stopped). I set up a cmdexec job step to execute a vbs script that stops the website. The problem is that the script runs under "sqlservice" credentials and this user cannot control IIS service.     - ASP doesn't execute on host W2K Server I have a problem whereby the asp and html interface for an access database is not executing properly on the host server. The program is designed to provide an interface to fill in data into an access database through ASP and html. Works perfect on all the W98 machines on the network and a second NT Server also on the network. When I try to execute the page on the host W2K server all I get is the script for the page. (Seen below) On all the other system accessing the software on the server, it executes fine. I've even move the software over to the NT system and it executes OK on all machines and itself. I've tried adjusting the security setting on W2K but no go. Also, I set it up on a stand alone XP Home machine (No IIS etc)to see what would happen and I get the same scripted response. (I didn't expect it to execute but I figured I'd get an error.) Any ideas as to why this script won't execute. Can W2K not utilize IIS when its executed on the servers boot drive? If so, why does it work on the NT server?     - Error Code is 0xd When I try to install IIS in windows components in Windows XP Pro I get an error stating the following: Setup could not copy one or more files. The specific error code is 0xd.     - Windows Integrated Authentication returning "Server not found or DNS Error" This one may be for the microsoft internal development staff. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION This problem first manifested itself in our Windows 2000 / IIS 5.0 environment. When an IE 6.0 user clicks on a link to display an ASP web page on an IIS server they _immediately_ get a "Server not found or DNS error" response in the browser. However, if they F5 (refresh) 3,4,5,6, or more times the ASP generated page eventually displays. RESEARCH TO DATE We traced the problem to some kind of a network timing issue with Windows Integrated Authentication enabled in IIS for the particular site. However when we enabled the NetMon packet driver to collect TCP/IP packets in trying to zero in on the exact problem, the problem became much much harder to reproduce. (The app worked as expected.) As soon as we disabled the NetMon driver, the problem returned. This behavior supports our theory that the problem was a network timing issue in the TCP/IP subsystem. Before we found the root of the problem, SP4 came out for Windows 2000 Server and the problem went away. I cannot find anything in the list of documented fixes that points to the problem we were experiencing. However, now we are experiencing the exact same senario on our Windows 2003 IIS 6.0 Servers. One running SharePoint. One running a third party app. Both requiring Windows Integrated Authentication. No recored errors or warnings are recorded in the event logs. I have verified in the IIS Logs that the server received the page request even when the browser displays "Server not found". So we know the request is getting to the IIS server. ENVIRONMENT The servers are connected 100 Mbit Full-Duplex Switched Ethernet to a 1 GB backplane. The only thing I can figure from looking at the NetMon packets collected is that IIS is sending a request to the ActiveDirectory server to verify authentication and the AD server is responding faster than the TCP/IP sub-system is able to accept the result and pass it back up to IIS as valid. 2 AD Servers are Win 2000 w/ SP4 Windows 2000 / IIS 5.0 Servers running SP4 work fine Windows 2000 / IIS 5.0 Servers running SP3 reproduce the error Windows 2003 / IIS 6.0 Servers reproduce the error All systems are on the same 10.x.x.x subnet. REQUEST I've searched msdn, technet, and usenet for hours looking for a similar documented experience or a fix. Nothing.     - Move SSL Certificate to a New Server. I would like to move my Verisign SSL certificate from my existing IIS 4.0 server to a new IIS 4.0 server and have a few questions..... 1. Do I just export the certificate from the existing IIS server and import it on the new IIS server? 2. Do the NetBIOS names of the IIS servers need to be identical for the certificate to work properly on the new IIS server?     - First ASP after IIS restart is very slow When running IIS 5.1 on some XP Pro machines (but not all), the first ASP page run after an IIS restart will take about 2 minutes to start up. Subsequent calls to asp pages run quickly, it's only a problem on the first asp page after an IIS restart. This is a problem because I'm a developer who sometimes restarts IIS 40 or 50 times per day. Windows 2000 Server and Server 2003 machines do not seem to have the problem and most of our XP machines do not have the problem. We have 3 that do have the issue. This only occurs on asp pages. HTML or HTM files startup immediately. Interestingly, when I move to the first aspx page after a IIS restart, that too takes 2 minutes the very first time even after I just spent 2 minutes waiting for the first asp. This occurs on the IISHelp web and on a virtual web that I've created that only has a single test.asp that looks like: <html> Test asp page </html> I have tried: - Uninstalling IIS 5.1, rebooting and re-installing IIS 5.1 - Added and removed all Service Packs and Critical Updates - Stopped Symantec AntiVirus via their GUI and directly stopping the Service. Finally just uninstalled Symantec AntiVirus. - Stopped the SQL Server 2000 Service - Rebuilt the entire machine from scratch - Tried using authentication other than Anonymous.     - aspx file not running on my localhost server I have visualStudio.NET loaded on my laptop, I am running XP Pro on the laptop. I can not get my server to recognize aspx files. It will read an aspx file but none of the elements appear on the page. It is like the browser is throwing up a plain text file. I was looking around on my computer and found that I have an asp dll file but I don't have an aspx dll. Should I have one? Is that the problem, if so where would I get the file?     - Authentication Issue - STS, IIS6, TS Very interesting problem and I know it has to be an authentication issue -- Take three computers, one is 2003 web running sharepoint team services, one is 2003 std running terminal services and the 3rd is a 2000 pro all are fully updated. If logged into the 2000 box, I can connect cleanly to the sharepoint site, no problem. If I'm logged in, as myself on the TS box, it requests my user/pass again upon connection to the site. According to one of the posts I found here, I am having delegation issue due to needing two hops. -quote- You're running into what's known as a delegation issue. In Windows Integrated authentication, the password is not actually sent to IIS. It works when you're logged on locally to the IIS server because in this case, IIS is on the machine that checked your password and there's only one"hop" involved to the network location. When you're logged onto another machine, IIS never gets the password and thus can't pass it to the network location (two hops). Try switching to Basic authentication which does send the password over the network. -quote- However, I have tried using basic authentication and annoymous, still same result.     - Allowing access on ASP.NET page Hi all, I've got a Visual Studio project that I was working with yesterday afternoon. When I attempt to open it this morning, I get an error indicating that access to the project is forbidden. The project is in a folder that is also set as a virtual directory. I'm running IIS 5.0 (Win2KPro). I'm sure I stupidly made some setting change that now denies access but have gone through IIS and the physical folders and can't see anything that looks like it would restrict the access.     - Server restarts unexpectedly Hi there, I'm getting a problem that my Windows 2000 server (SP4) regularly restarts itself when faced with a request for a web page that takes more than a few seconds to execute. I'm running IIS 5 with the .NET framework 1.1, accepting requests for ASP and ASP.NET pages. So far the server has restarted when triggered by requests for ASP. In the event log I get a "Server Restarted Unexpectedly" Error, Event ID 6008 but no other errors. I have around 500Mb disk space left on the Server which has been fine up til now.     - Point to third party hosting service How do I effectively point client systems to a third party hosted website with the same domain name? i.e. xyz.com is the domain on our Windows 2000 server with AD and DNS. A third party "abc company" hosts www.xyz.com. The www host record in dns is set to the primary dns for pacbell (206.13.28.12). Sometimes the clients find the website and sometimes they don't.     - iis restarting hi, I keep getting several error messages when restarting the wold wide web service and then after a couple of minutes it hangs. the machine is win 2000 with all latest updates and sp3. the errors in the event log are 7031 for all sevices dependant on iis admin and nntp 101 and also IISCTL 1 & 2. The error for the nntp says it can't find the "/" for virtual directory newsgroups but can find no record of this. have also scanned machine twice for viruses with two different virus programs but found nothing. any ideas???     - Can This be Done? I want to develop a desktop application consisting of ASP.NET pages using a local copy of SQL (MSDE 2000). I know that I can setup an install package using InstallShield that will copy the necessary files and Install an instance of MSDE and make sure the .NET Framework is installed but I am not sure about the Web Server piece of this. I would like to wrap this functionality in C# so I don't have to compile a binary and ship with my installer. I need to generate a type library so VS.NET can create a primary interop assembly. So the process as I understand is to: 1) get the iadmw.idl file 2) run the midl compiler to generate the type library 3) import the type library using .net tblimp.exe tool to generate interop assembly. The problem is I cannot locate the iadmw.idl file anywhere. I have the most recent Platform SDK installed with all the options and I have iadmw.h which contains the interfaces but no .idl file. I tried using the midl tool with the iadmw.h file but no luck. Can some please give me a push to how I can use the IMSAdminBase interface in C#?     - IIS blocked by Direcway Earthlink Satellite service: Does anyone know how to make XP Pro IIS compatable with Direcway Earthlink Satellite? From the browser http://localhost will bring up IIS when the Earthlink software is completely uninstalled. The only software on the computer for testing purposes is XP Pro with IIS installed and the Earthlink satellite software. I've done a by-the-book install of the component and the web admin etc is working on my internal network. I have the web site running but the buttons\tabs on the page that reference the javascript:Open Popup function does not work.     - Sharepoint -- "Service Unavaliable" Hello. Having what I assume to be a permissions problem with sharepoint and IIS. I used one of the knowledge base article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;823552 and a very similar one under technet - followed it to the letter and still having the same issue. What DOES seem to work is switching the appl pool to use the local system account but due to security reasons I'd rather not use that service. I was using the network service up until a few days ago but for whatever reason, stopped working.     - The page cannot be displayed... I partitioned my hard drive. It wasn't a real partition, as in adding a separate OS. I contracted some sort of [computer] virus, and it wouldn't start. So I created another instance of Windows XP.which added a 'Windows2' folder on my C drive. I ended up having to reinstall all of my software from the old partition (which I was able to see in the original 'Windows' folder). Nevertheless, since this fiasco, I've not been able to view 'http://localhost' or 'http://127.0.0.1' files. I was able to run Apache files, however. (Yes, I did stop the Apache Server from running). I have IIS running on Win2000 server, somehow the startup type of WWW Publishing service is always "disabled" -- If I change it to "manual" or "automatic", the next time when server reboots, it's changed back to "disabled". As a result, the service never starts up automatically after server reboot. I also tried changing the startup type in registry, but it didn't work either. Both WWW Publishing and SMTP are dependent on IIS Admin service. However, SMTP and IIS Admin can be set to "automatic" and they start up fine after server reboot. I don't think this can be done. Also, how is storing
usernames and passwords in a local plain text file more
secure than the built-in MS technologies?

I would be more afraid of someone getting a copy of your
plain text file with all the usernames and passwords in
plain site...
