Here's an odd one I guess,
For some reason, IIS stopped working on my machine W2K Pro, SP4.
I first noticed a problem when I tried to create a new VS2003 Web project
and was told that IIS was not running, so I went to Internet Services
manager
and nothing happened.
I tried a couple of times and still nothing happened.
I then thought to restart the machine, and was then prompted to save the
console settings, one per IIS start try...
After reboot the same situation was in place.
After searching the web for some answer I decided to re-install IIS.
Unfortunately I was not even able to uninstall it.
So I disabled a few services w3scv, IISadmin, rebooted and the uninstall
finally succeeded.
I then tried to install it and somewhere near the end it just got hung.
I believe this is because it's trying to start the w3svc (i.e. probably my
original problem), but hat does not work.
Trying to do it manually i.e. running 'net start w3svc' return an error
like the service cannot be started.
Running IISreset /start also sometimes, depending on what I have tweaked,
comes back saying that the service did not respond in a timely fashion, or
saying that w3svc could not be started.
I am running Norton Internet Security, but I seem to get the same result
whether it's on or off.
One last thing that recently changed is my ISP, (as well as house, etc..)
surely NTL does not cause IIS to not work.
One thing that seem strange to me is that whenever I download my e-mail
using NTL the connection says it's displaying 'local network'. (probably
unrelated).
Anyway any help is appreciated.
