I have a group who need to post documents for access
inside a firewall. These documents are pdf format they
are huge. There are at least 50,000 documents which are
appoximately 50GB plus in size. I was told that we could
set up a computer running windows 2000 and configure IIS
for read, place a DNS entry for this computer in our DNS
server and then place a link on our intranet site which
will then go to the Windows 2000 computer.

I am not sure how this could be accomplished so if anyone
has any ideas or know of some where else I could look it
would be greatly appreciated.

You can try CRS (content replication service ) shipped along with site server 3.0 / commerce server 2KX to push all the files from source(any windows 2000 server which hosts CRS service) to a particular destination (any windows 2000 server). It works with firewall as you can open a particular or default port for content to be replicated. You can also customize a web page for authenticating who can trigger the CRS jobs. Also there are many content software suite out in the market which might also will be useful . (ex . Stellent Content server)
