IIS not installing ??
I've upgraded my XPHome laptop to XPPro, and installed
IIS. I've created on virtual directory
called 'baseball', but when I type
http:\\\\localhost\\baseball\\home.htm in IE, it gives me
the 'page not available cannot find server or dns error'

IP address shows in address bar after clicking links instead of domain
Hello,
I am running Windows 2000 Server with Microsoft-IIS/5.0. After registering
my domain name and setting up URL forwarding from my domain name registrar
to my static IP address assigned by my ISP, my IP address appears in the
address bar after a link from my home page is clicked.
When one first goes to my website the user sees just that:
http://www.mywebsite.com/, however, once one of my links from within is
clicked, the IP address precedes the link page,
http://123.456.789.012/link.asp
What I would like displayed instead so that users do not think that they
have been redirected to another site is the domain name before all links:
http://www.mywebsite.com/link.asp
I did a search on Google.com and found that others have encountered the
same thing. A few suggested going to Microsoft's site at the following
link, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-GB;q218180, but
after doing so, the problem persists.
Please let me know what I can do to correct this?

Server Application Unavailable
Hello,
I made a cpp server application, but when I go to
http://mycomputer/serverApp/serverApp.asmx in IE I get
the following error message:
Server Application Unavailable
The web application you are attempting to access on this
web server is currently unavailable. Please hit
the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your
request.
Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause
of this specific request failure can be found in the
application event log of the web server. Please review
this log entry to discover what caused this error to
occur.
Does anybody know what I can do about this. I allready
tried to open the event log, but I can't find it.

Localhost Not working when Offline
I have installed IIS onto a laptop in order to test several database driven websites prior to uploading. When I have an active internet conenction, everything works fine. As soon as I am no longer connected, both http://localhost and http://laptop give me Page Cannot be Displayed errors. I also get a pop-up that states:
"No connection to the internet is currently available. To view Internet content that has been saved on your computer click Work Offline."
If I elect to work offline, it just gives me the message:
"The web page you requested is NOT available offline. To view this page click Connect"
The web pages are set up in vdirs and work perfectly if I have an Internet connection. All the pages ARE on the local computer stored in directories set up using the MMC.

0xC00402C7 problem, SMTP => POP3

My smtp is unable to deliver correct mails to recipients.
In every bad mails i can see the 0xC00402C7 error.
When a mail is sent to my smtp server. the smtp server accept the mail but
it don't transfer to the pop service.
MX records should be ok. There is no authentification. I sent several kind
of MIME format email. I changed relay configuration.

How to access my dynamic-IP-server in a reasonable way?
Hello,
I have a broadband connection to my PC. I'm running Windows XP Pro and
have installed IIS. I want to be able to access the webserver in a
convenient way.
If I had had a static IP I could make a link or forward to this IP
fronwww.myhomepage.com/local or whatever. Unfortunately, my ISP doesn't
give me a static IP, that is, my IP will change about every day (while I
shut-down my computer at night).
If I had had an own domain to dedicate to my web-server, I could have
used one of the "dynamic DNS-services" avaliable. However, I don't want
to devote a domain to my web-server, I just want to be able to reach it
in a reasonable way - maybe from a link on my webpage at
www.myhomepage.com, or as a forward from www.myhomepage.com/local/.
Now the question is - how do I do this? With the "dynamic DNS-services"
I would have some program determining my IP. Something like that sounds
nice (except that I don't want to devote an entire domain to it).
Is there any service where I can install such a program and then always
have a link to my current IP at for example
www.the-service-providers-name.com/myid/? That would solve my problem.
Or are there any other idea how to solve this?

Executing .CMD Files...
I have IIS 5 and I want to make a simple page that lets me run two .CMD
(batch files) that I've placed in a cgi-bin type directory. Under the
virtual directory application settings, I select "Configuration", but what
do I put in "Application Mappings" to execute a .cmd file?

Restricting access to a file in a folder
Hi, I have a web site with a virtual folder named 'reports' which has lot of
dynamically generated PDF files. In the application, depending on the
previlages of the loggedin user, the related PDF files will be listed in the
page. But if the user types the URL of the PDF file
'http://xyz/reports/xyz.PDF' that report will be shown to the user even
though he is not supposed to view the same. Is there a way to restrict this
unauthorised access using some settings in IIS? App. uses Windows integrated
security with IIS 5.0 with ASP.

client machine this php file get locked for about one minute. While I´m
developing I cannot save my changes during this minute.

several servers for Web Hosting
I am writting an online web hosting service, for this I
have 6 web servers (IIS 5.0) and I want to create sites on
them whenever a registered user asks for a new domain.
I use System.DirectoryServices.dll for creating a new site
on a specified server, but I want to have access to this
site from all 6 web servers not only the original server.
I tried to use IISSync script but it is not a good idea
because whenever a customer changes a property of e.g one
of his virtual dorectories, the script should be ran to
syncronize the 6 web servers.
I want to know if there is a solution for this or not.

