    - Error with .aspx extensions on Vista Hello.     - Logparser to parse IIS logs and output to (multiple) new files I just started reading about logparser and I would like to use it to rid IIS logs of entries containing bot names listed in a text file. I'll be using autoit and Logparser COM. I was wondering what the best way to go about this would be. From what I have read in the logparser documentation, it seems that the following would not be possible: 1. Logparser query cannot be setup such that: it is passed a file (say a list of bot names) and told to filter the inputfiles of all lines containing any of the terms in said file. 2. Logparser cannot produce output upon running a query on a set of multiple files such that the output is organized into files that correspond to the original files. (So if files A, B, C are to be filtered, the output cannot automatically be placed in files A1, B1, C1 such that the contents of A1 = filtered contents of A, and similarly for B1 and C1). Given the above assumptions, I have concluded that If I want to filter a large set of files and if the filtering involves a large set of filter terms, the best way to utilize logparser would be to run a query multiple times in nested loops (inner loop traverses the list of bots, and outer loop traverses the list of files. [In effect: For each file A, [for each filter term 'bot' run a query that retreives all lines NOT containing "bot", placing the output in A1. Repeat query on file A for all bots names] Repeat for all files]. I'd like to confirm whether or not my assumptions 1 and 2 above are mistaken, and if my suggested way of completing this task is over complicating things.     - IIS 6.0 ASP.NET 2.0 apps migrated to IIS 7 == "This web site is using .NET 1.1" I've migrated my development workstation from 32-bit Windows Server 2003 to Windows Vista Ultimate x64. I added my .NET web applications under development to IIS. I configured the apps to use a custom App Pool based on the Classic AppPool which is based on .NET 2.0. Now every time I open them in Visual Studio 2005, I get this message: ------------------------------------- The site 'http://localhost/[MyWeb]' is currently configured for use with ASP.NET 1.1.4322.2032. Microsoft Visual Studio has been designed for use with ASP.NET 2.0; if not configured some features may make incorrect assumptions, and pages designed with the tool may not render correctly. Would you like the site to be configured for use with ASP.NET 2.0? ------------------------------------- I don't know why it says this since the web site is not an ASP.NET 1.1 app. Regardless, if if I choose 'Yes', the messages come back again whenever I start up Visual Studio.     - DNS Error/Proxy Error I'm having a little problem with my internet. I've been away for nine months and I went to use the internet, but whenever I try I get an error saying that there is a DNS error, or the proxy settings are wrong, thus making Internet explorer and Firefox to not work. I am connected to the network, and MSN Messenger signs itself in, yet iTunes Store cannot connect. What could have caused this, and how can I fix it? Great Thanks Michael.     - Web App Performance Hi, This seems like the right group for this question... We have an intranet based ASP web app. It is only used internally and the number of concurrent users is low(incidently how can I find out number of concurrent user?). Currently there is no performance monitoring at all. I know from SQL Profiler that some queries take 100ms, which is bad but not terrible given the low numbers of users. I know that the same web page can take between pretty instant to 5 seconds to return. I also know that on some pages with lots of data, the XSL Transform can take ages. However we think that most of the time is network latency. How can I monitor the following? Network latency. Time taken for page to load asp. Time taken for data islands and xmlhttp object to load data. Time for XSL transforms. Is there some way to monitor all this with Perf Mon? If so what counters do I need to look at and on which machine (client, web server, db server)? Any pointers to articles would be great as well... Am I even asking the right questions?     - IIS 6.0, memory limit ? Hi, I'm running IIS 6.0 with Win2003. 4GB of memory are installed on the machine. I've configured all the web sites to use the default applicaiton pool. each web sites occupies ~20MB. When the w3wp.exe process occupies 512MB of Heap bytes (checked with process explorer) I get OutOfMemory Exceptions from the web sites.     - IIS COM ASP.NET Hello, I have a web page that is developed in ASP.NET that accesses COM components. It was first developed on an XP Pro machine with IIS 5.1. There are never any problems running the web page on this machine. I then transferred the web page to the Windows 2003 server that has IIS 6.0. I can run the web page once and it runs fine. If I start a new instance of the web page, it gives me an error concerning one of the functions I have to use. The error is "System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800A000D): Type mismatch". I have noticed also that it appears to be session related because if I use the same session id as the one that orignally worked in the url that it will work fine. Any ideas? Thanks.     - IIS Crashes - App Pool exceeded Time Limits during Shut down.. Have 20 sites running off 5 Mid-tiers ( four each). Each site allows users to look up files in Oracle that are stored on Network SANS. The sites crash randomly at different times and after manually recycling a site's app pool ( allowing the site to be accessed again) we find the following entry in the Event viewer App log A process serving application pool 'Philly' exceeded time limits during shut down. The process id was '3368'. This happens randomly across all sites. Servers are IIS6, W2k3 without SP1 or SP2 ( Other apps on servers won't support it) but most other indivdiual hot fixes are installed. On one site I attached IISSTATE to the w3wp.exe process and created the log file shown below. Since using IISSTATE we are finding that the sites are crashing a lot more often then previously thought. IISSTATE records these additional crashes by generating a dump file and we've found that a new worker process starts up for the site but the site does not become inaccessible and we don't see the entry in the App log previously mentioned. The log below is for a crash where the site became inaccessible and required a manual recycling of the app pool.     - How to move a website from the default website Hi experts, I have WSS installed which has disabled my default website and stolen port 80 for it's own selfish purposes. Now, I recently have installed the web version of the terminal services server which installed it right off of the "stopped" default website. I am working on a website where the initial ASP (classic) page request is very high (50,000 per hour) - and is dynamically generated on every request - as there is the usuall stuff in there Server,CreateObject, etc it is creating a big overhead on the server - but i've seen quite a few sites now where the initial page is HTML, and has obviously been generated as a "blanket" page...     - Impersonation not working... Hi all, Hopefully someone will be able to help with this issue. I have an ASP.Net application that is trying to extract frames from .avi and .wmv files to create thumbnails. The media files are out on a server and the .avi files work when I set the filename property of the MediaDet object but when I try to do that with the .wmv file I get an error thrown at me. The files all sit in the same directory and are processed in the same loop of code. I'm using impersonation and the Windows Identity shows that the impersonated user is being used before the code tries to set the filename property. I decided to Audit the directory on the server and also check the windows Identity before the setting of the filename property on the MediaDet object.     - Viewing images on different server For some reason, I cannot see images from my internet web site. I have the images in a virtual directory and located on a different server on our domain in a shared folder. When I view them from my workstation in the office, they show up fine.     - IIS custom errors stop working after adding web.config We have an IIS 6.0 server running mostly classic ASP applications and use custom errors configured in IIS manager. However, recently we added a few ASP.NET applications to the server and use a web.config file at the root of the site for all of the .NET inherit their connections strings. After adding these .NET applications, the custom error pages for classic ASP apps no longer work. I know that you can configure a web.config with tags for custom errors but does that, by default, override the custom errors configured in IIS. We have a website maintained by My@VO within IIS. If I type the name of the website at internet explorer all things are correct.     - Multiple interfaces for redundancy I want to set up IIS 5 on a T1 and DSL line for redundancy. I have done the following configuration which seems to work. The IIS 5 (Windows 2000) server has 2 network interfaces. One interface is plugged into a switch which goes into the router which is on the T1 side, the other interface is plugged into a switch which goes into the DSL side. Each interface is assigned 2 IP addresses. The T1 connected interface has 10.0.0.101 and 10.0.0.102 as it uses NAT. These IPs are NAT'd by the router to our public IP addresses. The DSL side interface is directly assigned 2 public IP addresses (ie. 1.2.3.4 and 1.2.3.5). In IIS configuration, we have 2 websites, the first is bound to 10.0.0.101 and 1.2.3.4 and assigned the host header name of websiteone.ourdomain.com. The second website is bound to 10.0.0.102 and 1.2.3.5 assigned the host header name of websitetwo.ourdomain.com. Both of these websites also run SSL so that is set up as well, this is the reason why I do not have them on the same IP. DNS is configured round-robin, to sometimes give one IP and sometimes give the other IP for each of the websites. All of this seems to work, but I am wondering if there is a better way to set it up. We have recently purchased a new web server which runs Windows 2003 with IIS 6, and I would like to set it up so that it is also load balancing/redundant. We have some users that are browsing our site from behind what appears to be a proxy server and when they visit the index page of the site (which has over 100 inside links) the proxy server attemps to open a connection to each and every link at the same time (from the same IP address) Is there a way in IIS that anyone knows of to limit how many simultaneous connections can be allowed per IP address We already set the connection timeout to 15 seconds and max 150 connections in the website properties.     - digest authentication on virtual (networked) directories I'm using digest authentication for access to our intranet and it's working perfectly when the directories are local to the webserver. If I add a virtual directory that points to a directory on another machine (\\server\share\directory etc.), digest authentication no longer works... ...unless I add NETWORK to the directory's ACL list... but when I do that any user with a valid AD account can log on to the directory and the share level ACLs no longer have any effect... If I don't have NETWORK in the ACL list, I get a prompt for authentication 3 times, then a "you are not authorized... etc." error message. Looking through the Security Event log on the web server give me three entries saying the my logon request was successfull, but it seems to be falling over between webserver and network share.     - Can't redirect 400 Bad Request in IIS6 Hi - I'm having a problem with IIS 6 on Windows 2003 Server. Here's the basics There's an application that has an URL http://domain/oneparticulardirectory/# embedded in it. The user uses the application, it requests the URL and gets a 400 Bad Request response from IIS. Make sense as requesting # isn't allowed. Problem is I can't change the URL in the application so I need to rewrite the GET request on the fly to something sensible like http://domain/oneparticulardirectory/ or http://domain/oneparticulardirectory/somefile.html This is what I've done so far - Tried using Custom Errors in the IIS Admin mmc snapon but found that IIS deals with 400's at a kernel level so that can't be used (what's the point of having custom error pages to deal with 400 Bad Requests in the IIS control panel if the errors never get that far up the stack to be dealt with by them?) - Tried using ISAPI filters (IISRewrite and Ionic's Isapi Rewrite Filter) to rewrite the URLS. Both do the exact job I want them to do with IIS 5 and both rewrite a variety of other types of requests perfectly with IIS 6, but neither will rewrite 400 Bad Requests on IIS 6. I read somewhere that IIS 6 doesn't allow manipulation of "Raw Read Data" via ISAPI filters anymore - Tried running IIS 6 in IIS 5 protected mode to see if it will behave like IIS 5 and allow the ISAPI filters to rewrite the 400's but it does the same thing as it does in normal IIS 6 mode I'm stumped. Note that I know the real solution is to change the application to stop making the bad request, this can be done but it's going to a take a long time - I need something to rewrite the bad requests in the meantime.     - Hosting a web site while using a different DNS mangt co Hi guys, I have a friend that has a web site being developed by a web hosting company and they are telling him that because they are hosting his web site they also have to manage his DNS records. His domain is registered with NetSol so he is using their DNS servers. He has the www.... enrty pointing to the IP that the web hosting company gave him for his web server. It resolves to the home page, and other links on the site, but sometimes the links will go back to NetSol as that is the default failover. Error: 'Impossible to find specified metadata') -I can see metadata using 'cscript adsutil.vbs ENUM', and they are not quite different in confront of a working server -I've set ASPNET, and Machine\ASPNET, permissions to Administrators, from user console and using 'aspnet_regiis -ga' -I've used 'aspnet_regiis -i' from the FW2.0 path -I've deinstalled FW1.1 using 'aspnet_regiis -u' from 1.1 path -IIS ASP.NETmode is set to 2.0.50727 for default sites and all sub- sites -I've re-installed O.S.(formatting HD), then FW2.0, then IIS5.1, then VS2005, at least 3 times -checking ASP.NET version consistently (running aspnet_regiis -lk and from IIS management consolle, ASP.NET tab) returns 2.0.50272 for root and the only two, very very simple, apps now installed. -IIS Execution permissions are set to Script AND Executables; read/ write only "Read", and even setting all check-boxes changes nothing. -IIS Authentication methods are "Anonymous" AND Windows Integrated. Simple, or complex, only-Html pages are served correctly, even if created by VS2005. Even the simplest aspx page renders as Http500. -I've read tons of NG, followed advices and tricks -Same config on Xp Pro SP2 runs flawlessly, with same apps. -I've spent some hours trying to run IIS 7 (with IIS 6.0 compatibility) on Vista Ultimate (Centrino duo T7200, 1GB, Mobility Radeon 1600 + 512 dedicated DDR), but it's a nightmare!     - IIS 7.0 with Windows Vista and .NET 2003 Hi! I'm sure you all must have gone through this error, Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging on the web server. Can someone help me with this? I've tried everything. I have Windows Vista Business. My first thought was to add my current login user to Debugger Users group, I did that, but to no avail...i tried to add my IP http://192.168.15.101 to my trusted sites, with no luck. I played with VS .NET configuration settings to enable ASP .NET debugging. Even tried it with enabling remote debugging (since i figured maybe it wasnt able to figure out the differnce between local host and 192.168.15.101) I tried resetting my intranet and my internet default settings. I'm using .NET 1.1, so I checked my bindings for both my website as well as the virtual directory inside it. I tried giving the isapi.dll read/ scripts/execute permissions! i tried rebooting! :-P, oh and I tried changing my IP to localhost (127.0.0.1) in IIS, and then my error message changed to this ------ Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging on the web server. You do not have permissions to debug the server. ------- I also tried to change my folder permissions, I added every user I could think of on that folder and gave it full access. I'm out of ideas, and this is driving my crazy! Any help would be appreciated...for some reason I havent enjoyed working with IIS 7, is that just me, or does everyone think that?     - Kerberos, NLB, Windows 2000 AD, Windows 2003 Server I am trying to setup Kerberos to work on an NLB Cluster which consists of two Windows 2003 servers. Our Active Directory is functioning on a Windows 2000 level. I have read that this is possible but all of the instructions that I have been able to find start with set an item in 2003 AD. I can run web applications using ASP.NET against the individual Host Servers but not the NLB Cluster (Virtual Server). I have read numerous articles and tried a redirect workarounds as well as followed instructions given on numerous pages -- nothing seems to provide a complete solution. when i connect to my webserver over http i see the creation of the process
w3wp.exe*32 per user (each taking about 30mb ram).

my app times out after 2 hours of inactivity using session cookies.

but how to i control the timeout / refreshing of the w3wp.exe*32 process ?
... how do i recycle / kill the process when not used ?
