    - re: cgi script causes 404 2 1260 to be written to IIS logfile Hey~ The first thing to try as only a "Test" step is to enable "Allow all Unknown CGI's" to ensure that you effectively have CGI setup. This should be disabled immediately afterwards. The syntax you are using seems accurate for ActiveState Perl. The first question I have, honestly, is do you have to use CGI? CGI is very much outperformed on IIS by ISAPI. If you are using Perl, we typically recommend you use the PERL ISAPI extension for much more performance "out of the box."     - FTP script and synchronize question??? Does anyone know of a microsoft command-line tool, either native to W2K or W2K03 or apart of a resource kit which will enable scripting an FTP command and synchronizing files between a local and remote location?? I would need it to: 1. build FTP session. 2. do a file update similar to what can be done with robocopy.exe 3. tear down session.     - Keep getting "Page Cannot be Found 404" errors Hello everyone, I am creating an intranet. I have a site called Company Intranet that I created in IIS. I pointed the home directory to the folder D:\Intranet. I placed a file called test.html in that directory. However when I try to access http://servername/test.html, I get the 404 error. I also tried moving the home directory back to the default of c:\inetpub\wwwroot. I still get a 404 error. The site name test.html is listed when I go into IIS. I am on Windows 2003 server. I also have Windows Sharepoint Services installed. I can access the default.aspx and other pages for it just fine. I don't even know where to start looking for. Does anyone have any ideas? The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being displayed .... and gives information as to how to enable detail message by changing the customErrors mode in Web.config file to Off. In our Web Application, we have set the customErrors mode to "On" and have a defaultRedirect to a Custom Error Page. Inspite of this, we keep getting the above mentioned page intermittently whenever the web application is accessed from a new session. Sometime we have to restart IIS in order to get rid of this problem. I have also tried setting the customErrors mode to "Off" in order to get a details message.     - IIS/firewall problem Hi, I have set up a web site which runs off one of our internal web servers. Everything works fine when I try to access the site from within our network but unfortunately it doesn't work at all when I try to access it over the internet - I get "Cannot find server" error page. I have configured NAT so that one of our external IP addresses points to the internal IP address of the server - I know this is working because I have accessed other services on that server externally. I have also purchased a domain name and have configured its A record to point to the server's external IP address. I have configured the host header name in IIS to the domain name. I have also opened port 80 on our firewall so that it is open for the source as the internal LAN web server IP and the destination as "*". I'm almost totally sure it's a firewall issue because: 1) It works fine internally within our network 2) It still doesn't work when I add the domain name and external IP to my Hosts file (therefore it won't be a domain issue) Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem could be?     - redir.asp IIS change password issue We have a hosted E2K3 SP1 environment with OWA and O2K3 RPC/HTTPS clients and as such we develped a simple application to notify users via email about their password expiration a number of days before the actual expiration. It happens that in our test, when the application sends out the email notification message to the users with the link https://server.domain.com/iisadmpwd/aexp2b.asp), O2K3 users can get to the page fine, but OWA users get an HTTP 403 error when OWA tries to redirect the browser to https://server.domain.com/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=https://server.domain.com/iisadmpwd/aexp2b.asp using redir.asp.     - Event ID 1009 - Application pool terminating. There is a similar question posted today, but the event ID is different I see the following error anywhere from 2-3 times a day on Windows 2003 server. Event ID- 1009, a process serving application pool 'Q' terminated unexpectedly. The process ID was 'xxxx' . The process code was 'xxx' So far we have not noticed anything on the application side, but once in a while W3WP.EXE starts using up all the CPU and the server comes to a halt. This is not associated with the application pool terminating, but wondering if it is conntributing it. I have applied SP1 for Windows 2003, that did not make any difference. Any help is apprciated.     - "The page cannot be displayed"/Can not find server or DNS error Greetings. My pc runs Windows 2003 Server and IIS 6.0. I've had problems getting a cgi script to run and finally ended up testing with a perl script that prints the environment. (I've searched this forum as best I could but couldn't find anything exactly like the configuration my pc runs with the problem I'm seeing. Sorry if you've seen this one before.) The script runs at the command prompt when I fully specify the path to perl and the script name. When I try to run it from IE I get "The page cannot be displayed" displayed at the top of the page and "Can not find server or DNS error" displayed at the bottom.     - Apply to Online Certification Authority Hi I want to ass SSL authentication to one of our Web Sites. The site is hosted on a server in our DMZ but will be made available to our customers. I have installed Microsoft Certificate services on this server but when I try to set up SSL I am only given the Option to prepare the request to send to a Certification Authority. The option to apply to an Online authentication authority immediately is greyed out. I have another site on the same server which has a Veri Sign SSL certificate. (That would not cause a problem, would it?) This is a Windows 2000 Server SP4 with IIS5 It is possible that I have not installed the Certification Services properly but it did look as if it installed OK. Any help appreciated. Thank you.     - Where is the default Mime Map configured on IIS 5.1 Hi, I can't seem to find the list of default Mime types under IIS 5.1 on XP Pro. I've right clicked the 'Web Sites' item in the IIS Manager and chosen Properties. HttpHeaders/File Types shows an empty list, implying that the default Mime map is held at a higher level, but I can't find any way to display it. Anyone know how to do this please.     - IIS 6.0 hangs on Windows 2003 SP1 while connecting to Access datab I have a web based application which retrieves data from a MS Access database. On a Windows 2003 SP1 system, under light traffic conditions, IIS stops reaponding. I previously experienced a similar problem on Windows 2003, but the MSJet patch appeared to resolve it.     - App Pool crash - 8007006d Our production server has recently started experiencing AppPool crashes. These seem to occur sporadically. sometimes three times a day, sometimes not for a couple of days. The error manifests itself to the client as "Service Unavailable". In the system event log we see the following: A process serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' suffered a fatal communication error with the World Wide Web Publishing Service With error number: 8007006d At the same time (but not always) we see this error in the Application Log "Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.0, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.0, fault address 0x000249d3" The application does usually start working again after anywhere between 2 and 15 minutes (although no worker process restarts or recycles appear in our perf logs). This problems seems to have started occuring following the latest MS patches being applied to our server. It may just be a coincidence though. We are running Windows Server 2003 Standard. We are about to apply SP1 in an attempt to solve this problem, but I wanted to find out if anyone else has had this problem and what the solution was. I have seen several similarish posts but nothing concrete as a solution. I have seen this article (http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?id=885654) but it doesn't quite match our situation as we are not running as a domain controller. We haven't yet tried running registry monitor as I wanted to find out if error 8007006d always equates to a registry permission problem?? before installing 3rd party freeware onto our production server.     - Win2k / IIS 5 Frontpage extensions not working We have an Windows 2000 / IIS 5 server witch we use for our hosting customers. We now have a problem with Frontpage extensions and publishing a site with the Frontpage program. If the user (every user, even a brand new test user) want's to publish his site and chooses for 'Frontpage or Sharepoint services' he gets the error that there are problems with getting to the site files of the Windows Sharepoint Services. I checked the permissions and everything is looking fine and I think that a recent security patch is in the way of things. But can anyone give me a resume of the right permissions needed for a stable working? I checked with my Win2003 server and the permissions on that server are the same as on the Win2k server?     - IIS screen capture returns black screen Hi, I'm running a program on my IIS server that's written in C# that is supposed to make screen captures of the server's display. The problem is that the images that get created are all black although they are always the right size. I have tried everything from spawning an exe that takes the screenshots to using window handles to take the screenshots and all I get are black pictures. Now I know that the code to take the screenshot is correct because when I manually run the exe on the server images are displayed correctly but the same exe displays a black image when run from IIS. Also all of this code works fine when run on the Microsoft ASP.NET Development Server which means this problem has something to do with some limitations in IIS. I'm not that experienced with IIS so if any experts out there know any special configurations I have to run IIS under or if anyone knows any workarounds for this problem please let me know. Thanks!     - Server keep sending e-mail There's a part in my program code that iterate an array list, and then send an e-mail for each item in the list. I think I made a mistake in the codes previously or what, it just keep sending e-mail non-stop. So I stopped running the program, expecting things will be normal again. But I discovered that the server still keep sending out e-mail when I have already stop the program. This has already persisted for 4 days, and today morning, I saw 6000 emails in my mailbox.     - One GET, Multiple POSTS I have started seeing this over the past few months for a small number of users: A user will make a request to a page that has a form, I see a single GET in the IIS logs. The user POSTS the form, I see multiple POSTS requests in the log, anything from 3 to 10, about a second apart. The user doesn't see any problems, ie the first post comes back OK, but the extra ones cause problems in our system, mainly they arent sending back a cookie, and are causing errors to be logged.     - win2k iis5.0 web servers randomly crashing I have 4 web servers that just started randomly crashing pretty much on a daily basis. Restarting IIS fixes it for a little while but ultimately i have to reboot the server. The only thing that i recently did was install the POST sp4 rollup. Are there any IIS issues with that update or any other new patches? There are no errors getting generated in my event logs or IIS logs. I have also ran Perfmon on the servers to see if anything weird is happening on the server when it crashes. I also have other 2k webservers in my server farm that do not seem to be affected.     - IIS 6 I have a customer that I am trying to assist with IIS 6 (Server 2003). This may be a really basic question to ask here. She is trying to post an audio/videofile to her website, to be able to play. However when she posted the file to her IIS server, and linked it on her website, she gets a 404 error. I had sent her an email to check her file permissions, as well as the urlscan.ini file to make sure that she allows that file extension. But she responded that IIS 6 no longer uses the urlscan.ini (news to me - I don't know anything about IIS 6 - only 4 and 5). She did say that she can download the new urlscan to use with it though. She did mention that inetmgr.exe offers a webserviuce extensions feature, but doesn't know the syntax to use it. Any suggestions appreciated in advance.     - IUSER Question Hello, I don't know if this is the proper place to post this but I need to know about this. Recently, I have started to get a whole bunch of 529 (bad logon) errors in my event log associated with the IUSER account. I posted this on the SBS NG and the answer I recieved was to reset the IUSER account password. I did in AD and in IIS at the Default Site. This did not work and infact made everything worse. My OWA gave me a 440 logon error which I corrected by changing the IWAM password to the same one as my IUSER and then ran some scripts according to a website I found of a google search for the 440 error. That solved the OWA problem but now my IUSER account keeps generating 539 events (lockouts). My question is, are there any services that rely on the IUSER account?     - iis 5.1 and windows XP pro sp2 I am doing some web development and would like to set up a local website to do some testing. Although I have installed iis 5.1 on my Windows XP pro sp2 machine, I cannot view .asp pages. Over the past 3 weeks, I have found literally hundreds of others on various iis help websites with the same problem. I have read a number of help articles, and tried a number of solutions, but with no success. Here are my symptoms. 1. ASP pages display the source code, but .html files with simple text work fine 2. When I go to browse the default website I get the following error; Server Application Error The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance. 3. When I check the event viewer, I see the following; The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT'. The error was 'Class not registered '. Among the solutions I have tried are 1. turning off any antivirus software 2. turning off the firewall 3. uninstalling and reinstalling IIS 5.1 4. uninstalling and reinstalling MSTC 5. updating registry settings 6. worked with our network guy to see of there is something in our networking that is preventing the web stuff from working I would really appreciate any help with this.     - Unattended IIS Installation I am in the process of writing a configuration script for a windows 2003 server. Part of this script installs and configures an ftp server in IIS. On the most part the script works fine, but Iâ??m a little stuck on a detail. Essentially I need to get the script to tell windows that the I386 folder (required for the install) is available the local machine i.e. C:\I386\ and I donâ??t want the installation to ask for the windows CD, I was hoping that I would be able to use: [Unattended] InstallFilesPath=â??C:\i386\â??     - w3wp.exe crashes running Crystal Report This issue is similar to a few other posts I've seen. It has to do with Windows Server 2003 running an ASP.Net application and the w3wp.exe process crashes. In particular, we have a Crystal Report (Ver. 9) that can be run with date ranges. We generate the crystal report fine and stream the output to a pdf file and use Acrobat 7.0 to view the results. Once we exceed a certain threshold, approximately 650+ records returned, about a 30-35 day date range, the crash occurs. Error in Event Log: The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( .NET Runtime ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details.     - 400 bad request My admin setup a website 'EDV' on a new server and it pointed to the default website. Worked just fine. We decided to create a new website and change the name 'EDV' to point to the new website. The new website has its own IP address. Default website has 'all unassigned ip' set to it. I stopped the default website as well. Now SOMETIMES I get '400 bad request' from the 'EDV' site. I have setup more sites with more IP addresses and they work fine.     - IIS 6, XP x64, Framework v2.0 Ciao, I'm trying to run the 32-bit version of ASP.NET 2.0 in a 64-bit environment. I "cscript adsutil.vbs SET W3SVC\...\Enable32bitAppOnWin64" IIS to allow the 32-bit env. I register asp: "/v2.0.40607/aspnet_regiis.exe -i -wow64". This works fine. I can browse my dynamic pages etc... When I go to work on a new or existing project I can run it without debugging. If I try to debug I get errors. This file can not be registered. Now here is where I am stuck. I need (of course) to be able to debug but, I can't get the debugger working.     - WPAD I am having trouble getting WPAD hosted on a Windows 2003 web server to work. If I tick the box in IE that says "Use automatic configuration script" and fill in the url with http://wpad.my.domain/wpadt.dat then everything works fine.     - Running IIS and Apache on the same server I am trying to run both IIS 5.0 and Apache on the same server. The server has 2 IP addresses, and my idea is that IIS should use one, and Apache should use the other. (Well, in fact the other server is not actually Apache but a custom one, but that is irrelevant here, so let's just assume it's Apache) The server runs Windows 2000 Server SP4 In the IIS console I can specify the IP address. Default is (All Unassigned), but I can change this to one of the two addresses. Sounds fine, so I do that for all the virtual servers on the IIS. I then specify the other address on the 'Apache'. I have double-checked both, and there is no apparent address-overlap. Now, this happens: If I start IIS first, then it apparently grabs port 80 on BOTH the addresses, so the 'Apache' cannot establish its server socket on port 80 on its 'own' IP address. If I start Apache first, then IIS says 'Address already in use' when I try to start it. Also, I have tried to put 2 Ethernet cards in the server, giving each one a unique address. Same result. I'm running XPpro w/sp2, on the workstation I have running IIS5, FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions, FrontPage 2003, SQLServer2k w/sp4, MDAC 2.8 sp1, Delphi 2005, Visual Studio. The subject services start up fine however, when I try to access the web-site I get an error displayed in explorer and two entries in the system event log which contain... learning how it works. I would also like to be able to set up my own mail
server. I would like to know what you guys/gals recommend. It must be
freeware or cheap shareware.

I have seen a few e-mail server packages available on the net which don't
appear to do what I want. The packages I have seen all appear to rely on an
ISP mail server. I would like to run the mail server at my end. I have now
learned how to set up MX records, but at this time have yet find software to
suit me.

Please, if you have any pointers for me, I would be very grateful to you.