After installing the Personal Web Server on Windows 2000
Pro, the normal HTML pages open properly. Initially
the .asp files worked fine but suddenly the .asp files

Restart IIS from the command line
Hi,
I want to restart IIS from the command line. I used this batch file:

copy c:\path\MyApp.dll c:\inetpup\wwwroot\scripts

----------------------------------
But the copy commant does not work. (the .dll application is still
working ). How can I restart IIS in command line as same as restarting IIS
from the IIS management? Any help would be appriciated.

Can't add FPSE 2000 to a new web site.
OK, ok, I know this has been a problem since sometime in 2002 but I still
haven't found out how to fix it. I seem to be running v 4.0.2.4426 of
Frontpage Server Extensions on a number of sites on my W2K Server, IIS5.0
web server. I've never had a problem before, and all of a sudden the
Configure Server Extensions option is missing from the context menu, and the
Server Extensions property tab is missing from the sites in question. FPSE
still seems to be functioning on the existing sites, it's only newly created
sites that are having this problem.
I'm wondering if migrating that server to AD, and/or installing the SUS tool
on that server caused these problems.
It's getting really frustrating. I've seen some chatter about creating a new
admin account, thinning out it's group membership and then using this
account to create the new site - but this doesn't work. I saw a reference to
a KB article to fix this - but the ID was invalid.
Does anyone know what caused this problem and how to fix it. Not having FPSE
installed causes problems with Interdev running on my development
workstations.

Application_Restarting 0149 Error
Hello All,
Sometimes, the application is displaying a ASP_0149 Application Restarting
error. Its so random. All the articles based on this issue talks about
AntiVirus Software scanning the global.asa. But unfortunately the system has
no antivirus software installed on it. The only thing noticeable on that
system is that the virtual directories use UNC share pointing to a
fileserver. I was wondering if this would cause a problem. The application
is set to not to cache the ASP files on the server(unfortunately the
application requires it that way). Any ideas on this is much appreciated.

Cannot get to http://localhost
I have installed IIS 5.1 on XP pro, but get "Web Page
Unavailable Offline" when I try to browse
http://localhost when I'm offline (I have a dial-up
internet connection). When I'm online IE treats the
request as a search and displays a results page. I have
verified that IIS admin is running.
The only KB article I can find on this issue is

Server Extensions problem
We have IIS 5.0 on our Window 2000 Server. The default
website have server extensions 4.0 applied. Several other
websites. One of them somehow got server extension 5.0
instaled. Now when we check the extensions on that website
we get the error message: "The server administration
programs and the server extensions on the web server are
not compatible. The program is too old to be used with this
server." It won't let us remove the extensions from this
website either.
I read that this is caused by the extension not being
compatible with the IIS MMC. How did this website get a
different version of the server extensions than the rest?
How can I either remove 5.0 and get 4.0 installed OR make

Problem connecting to asp page
I am running IIS locally on my machine. Everytime I try to
access a page that has a database connection it does not
work. I have the dsn created and checked the connection

Basic and Windows Integrated security issue
I have a folder on our site that we want to secure. The information is not
confidential but we want "unknown" users to have to put a user and pass in
to access teh files in the folder. However if the user is logged on to the
domain we don't want to be prompted.
I removed Anonymous access in IIS and have basic and Windows Integrated
turned on. I removed the IUSR account from the NTFS permissions of the
folder. I created a group and gave it read rights to the folder. In that
group are various users from our domain and a user created on the local web
server. The idea is that we would distribute this local user and pass to
people on the net that would need access to the page.
When I access the web site with the netbios name(http://servername) all
works fine, I (being in the group) can get to the pages with out being
prompted for a log on. Other users without access are prompted, if I put
the local user and pass they get to the pages. However, if I access the
site with the dns domain name. I get prompted for a password. I also get
prompted if I access the site with the ip address. If I type my user
(domain\user) and pass in, then I get access. We would like to bypass the
logon if we are logged into the local network.

