Using 2003 server with IIS 6 with FrontPage extensions

I added a new web in IIS for a friend on my own server and I'd rather him
not be admin in my domain. I've given him write access to his folder and
write access to the folder in IIS but it will only accept an admin password
to edit pages in his web.

What more do I have to do?

Thanks!

As soon as I posted this I remembered: You have to open the page in FP and
then choose Server | Permissions.

Got it working.

Why these permissiongs cannnot be set without FrontPage is maddening. (I'm
sure it can be done but I have no idea how)

Hi,

What version of FPSE are you using on the server? If you are using FPSE
2000, then it creates three Windows groups by default (Admins, Authors and
Browsers). You put users into those groups.

If you are using FPSE 2002, then there is a Sharepoint Administration
website link in your Admin Tools folder on your web server. Use that tool to
configure permissions for users for each FPSE extended website.

Cheers
Ken

Manage Users

Thank you,
-Bob

Hi Ken,

We are using FPSE 2002. I think.

Which options do I use to control the permissions? It seems many of the
options are grayed out. I noticed all of my FP webs say "upgrade" when I
look choose the first option, "Extend or upgrade virtual server"

Thank you.

Open the main Sharepoint Admin link as mentioned earlier.

You should have a list of sites on the homepage. Click the "Administration"
link for the site in question if you have extended the site with FPSE2002
extensions.

On the next page, towards the top, there should be a link that says "Go to
Site Administration for site <sitename here>". Click that link

There are now links for managing "Roles" and "Users". There's already a set
of predefined roles you can put users into (e.g. Administrator, Advanced
Author, Author, etc), or you can create your own roles with their own custom
set of permissions.

Cheers
Ken

Hi Ken,

I should have mentioned on my SBS 2003. I wonder if the screens are
different in this area?

When I open SharePoint Central Administration I get a bunch of choices under
subject headings "Virtual Server Configuration", "Security Configuration",
"Server Configuration", and "Component Configuration".

Can you help me?

As soon as I sent this I thought to look for a different shortcut. I found
it.

However when I try the link "Go to Site Administration" it prompts me for a
password and none of the accounts I have work, my administrator account of
my own account (which is also administrator on the domain).

Thanks again.

Hi,

SBS2003 has Windows Sharepoint Services (WSS), which is a little bit
different to FPSE2002, but most of it is the same.

In terms of your account problems - I can't help you with that as I don't
have an SBS 2003 box in front of me. On FPSE2002, when a site is extended
you need to choose an account that will be the administrator of that site.
It can be the built-in Administrator account, or any other account. You need
to use that account to manage the site (at least initially - until you add
more admin accounts).

I would try using the Domain\Administrator (not just "Administrator") and
see if that works.

Cheers
Ken