Website Publishing Problem
Everytime i publish my website on my 2003 server then
recalculate the server ext, it messes up my website. It
takes the header and the template away. All the data and
hyperlinks stay. I can publish to the server when i do
not have the ext. active and it works fine, problem is i

web controls will not display
I am using Visual Studio.Net Enterprise, WIN XP
Professional and IIS 5.1 on one and the same computer -
For many days I am attempting to display myfile.aspx in
IE6 using IIS 5.1. All files are there, the headers look
as described in books (I got many useless ASP.Net books
and let's not mention the VS.Net Help section). Many
other users have the same problem. What I have not found
are any useful answers (mostly: do not use IIS, serves
you right using that software).
My question is this: Is there any comprehensible
troubleshooting guide for IIS 5.1 configuration settings?
Do you know about any publication that has a list of
problems on one side and checklists on the other? I would
be looking for "web controls do not display in browser".
MS VS.Net is not exactly cheap, and there is not even a
decent manual or setup guide anywhere. One article tells
you "restart IIS using iisreset in the command line"; the
next article asserts "this rarely works".
I would be so grateful for any pointers to a decent guide
to setting up ASP.net in VS.Net v.2002 using IIS 5.1 (The
software is installed and re-installed properly. IIS is
running, authentication limited to remote access, the
program exits with code 0.

cant get IIS Access DB asp pages working on desktop
Can anyone help?
I've got IIS running on my desktop machine which is win
XP Pro. I know its working because the welcome message
popped up telling me its working and to put my files in
itnetpub/wwwroot folder.
So I did that with a DB driven site running asp pages.
I've created the DSN and linked this to my DB but when I
browse the file in IIS I get a message about not finding
the Data Source AND no default driver found.
The really frustrating thing is that I've got the whole
thing working OK on my laptop (which again has XP Pro)
with exactly the same DB driven site, so I know I've got
it right on the laptop. I've tried matching the settings
but that hasn't work.
Some previous help files from Microsoft had mentioned
permission problems i.e. I didn't has permission to read
my own server, however I am logged in with admin rights.
So the whole thing works no problem on my laptop but not
on the desktop.
What's the difference?

Wondering if anyone knows how to track down which site

Purging Log Files
I am sure this question has been brought up in this newsgroup. I have about 100 websites on my IIS5 server on Windows 2000 and the log files consume a lot of disk space. Is there an utility that I can use to purge the logs older than 60 days ? If so please post it on the news group here.

IIS difference between standard & enterprise
hello
I have a flash application that uses custom mime types
that are not working with Macs, I tested it on my own
trial version of windows 2003 Enterprise edition and it
is fine. My hosting company uses 2003 standard version
and this is where its not working, they say it works on
mt trial version as it is enterprise edition but i am not
convinced there is any difference in IIS between the
standard and enterprise.
Can anyone confirm this for me.

Developing webpages question
Hello,
I am doing self-study at home. I have 1 WIN2K Server running AD/DNS. I
have installed IIS 5.0.
I would like to develop using Front Page 2002 as well as another public
domain text editor tailored for webpage development. Is there anything
special I should do on the IIS config? I would also like to develop pages
using FP2k2, ASP, and Java script. Many pages will also be using SQL Server
2000. I'm not trying to do anything complex since I am just starting out.
For SQL, simple things like recording visitors to the site. Also, there
will be a simple part of the site to track financial / stock info such as
company profiles, daily open/close prices. Can anyone recommend good
resources for integrating IIS and SQL?

Hello,
I am new to setting up and administering IIS. I have just installed IIS
v5.0 on Win2K and this will be an Intranet site. How do you configure the
server or network so that clients can connect to the IIS server?
I would like to call site "RPSNET". This is a single server running AD and
DNS. There will be no connection to the Internet from this server so DNS is
strictly internal.

Crash of FP ext on IIS6
Dear all...
On my path to install VS2003 on win2003, I have used the wizard to enable
IIS (asp.net and FP extension)
Now the VS setup block me saying FP extension are missing.
In iis console, I right click the server - All task - configure server and
get the message there are no server on the port.
If I use the tool owsadm.exe to set the port to 8888, this does not change
anything.
In the event viewer, I see faulting module fp5awel.dll in a application
error.
If I restart the machine, I get information that "sharepoint and frontpage
server.... add a problem and needed to close"

Session LCID problem
We are building a website in Frontpage 2002 using a 3rd party web component.
We have loaded IIS onto our XPpro computer so that we can view the site locally using http://localhost/webname.
Static pages view fine but pages with the web component give the following error.

We know a little about Frontpage but are completely green when it comes to Domain Networking, IIS, and permissions and security.
